Nebraska Wesleyan becomes the latest school to release their 2020 schedule.

https://nwusports.com/schedule.aspx?path=football

09/05 - @ Westminster (MO)  1pm
09/12 - Augsburg  1 pm
09/19 - Luther  1pm
09/26 - @ Dubuque  1pm
10/03 - BVU  1pm  (Homecoming)
10/10 - BYE
10/17 - @ Simpson  1pm
10/24 - Wartburg  1pm
10/31 - @ Coe  1pm
11/07 - Central  1pm
11/14 - @ Loras  1pm

I believe this leaves BVU, Central, and Loras without their 2020 schedules posted.

Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

Coe has a schedule posted, but it's only the conference games, no non-conference games yet.

Since we really have no news this time of year other than schedule releases, maybe a position coach change or two, and kids announcing on twitter they are committing to a school and then we have to wait until the fall to see if they actually show up to that school, I found myself looking up school endowments.  I use Nacubo stats first, schools not listed on there I just did a simple google search, after that any remaining schools I looked up on college raptor.

Grinnell - ...2,069,953,000
U Iowa  - ...1,578,933,000
Iowa St - ...1,101,709,000
Drake - ..........226,155,000
St Ambrose - 170,073,000
Luther - .........168,780,000
Dubuque - .....160,530,000
Buena Vista - 136,568,000
UNI - ..............129,019,000
Central - ..........79,161,000
Simpson - ........78,610,000
Coe - .................77,900,000
Cornell - ...........76,288,000
Wartburg - .......69,000,000
Morningside - ..46,271,000
Northwestern - 44,170,000
Loras - ..............41,584,000
Graceland - .....37,200,000
Dordt - .............35,700,000
Clarke - ............29,340,000
Grand View - ...25,734,000
Mt Mercy - .......23,600,000
IA Wesleyan - .17,218,000
Upper Iowa - ..17,174,000
Briar Cliff - ......12,600,000
Maharishi U - ...7,987,000
William Penn - .7,640,000
Faith Baptist - ..4,144,960
Emmaus Bible - 1,043,960

With the exception of St Ambrose ranking high, and Loras/Iowa Wesleyan ranking low, you see the D3 schools with larger endowments than the NAIA schools.  Not really sure the reasons behind that.  Also, Mt Mercy (where my oldest child will be next fall) seems to be the only non-bible school (Maharishi, Faith Baptist, Emmaus) to lack a football team.  Waldorf, a for-profit school is the only 4 year school I left off the list...or at least the only one I "think" I left off the list.

Nice work.  I have one question, though, and please excuse my confusion or ignorance regarding this.  If Grinnell has such a huge endowment, why was it/is it in some difficulty in sustaining the football program?  Although it was reinstated, has a new head coach and (presumably) set to go/resume for this season, this is puzzling to me as I recall (and I may be remembering this incorrectly without going way back to all the posts last fall when the program was suspended-it's late and I'm lazy ::) :) at this time of night, uh, I mean early morning ;)) that one of the reasons for the discontinuance (aside from injuries) was a financial component.  Do you have any further info? Just curious. Thanks.

It wasn't financial with the football program.  Grinnell is a selective school with high academic standards.  As has been noted on the D3 boards in many places, you can still have a strong football program at elite academic schools.  Grinnell has strong numbers in other sports and it's not because the other sports athletes are smarter than football players you can find out there.

I had a conversation recently with someone at Grinnell.  There is a side there that argues for Liberal Arts and a downplaying of athletics and another side that wants to push professional programs and use athletics to help promote the school.  He wasn't sure how things will play out.  He did say there are those at Grinnell that think their 2 billion dollar endowment means they are immune to the challenges in the near future and that he was wanting changes.

Grinnell College will finish semester on-line and closing the campus.  Athletics shut down for the semester.

Curious of they will be the first of many, or go this route alone.

One of many, but I think Amherst was technically first. Definitely first among D-III schools.

Thanks, I meant Iowa schools, but of course, I often poorly word my posts!

Not sure its true in all cases but I believe many of the Iowa D3 schools are noticeably older than their Iowa NAIA counterparts.  Examples I know: Briar Cliff started 1936 as a women's college, (co-ed 1966).  Northwestern was J.C. until about 1960 and Dordt started in 1955, I believe.  As far as my Morningside (1894), no excuses, although I read yesterday than Univ of Nebraska Omaha (appx 8,000 enrollment) has just a $57 million endowment.

Also, always been more money in the Eastern half of the state as well as population.

Thanks BLynn. And I believe Grand View was a JC until the 60's as well, which would explain theirs as well. Another story I've heard, and have no idea if it's true is the Loras endowment is low because they would get funds from the archdiocese of Dubuque while St Ambrose has a large endowment because they they didn't get those funds. But again, that might not have any truth to it.

Thanks for the info and clarification reply to my previous post re: Grinnell football program.  Apologies for the delay in this reply.
