Schools only have to play five football games to qualify for the playoffs this year.
Say team A shuts it down and they are 5-0. Teams B, C, and D each go 9-1. Could team A claim to be the conference champ and should get the AQ?

That's completely up to the conference to decide. Hopefully every conference has some clear contingency planning in place for this sort of thing.

Thanks for the information Pat. I hope we don't need to see how to figure out conference champs.

The emotion you see in that photo is one of the things I love about college sports.  For me, you're more invested in following a college team than you are in pro sports.

I agree completely and even more so at the DIII level. As a fan, you are right there with them for the highs and lows.

When I see the reports on the number of athletes testing positive for coronavirus and the articles in the paper today, I am worried. Des Moines Register says Story County Public Health is begging Iowa State not to let fans attend games. Articles on both the UI and ISU possibly not allowing fans. Hoping the Central players are all being smart and taking care of themselves. I have also read about long term effects on lungs after Covid. It could sure have a big impact on stamina even after the illness is gone. Young adults also seem to be the age group with the biggest increase in cases. Too much belief that they are invincible or it will be mild or it is gone. I want to sit in the stands and watch the best chance Central has had in winning the conference and making a big run in post season.

Oh yeah, there is also that revenge on the Spartans to be administered!😂

Hopefully my Spartans, like Nigel Powers, have some anger management issues with the Dutch  ;D

Although most of the DIII schools and conferences (and, of course, the other NCAA divisions) are in the final stages of planning for the return of football this fall (with the exception of those schools such as Bowdoin and the California DII conference that have already canceled their seasons), some of the recent developments such as you mention are certainly of concern.  The AOA and AMA just posted not only the statistics  you mention about the younger age groups testing positive (five states were the leading areas for that and they were all southern states, including Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Georgia) as well as a recent published study that suggests antibodies to the coronavirus only last about 2:-3 months. Granted, the study was extremely small ( less than 50 people) and was from a country that many of our medical professionals would never trust. However, these developments, along with the increasing numbers of football players already back on some campuses that are testing positive for the virus, does raise some concern.

We all know that this situation changes weekly, sometimes almost daily. Yet, while most of us would like to see some sort of season occur, I am realistic enough to understand that something could easily happen during one of the weeks that would being it to an abrupt halt. I continue to pray that won:t happen and that won't happen and that we will get this virus under control and, hopefully, eventually eradicated.

Edited for typos.

At the pace we are going now, a 40% increase in virus cases over just 14 days, things are not looking good for a football season. Even less so for fans in the stands.

That's to be expected with increased testing. The real data point is whether there's a spike in COVID deaths. If that number remains flat, it means the COVID "2nd Wave" is possibly due to better testing data. If the death data point spikes, then we've got a legit "2nd Wave" ... What I'm hearing from coaches and manufacturers in the industry is that it looks more likely. Especially as more and more schools opt for in person, on campus fall instruction.

I hope for football with fans, as we all do, my concern is that because I am one of those rare Dutch fans that cheers a lot, they won't want me in the stands spewing germs with my cheers!  :o :o
