How is basketball moderate risk? Indoors, with plenty of contact between competitors. It would seem to be at least if not more risk than lacrosse, which is played outside.

Good point, hazzben (also your points over on the MIAC board re: the Big Ten). One follow-up...do you know what specific differences there are in some of those local and state guidelines (in your atea)as you mentioned regarding our discussion about that a couple of posts or so previously? To my knowlehde, at keast in our are for Hope and most of the ones provided by the NCAA are all based on national and state medical and sports medicine organizations and all are essentially the same with regard to how practices, meetings, testing, potential quarantine, etc., and the time frame over the progression of the weeks are to be. IMO, I'm nit sure how some of these schools are going to get around that, especially if some players end up testing positive ( as some have done already at Trine, for example, even if in small numbers) what I was referring to. Those athletes would have to be quarantined, just like the regular student body population will have to be as most colleges have already made plans for with regard to dorms, other buildings and even motels to place those people in. That us where the local and state regulations come in, also not to forget about mentioning the requirements for cafeteria and food services. Just curious as to what you know is different in your area.

I can see this easily "blowing up" for those schools who are going to try and play a few games this fall. I could be wrong, but I see it  very easily being shut down about a month or so once those potential games start, which brings us back to your initial point above in the previous post.🙂

Outside the Crate

With the NAIA offering immediate membership for any school that moves over, I wonder if the ARC ever contemplated a move back to the NAIA.

I can see a couple colleges that might think about a move to NAIA, but it's highly unlikely.  There's no way Wartburg, Luther, Central or Loras would give a move any consideration.

Outside the Crate

Hmmm.  New basketball scoreboards going into Levick Arena at Wartburg.  I hope we have a season!

I'd like to think that a few extra months to plan and figure things out would allow them to have a greater chance of establishing criteria and procedures. But watching the cluster that is the B1G (and Warren) right now, I don't have much confidence in people getting it figured out.

Outside of places that are just full steam ahead, regardless of safety procedures, protocols, etc. There are definitely some areas that seem like they are just gonna play regardless.

Simpson becomes the next ARC school to announce tuition-free fifth year.

https://simpson.edu/news/simpson-college-offers-tuition-free-fifth-year-all-current-students

Sounds like it is designed to keep kids from taking a gap year.  And keeps them in the dorms...a revenue generator.

All undergraduate students enrolled full-time for both the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters are eligible for the Fifth-Year Tuition-Free Guarantee. The guarantee can begin to be applied in fall 2021 for students that meet the following criteria:

Student has completed eight semesters of undergraduate education at Simpson College (12 or more credits successfully completed per semester) or completed at least two semesters at Simpson and six semesters from another institution(s) that successfully transferred to Simpson (for a total of eight full-time semesters).

Student is continuously enrolled at Simpson with no breaks in their full-time enrollment from the semester in which they first matriculated to the College.

Student is in good academic standing as defined by the Simpson College academic success guidelines.

Students in 3+2 programs are not eligible.

Coursework within the fifth year is restricted to undergraduate degree completion. By its nature, Continuning and Graduate education coursework is excluded.

Students may not use the fifth year to pursue study abroad.

Students must complete and submit a FAFSA by March 1.

Students must live on campus during the fifth year.

I got mixed up a while back (see signature below). What other school in the ARC also offered free tuition as you described? Do you know of any other schools in ANY conference doing the same thing?
Interesting concept. As you said, keeps them in the dorms and gives them the opportunity to play, what may be their last year, football/sports.
As an aside, I always read your posts. You seem to know what's going on! I, on the other hand, live in a closet in Alliance, Ohio.
Stay well and stay safe. In my signature, I say "Go Everybody". With all that's going on, I'll say, "Go Somebody" or even, "Go Anybody". 🏈 🎓 🍺 😷

MUC57:

I think I recall seeing that Albion is doing similar, although only for this year's current incoming freshman students and that process only because some anonymous wealthy alum or organization provided the gift. It is for this year only as I thought I saw. Admittedly, I did not recheck on this right now.

Excellent -- Matt Jeter mentioned that was in the works when we talked with him, and we also talked about Wartburg having offered the same in our most recent podcast:

Pacific Lutheran and St. Norbert are offering a tuition-free semester provided it is used in pursuit of undergraduate goals (think it basically means you can't use it for grad school). In any case, it's a significant move for a private school as pertains to football. With non-state-subsidized tuitions, I think most kids are 4 and out at a private school, with very minimal greyshirt usage. Some state schools put their guys on a 5-year plan from the start.

Good info. Thanks. I'll add it to the other bits and pieces floating around these boards.
Stay safe and stay well!
Maybe when all this goes away, we can have some more Mount Union/Whitewater games. We had some good ones in the past. Go Warhawks! Go Purple Raiders! 🏈 🍺 😷
