Yes the BV Simpson game was called a scrimmage although it was probably 2.5 hours the kids got to scrimmage and do some small group stuff at the beginning.  BV said it was too dangerous to have football games this spring so the other teams they play will also be scrimmages as well. I believe combo of worried about Covid and numbers on rosters.  https://bvuathletics.com/news/2021/3/13/bvu-football-modifies-spring-2021-competition-to-conference-scrimmages.aspx

They weren't keeping score but Simpson won handily 😉 (my son plays there ☺️)

Welcome to the board!

I guess I question how much of a difference there is between a scrimmage and a game.  If you are allowing fans in the stands, both teams are participating, coaching staffs are there, it would seem you are just as exposed to potential covid infections no matter if it is a scrimmage or game.  If it's more a case of low numbers of football players on the BVU roster in the spring semester and wanting to limit their exposure to injuries, that might make more sense to me.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

My son said he was told at practice low #'s although they looked to have plenty.  But article also says mentions Covid safety as another issue so who knows.  They had no limit on spectators, didn't enforce any of the spectator rules they listed so who knows 🤷‍♀️  I just hate only getting 3 games which we would have done 5 and now they lose a game so only have 2.  Especially when the 7-12 school teams
Blocks away have played all year!  But it is what it is.   I haven't heard our spectator rules yet we only have one home game and not till the 10th.  They are heavily restricting soccer spectators  which also plays in the stadium but no limits on softball baseball 🤔. How does that make sense... Campus is going weeks without a positive and often it'll been staff I believe. A good portion of campus is tested regularly the football team
Tests weekly.  The athletes even gets to shove the stick up his own nose since they go every week!  The kids have basically been in a medium security prison all year 🥲

Not very tech savvy so just adding another post lol.  Even had refs at the game and the live stream showed a score although it wasn't correct.

After the game we didn't know if parents were allowed on the field but we all basically said we are going in.  No one said a word.

I guess for our home soccer games parents are told they aren't allowed to and if they want to they have to meet by the gate.  So spreading out on a giant field bad...all meeting my entrance gate good?  This world has gone mad 🤦‍♀️  Football parents are intense so I'm guessing we will just go on the field for the only home game anyway! Haven't heard yet on spectator # limits but I have a bunch that want to watch his only local game 😬

Halftime scores...
Central 28-0 over Simpson
Luther 14-14 Loras  Loras jumped to a quick 14-0 lead and I thought we were headed for a blowout.  Luther answered with 2 TD's of their own, and doinked a FG attempt off the crossbar at the end of the half that would have given the Norse the lead.

Central looked incredibly strong against Simpson. Subs were in during a good portion of the second quarter and the whole 4th quarter. I can't remember if the subs came in during the third, but my guess is yes. Central had a lot of new young players who really looked good. The first string offense and defense were phenomenal. Makes me so sad that they did not get to play if the fall. This team has so much potential. Then again, were we that good or Simpson that far down? I don't know. The seniors looked as I expected them to look, wow! The freshmen and/or sophomores getting their first chance to show what they could do? WOW! No, they did not outplay the likes of Hawkins or Durbala, but the leading receiver and leading tackler were both freshmen. Got to love that! Yes Knaack may have had the toughest defenders or double coverage, but the freshmen showed up.

Rivalry week Loras vs Dubuque: who do you got?

The last 3 Key City Clash games have been single digit victories for the Spartans.  The Duhawks have looked strong in their first two games of the season.  Dubuque overcame miscues against Coe to gut out a win in their only game this spring.

I think we are in for another hard fought game that will be in doubt deep into the 4th quarter.  In the end, Dubuque gets their 10th straight victory over Loras.

The UD @ Loras football game has been cancelled due to health and safety protocols.

The soccer games on Wednesday are still on, but there will be no general admission. Spectators will only be allowed in for the respective game that they are on the pass list for and bleachers will be cleared between games.

This is depressing.  I was really looking forward to this game.

I know how you feel Doolittle. We got to play Simpson, yes, but Wartburg is the team I was looking forward to playing this year. Men's basketball only had 7 games including 2 in the conference tournament, softball has only had 7 so far. Hopefully with everyone over 16 eligible for the vaccine next fall will be a different story.

Congratulations to Central's Blade Durbala for making the D3 team of the week! Congratulations also to Durbala, Hawkins and Sunvold for sweeping the conference players of the week in Football. Sunvold is one of the freshmen making the most of his opportunity going 5-5 on extra points and 3 kickoffs going for touchbacks. He did miss a FG, but not a bad start.

Here is a really good read on a former Central College football player from Coach Schipper's era:

If these spring games count.  Will they show up as 2020 games, or will there be spring 2021 and fall 2021 in the record books?  Just curious.
