1st week of conference play

09/18/2021

Neb Wes @ Central  1pm
Simpson @ Coe  1pm
BVU @ Loras  1pm
Dubuque @ Loras  1pm

Wartburg spends the week stewing over that Gustavus loss
Loras kicks off the conference at home against BV and UD. Are they splitting their 58 point average between the two opponents? ;)

UD goes to Decorah.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Oops...let me try that again  ;D

Dubuque @ Luther  1pm
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

So Loras gets the full 58 points laid on them. What will they score in response?

Looking forward to 2 great QBs going at it in Pella on Saturday. I was looking at NCAA stats for Blaine Hawkins only found them for NWU and BV's quarterbacks. I know the St Olaf game wasn't the norm, but would have thought his less than a half game stats would have put him back in the top 50. Can't figure it out.

I see Central, Coe, Loras and Dubuque winning this weekend.

While NWU matches the 2-0 record of Central, I see a Dutch home victory
I'm wondering if Simpson is looking at a 2014 type season (recent conference success and then went 0-7 in conference play that year) A 2-0 Coe with the home victory Saturday.
Recent history would suggest a Duhawk victory.  But this BVU offense has me curious.  I'm still predicting a Loras victory.
Being a Spartan fan. I can see no possibility other than a Dubuque victory over Luther in Decorah this weekend.  But I have been known to be wrong in the past  ;)

I can't figure out BV either. Wartburg couldn't score against the Gussies that easily. Might have me a little nervous when the time to play BV comes. I don't doubt Central's ability to score against them though.

Schipper Strong

Central 30-7 at half. Central primarily running the ball to keep the clock moving. NWU passing out of necessity.

Central grounds it out the second half for a 37-7 win. Neither QB living up to their stats today in passing. We were not playing our normal offensive game I think due to the heat. We were running down the clock instead of our quick snap offense and really kept the ball on the ground which seemed to take Hawkins out of his normal efficiency when he did throw. Central had one TD called back, fumbled at the one and let the clock run out at the two yard line, holding down the second half scoring.

Final scores...
Coe 42-22 over Simpson
Loras 55-34 over BVU
Dubuque 28-2 over Luther
Central 37-7 over NWU

It is officially Simpson week. Unfortunately I can't think of much to say about it. The rivalry was never as big as Central vs Wm Penn back in the day. Plus they have 0 fans on the board. So go Dutch!

This is one of the few weeks where all the games pretty much played out the way I thought they would.
Coe handled Simpson
BVU scored some points, but Loras put up 50+ on the BVU defense
Dubuque takes care of business at Luther
Central does the same over NWU.

Should be fun to see how the season plays out.

Yeah, we had our own little family over there.  This is like I'm suddenly at the kids table at my in-laws with a bunch of people I kind of know, but not really.  The Midwest Conference if the only family member over here and they're the quiet cousin that doesn't talk much.  ;)

Not that many of us are talking anymore either.

Central only has to score 15 more point than against Kalamazoo to prove we can play with UMHB. Oh and this little matter of holding them to 6 points. Go Dutch!

Central football fun facts:
Central returned all 22 starters, not all of them start.
Central has 15 5th year seniors
Blaine Hawkins has the 5th highest pass completion percentage
Best broken play: snap well over the freshman QB head for a 53 yd TD.
In 3 games we have had a different leading receiver for each game.
Central has the highest total offensive average in school history.

What happened to the Central mantra that only 3 things can happen when you throw the ball and 2 of them are bad?  ;D
