Games this weekend...

Central @ Coe  1pm
Dubuque @ NWU  1pm
Luther @ Simpson  1pm
Loras @ Wartburg  1:30pm  Homecoming

On paper, Central keeps rolling along.  Coe lost to Wartburg, and Central beat Wartburg.  This takes me back to 2016 when Iowa beat Rutgers 14-7, Michigan beat Rutgers 78-0, and then Iowa beat Michigan 14-13.  This is a reminder to Central and Coe this is why you play the game, you never know how it will turn out.  All that said, I think the Dutch win on Saturday.  ;)

Dubuque offense is still a work in progress, but they are putting the pieces together.  Dubuque defense looks strong.  I don't think NWU has the horses against the Spartans...Dubuque win.

Luther @ Simpson...I'll take the home team.  But would not be surprised to see a Luther victory.

Loras struggled to get a homecoming win against Simpson...Wartburg rolls to an easy homecoming victory in Waverly.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

Central comes off a long awaited win against Wartburg that left no question as to who was the better team and climbed in the polls. Perfect setup for the upset, but Central still looking to convince the rest of DIII they can play with the big boys. This team is focused, Central with a convincing win.

Dubuque at NWU could be an interesting match up. I haven't seen UD play, but respect DD's opinion on their defense. They are going to need it. NWU has a good QB and some speed in receivers that can break you if you blink at the wrong time. They also held Central's Hugh scoring offense to 20 points below average. It could be a lower scoring game if defense rules and NWU plays at home. I could see this going either way. I give UD the win, but wouldn't be surprised if the home team pulls it out.

Luther vs Simpson for cellar dwellers. Simpson wins cellar dweller and loses the game. They were home team against Central and yeah, Luther wins.

Wartburg is fighting for their reputation now and hopes that UD or anyone can give them a shot at a conference tie. Loras has the better record, but it is homecoming for Wartburg and they need a win to stop the bleed. Wartburg gets it.

In today's episode of Schipper Strong and DD talk to themselves, here is my portion.  :)

Can't make it to the game tomorrow as I work 7P to 7A. I will set my alarm to wake up for the game and cheer you on from home. Keep on setting those records out of sight! Set the bar for the teams that follow you. Luck helpful, skill rules! Go Dutch!

;D ;D ;D

I'll miss watching the majority of the UD game because Mrs. Doolittle bought us James Bond tickets for 11:45.  That's ok, though, we are also Bond fans and this way I won't get too worked up pregame hoping for a good outcome for my team!

Fannosaurus Rex

At least going to the new James Bond movie is a better excuse for missing a game than those silly people who schedule weddings or surgical procedures or other wastes of time during Saturdays in fall. I look forward to a review. Of course even if you tell me it is the worst movie ever, I will still see it.

Central 41-7 at the half. Central took the ball first and move down the field for a TD with far more plays than usual. Then Coe gets the ball and scores in 2 plays. What??? All Central for most of the half. Nice 4th and 12 and 4th and 9 first downs where punting was not a consideration. Hawkins adds 6 TD passes to his impressive resume.

Central wins 55-21. Hawkins with 503 yards passing, 6 passing TDS and one rushing TD. I know you don't want to run up scores, but really frustrating to watch the subs get playing time to only run the same running play on every down. 15 5th yr seniors are graduating plus some 4th year seniors who may opt to go out on top. Let the second team learn something, we need them experienced next year. There was a definite hole where Noah Treimer should have been playing. Glad his surgery went well and hoping for a successful recovery. Coe did a nice job preventing Sunvold from getting 100% on PATs with a block.

So Luther also plays defense optional football. It will be ugly when Central arrives in Decorah. UD was taking care of business and Wartburg was hammering Loras. Next week is the bye for Central. Good job Dutch!

Mrs Doolittle rolled her eyes at Fannosaurus Rex...she is still a little upset...20+ years after the fact, that I insisted on a spring wedding over a fall wedding  ;D

I'm still watching the 1st half of the UD game now (too nervous to watch the Iowa game).  From that 31-14 victory for Dubuque, the Spartans started a freshman QB in place of their injured starter and were still able to put up 31 points on the road.  Of the 14 points the Spartan defense gave up they were all in the 4th quarter when the game was in hand.  Impressive victory for Dubuque.  Maybe not as eye popping at the Central, Simpson, and Wartburg scores, but this UD team is quietly putting a strong season together.

I agree that UD is putting together a nice season. I didn't do a preseason guess, but I would have put UD as a 2nd place finisher to Central. The fact that UD not just won at Central 2 years ago, but obliterated what Central was capable of on offense is still in my head. This is a much better team and I trust in Central's coaches and players to have an answer this year when the time comes. UD is the best team left on our schedule.

Outside the Crate

Wartburg mauled Loras.  I was surprised by how lop-sided this turned out to be...  Loras got some points after Wartburg liberally substituted, but the second half was boring, boring.  Huge crowd for Homecoming.  JoJo McNair was back and he again proved he's one of the few most athletic players in D3.  His return of a kick-off for 100 yards, running through and around several Loras defenders, should be named play of the week in D3.

James Bond, British government can't pay insurance and legal fees associated with the double-0 program and force James into a quiet retirement in the suburbs with his family while working as a local insurance agent.  Wait, that was the plot of The Incredibles.

James Bond, action packed, car chases, explosions, women, martinis, surprise plot twist...that is all I will say.

2021 season, rolling along fast, hard to believe we are half way through the season already.  Anxious to see how it all plays out over the next few weeks.

Congratulations to Central on cracking the top 10! You deserve it guys. Keep playing your game.
