Congratulations to Central's Reid Pakkebier and Ryan Neu for making the D3 team of the week! Both were also selected as defensive and offensive player of the week for the ARC. Pakkebier was making his  first collegiate start snd Neu his second start. Way to go men!

I know it was five days ago but I feel like sharing something that happened in the Central St. Olaf game that most non-Dutch ARC fans probably didn't see.  One of the times St. Olaf kicked-off, the kicker got the ball teed up, came running up, swung his foot, and the ball fell off of the tee. It would have been a little like when Lucy holds the ball for Charlie Brown except the kicker still managed to give the ball a mighty kick and sent it skidding down the field. The Central return guy came up to field it and, out of no where, it took about a fifteen foot high bounce over his head and bounced on down inside the five where a Central guy finally covered it. I was thinking that was some lousy luck for my Dutch except that, I don't know what the rule is, but it turned out to be do-over and Central ended up in a much better place.  You never want to think you've seen it all right.

Yeah, that was a call I had not seen before, but sure did appreciate it. It was something else the way it just took that bounce out of nowhere. I've never seen anything like it.

I fear my Spartans will have their hands full Saturday night.  I will be at the Hope-Coe game cheering on the IIAC (I'm "old school") Kohawks.  I watched Hope defeat a good Aurora team in the last 30 seconds last Saturday 38-34, so I'm looking forward to another close game.

Go Blue.

Have fun cheering on Coe today. Something new for us this year as we get to tailgate with friends of ours from our home town who now have a child at UD.  The more the merrier.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

Central up 21-7 at the half. We fumbled a punt catch or it probably would have been 28-0 Central. Ketchum adds 3 more TD passes, only 56 more to tie Hawkins' record.

2:45 and the parking lot is almost full with tailgaters for the 6pm kickoff.
And the UD marching band will debut tonight.

Central wins 31-13. Lots of penalties against us the 2nd half. Another thing to work on before conference play. Rain really played a factor the second half.

It's early and hope springs eternal. I'm hoping a game against Nebraska Wesleyan is what UD needs to get their offense clicking. The Spartan defense looks solid. Game day atmosphere, even with all the rain in Dubuque was fun to see. On to the conference portion of the season.

Careful now Doo. My Plainsmen, err Prairie Wolves, just lost by only 7 in OT to NAIA powerhouse Mayville (ND) State!  ;D  ::)
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Don't surround yourself with yourself. 🧍🏼‍♂️(Yes)

Congratulations to Cameron Bannister for making the D3 team of the week! Congratulations also to Cameron Bannister and Brady Ketchum being the defensive and Offensive players of the week in the ARC.

Congratulations to Caroline McMartin on her Cross Country runner of the week honors. Sorry your dad doesn't get to see you run more often. I know Coach McMartin is bursting with pride!

I am excited for ARC play to get underway and look forward to more teams being more competitive.

Congratulations to Loras on a big win today. You came to play and have an excellent QB. It will be interesting to see how the rest of your season goes. I was a little concerned going into the game today after seeing the QB stats and it was well justified. Your QB was the best I have seen since last year. Central has to regroup and they will. You don't graduate as many good players as we did without a bit of rebuilding. On to what comes next. Go Dutch.

Now that I've finished watching UD win 48-34 at NWU, I will put the Central/Loras game on for the final half of the 4th quarter. It sounds like it was quite the game.

Or maybe I won't. Can't seem to find the game on the Central website.

Outside the Crate

Stunning thumping of Luther today by Wartburg, 62-0.  It was 55-0 at half-time.  26 first downs vs 4.  Over 500 yards vs 35.  That's 7 points scored against the Knights in three games, and the two previous wins have come against teams that have gone on to some sizable wins.  I'm getting optimistic.
