Doolittle, while the game is going on you should find it at either centraldutchnetwork.com or go to the athletics website find the football schedule and click on video for the game as long as we are home team. It was an exciting 4th quarter, more for them than us.  ;)

Actually looking at the stats we had more passing yards, but Ketchum was sacked 6 times and England only once. We just couldn't get to him. He scrambles well, but we replaced a lot on our O-line. In a loss it is easy to be down, but Ryan Neu had another great game receiving and Austin Burns had a beautiful 65 yard punt. Reid Pakkebier had another great game on defense. The Loras QB looked really good, but Brady Ketchum had an outstanding game by most measures, just not sacks. He added 4 more TD passes and 369 yards passing. We need to clean up penalties as we shot ourselves in the foot a few ties. We have a week off which I would rather not have after a loss, but we can work on some things and come out better.

Stunning thumping of Luther today by Wartburg, 62-0.  It was 55-0 at half-time.  26 first downs vs 4.  Over 500 yards vs 35.  That's 7 points scored against the Knights in three games, and the two previous wins have come against teams that have gone on to some sizable wins.  I'm getting optimistic.
It is an impressive win, but I dare say Luther will not be going on to post some sizable wins. Central is tied with Luther for cellar dweller at the moment, so that should give you some optimism.  ;)

Yeah, I was hoping to see the archived broadcast after it had ended. Most schools have that feature but maybe not Central.

Dubuque was able to put up 48 points and win by 14 today despite 14 penalties for 140 yards. That needs to get cleaned up.

We do with everything except football.

Replying to Pat's comment about the FG at the end of the game:  Yes Central called a last second timeout after the ball was snapped. The kick was blocked and we gave them the second chance.

I have been thinking about it and decided Central beat Loras. I've heard that's how things work now.  ;D ;D ;D

Yes, and one of my old faculty colleagues who is a Luther alumnus wrote, "Fraud.  The game was stolen.  Everyone knows that Luther won the game!"  By the way, if y'all haven't noticed, there's a nice article about Wartburg on this website this week.

Wartburg wins 25-0.
Knights have a strong D. Their running back is a hard runner. Solid team.
As Mrs Doolittle and I got to the ticket booth the punk looked at us and said "So one senior and one adult" I would have been mad but realized that got me a 3 dollar discount.  :)

And you just became an honorary Dutchman! ;D

I watched the first half of the Wartburg-UD game and it was a much lower scoring game than I expected. I didn't expect Wartburg to have the scoring free for all they had against Luther, but was impressed with the Spartans on defense. The second quarter Wartburg seemed to have worn UD down and I thought it would get ugly the second half. I switched to SJU and Bethel. That was an amazing game. Thought it might come down to who had the ball last as I correctly feared Central-Loras would. Bethel gave SJU all they could handle last year too. I think ratings kind of take a back seat in conference games where the opponents know each other so well. I was surprised when I looked back and saw the Knights only scored 7 in the second half. Was it a slug fest or did Wartburg substitute a lot?

Was surprised by the BV-Luther score. Which team does that say more about?

So glad the bye week is over.

Hard for me to say as my father-in-law was talking to me about everything but the game in front of us!

It was a weird game in that it seemed like Wartburg started almost every drive within 10 yards either way of the 50 yard line.  The 2nd half seemed like Wartburg would pin UD deep with a punt and then the Spartans would then punt it right back to the Knights with them setting up again on either 45 yard line.  If UD would put together some sort of drive Wartburg would then pick off a pass and return it to around the 50 yard line and here we go again.  As far as Wartburg only getting 7 points after the break it may have been equal parts that UD does have a strong defense and possibly Wartburg may have gone a little experimental with their offense in the 2nd half with confidence their D wouldn't let the Spartan offense on the board.  It looked to me that Wartburg had their offensive starters in deep into the game.  But as i said, my father-in-law was a bit distracting.  I did get to hear about the talk shows he listens to on WHO though, and then that night we got to hear my daughter sing in the Dubuque Chorale Songfest.  So I had that going for me  ;)

UD's defense, I thought, was pretty impressive.  Two important statistics:  First, Wartburg scored a record of five intercepted passes.  Second, Wartburg has held their opponents scoreless for 3 straight games and 13 quarters.  That's 148-7 for the season thus far.
