Wartburg definitely seems like the team to beat. Central wii bounce back, but there is no denying how much talent we graduated last year. I knew that was our year to make our best run. I had posted earlier in the preseason about watching a Central team scrimmage and said it was likely just freshman as I saw nothing and nobody that looked familiar. I removed the post when I found out it was full team scrimmage!

I did notice Wartburg was always starting in favorable field position and UD backed up near the goal line. Looks like UD shot themselves in the foot with a lot of penalties too. I also noticed the interceptions OTC talked about. Both defenses were impressive I thought. Punting favored the Knights. Looking forward to Central getting back on the field. They have a lot to clean up, hopefully they will get that done with two weeks to work on it.

I don't believe I have seen a review of the new UD marching band yet.  What's the deal?

About the same size as the BVU marching band in their first year a few years back...small. My sons high school marching band marches better, but maybe that's because these college kids are so busy with their studies they don't have time to work on their routine  ;)

To this old guy though, it sounded good to hear a marching band playing at the game. And they stayed in the stands and played during the 2nd half which I am used to seeing bands pack up and leave after the halftime performance.

Fun fact...Wartburg has not given up a point on a Saturday this year.  Only points scored were in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

Qualifies as both fun and a fact! Very cool!

I vote Central moves homecoming to Sunday.  :)

Well, Schipper, Central is a church college; pray for lightening!

As for the BV marching band, there wasn't a lot of marching but for a new and small group they played very well.  Frankly, I was surprised.  UD is not known as a "music school" like Simpson, Luther or Wartburg, so I was doubly impressed by the sound.  They looked good, too, which suggests the President wanted a marching band and was willing to pay for it.  It probably costs $ 300K to start a marching band (uniforms, instruments, faculty).

Fannosaurus Rex

I haven't seen the marching band  but I will still say that they are worth every penny UD spent on them.

OTC, God and I have been known to have short conversations during a game, but I won't pray for lightening. The end of the Wheaton game? Oh yeah!

Time for the Dutch to work out a little frustration tomorrow against NWU. Two effective quarterbacks could be a big day for the offenses. Will be interested in the Wartburg-Loras game. Loras caught us early in the season with a lot of newer players. I think Wartburg is more seasoned.

I don't know who else is playing who tomorrow. Miss the pickems. Can't we do that again even if nobody is tracking it? I miss Doolittle's take on the games.

Wartburg wins 42-3 over Loras. Takeaway? Wartburg is dang good, but can be scored on even on a Saturday.

Central wins 58-0 at NWU. Didn't expect the shutout. Our first in 6 years. Yeah, I know all about Wartburg's defense this year. How does Wartburg prepare for an anything goes Central offense? We played 3 QB's in the first half. Brady Ketchum was pulled after a couple of bad decisions. I get it, but hot be fair, he is a passing QB and they wanted to establish a running game. Keep the ball out of the 8th leading passing offense. Again I get it, but with Ketchum we were 13th and they didn't let him do his thing, then they do in when we need it and something bad happens. We took away his mojo. Next we use freshman Keegan Glover. Terrific running QB, but we don't have faith in letting him pass so alternate in Ketchum when we need to throw. Glover racks up big rushing yardage, but you know what is going to happen by the QB. Enter Cooper Downs in the second quarter who had limited time playing and threw an interception in his very limited time prior to today. Third Quarter they let Downs start and low and behold he is the first to break a Blaine Hawkins' record with 5 TD passes in a quarter! 291 yards passing that quarter. Thanks St Johns! 4th qtr we use our 4th QB and he does a good job too, even though offense was shutting it down.

Dubuque beats BVU 46-16. Props to the two BVU students calling the game. I thought they did well. The BVU video also looked great. And a shoutout to the BVU marching band. Have grown in numbers since the last time I saw them and they looked and sounded great.

Happy to see my Spartans go 3 QB's deep and get a 30 point road win.
