It's interesting that all six of the reporters on this website picked Wartburg to win the game and a few of them think the margin will be significant (well, I guess one point is significant in this game).  I'll be there, so GO KNIGHTS!  My view is that defense, in the end, wins championships, and Wartburg's defense is quite good (understatement).
I noticed that too, though some picked it as a close game. I would say last year that offense won the ARC championship. Conference opponents know each other so well that sometimes you can throw out expectations. St Johns and Bethel for example or Loras and Central for that matter. Wartburg has the stats on their side this year and a powerful revenge motivation. Central is already in playoff mode as one more loss and they turn in their equipment after the last game. I honestly don't know what to expect. What the heck 28-27 Central. This time the coach doesn't call timeout and the extra point gets blocked.

Haven't posted much since the pandemic; just reading & doing the poll thing. (Thought I'd try to help DD & SS keeping the board active). Got my workout in & will relax a little before heading to Tulip town. I am anxious to see how the Knight D does against a better O than they faced so far. I would love to see the game land closer to Frank's or Logan's take, but any of the scores from the D3 crew would be fine by me. Weather shouldn't be a factor, although this time of year & clear skies, sun may cause a bobble or two. GO KNIGHTS!

Knights fans are pretty excited for the opportunity today and while I don't want to predict a final score...I will say that from a fans perspective I think if the Knights can limit the Dutch to 10 or less points, it's going to be a great day for the orange and black.  10-24 points and the Knights should be in for a win, and 24+ points it's gonna be a dogfight.  Whatever way it shakes out today, every time the Knights and Dutch clash it's fun to watch.

Thanks for the assist Wartknight. Free admission to all sports again this year unless it is playoffs. Come on down, cheer softly.

Wow! In what I consider a blunder of epic proportions Central blocks off two rows of parking for the tailgate picnic. That may be nice, but parking is at a premium for every football game and this is homecoming plus Wartburg will bring a crowd. Sorry fans, no parking available today! I've got my spot though! It pays to be early!

Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

Halftime Wartburg 10-0. Their defense is doing what it does and apparently we are Keeping Cooper in at QB no matter what because their defense is doing their thing. We have to go with our best. Me, I would give Keegan Glover a chance. I would give Ketchum a chance, he is still the most experienced. Cooper had one amazing quarter last week. Maybe set him out a series to see what the D is doing. I need my 28 points!

Dubuque up 35-0 over the Storm after 1 quarter. UD defense with 2 pick 6's. UD offense with two 1 play drives.

Dubuque up 45-7 at the half over Simpson. Back up QB was in for UD early 2nd quarter.

Dubuque wins 66-14. And UD was inside the Storm 5 at the end. The Spartans went 5 deep at QB and 6 deep at RB. Was fun to see for this Spartan fan.

I suppose it is too late to ask for 36 pts? I just need you to find me 8 more points!  ;D ;D ;D

While I did predict Central would score 28, Wartburg blew it with an extra TD and that 2 pt conversion. It was a good prediction and admittedly made with bias for my Dutch. I went to the game hoping for a win, but knew the odds were stacked against us. I give Wartburg credit their defense lived up to their billing in the first half. My sister wasn't able to join me at the game until halftime because of a family obligation. She did not check the score before coming down to the field. The quote of the day goes to the student who took her down to the field on a golf cart from where she was dropped off. My sister asked how the game was going. The student responded "the wait line at the women's restroom exceeds Central's yardage."   :D :D :D

As a fan it was a frustrating first half. I have to give credit to the Dutch defense for being on the field in poor starting field position most of the half, much like the UD team did against Wartburg. Keeping the first half score low let us hang around. Credit to Cooper Downs for getting Central the first two touchdowns scored on a Saturday against Wartburg. Credit to special teams for recovering the onside kick and to Brady Ketchum for the hurry up offense and last two TDs for the Dutch. We didn't win, but we hit MediaGuy's dogfight status. And Keegan Glover got a nice completion for not being a passing QB. A loss, but a lot to be happy with we gave them a playoff level game. We are going to be kicking ourselves the rest of the season for Loras, but I still say they played well against us. Good luck to Wartburg the rest of the way. I agree with our radio guys, Trevor and George: Wartburg probably won't have anyone else score 28 against them the rest of the regular season and Central probably won't have anyone else hold us to 28 the rest of the season.

I bet that was fun to see. I remember your dedication following UD year in and year out before things turned around for UD. You were in the wrong side of those scores and stayed loyal and active on the board. I always admired you and a couple of the other Spartan faithful for that. It's fun to see what the younger players bring to the team in those games isn't it? I am so impressed with the freshman class that came in this year. If you check out Central's webpage there is a video of one of our freshmen receivers that scored a 49 yard TD against Wartburg's stingy defense. Good things lie ahead.

I've been off this board and for quite some time. I hear there was some sort of football contest in Pella today?
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

So I hear. One team scored 14x the average the other had been giving up. The underdog actually led for about 10 seconds in the 4th quarter. Great game by both teams.

I think Wartburg learned a few things in Pella yesterday...
1. Even a great defense gets tired, and the offense needs to be more consistent to possess the ball and take some time off the clock.  Thats what happened in the first half, but not in the second half.
2. The offense needs to take advantage of opportunities and make every possession count. The last possession of the half could have been a real turning point.  Got a big turnover and couldn't convert it.  That is a whole different game if the score is 17-0 at half instead of 10-0.
3. Wartburg needs to put teams away when they get a chance.  2 separate times in the game, Wartburg had the crowd sitting on their hands and let the crowd back into the game.  End of the first half (see above) and mid 4th quarter when we went up 28-14.  Wartburg pushed Central close to their breaking point and then let up, and we won't be able to get away with that in November.
4. Wartburg needs to clean up penalties in big games, took some bad flags at crucial times yesterday.

All things considered, good win for Wartburg and can't wait to finally get Central at home next year, I think that game is closer to 28-10 if played in Waverly with a limited travel roster on the sideline and a hostile crowd in the stands.
