I hope the marching band does something special for homecoming.

Serenading is old guys in the parking lot right now.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

Best Iowa/American Rivers conference half-time show I've seen in fifty years.

I take that back.  Central had a really good marching band for 3 or 4 years in the early 80's.

My old fraternity might be running out of powder for their canon. UD up 48-7 3rd quarter. Old people (me) are enjoying the afternoon.

68-7 final score. UD over Luther.
Fun score for a homecoming game. 79 degrees with a slight breeze was also welcome.

Central wins today 49-17. We racked up 680 yards of offense for no more points than we scored. We let Simpson have the ball way too long on almost every drive and had 12 penalties again today 4 of which gave Simpson first downs and one cost us a TD. I was really frustrated with the inability of the defense to get stops, but I might need to go easy as we have a new defensive coordinator this year and a number of injuries that may be putting younger players into the lineup. Every game since Loras we have played 3-4 quarterbacks. All of them perform well, but with the exception of one quarter at NWU they are all performing at about the same level. Nice that they all get playing time, but I kind of feel like Ketchum is being punished for the Loras loss. I didn't walk away feeling like he was to blame. With the defense being rather porous and both sides committing a lot of penalties maybe it is a good year to be in the outside looking in at playoffs. Right now I'm not even sure how we will do on the road against Coe and UD. This team has so much talent, but they are struggling more than I ever thought they would. Yet they played a great second half against Wartburg who seems to be hitting on all cylinders this year.

Apologies for the tardiness, but welcome back to wartknight and footballdaddy.  Nice to see you guys again.

I can't remember if it was Media Guy or Outside the Crate, but someone mentioned the Wartburg coaches are really high on this Knights team.  One thing I noticed in the UD game, besides the fact the Knights were a talented bunch, is that they were very workman like and just got down to the task at hand.  This wasn't a trash talking team like I've seen in the past.  Will be curious to see how their season plays out.  They certainly have potential for a great season.  Now hopefully I haven't jinxed them with the kind words.   ;)

My over-priced cable tv package has been over-showing a movie called "Mississippi Grind." I finally stopped on it close enough to the beginning that they were trying to establish the scene, and that scene was Dubuque.  By way of scene establishing, they showed a shot of a dive looking joint with a sign on the front that said, "Muligrews."  I said to myself, "hey, I've heard of that place!"  The funny thing is, I've been craving a chili dog ever since.

Friends of mine this past weekend had their picture taken in front of the Mulgrews sign at 2pm Friday.  Other friends noted it's not typical to go to Mulgrews before midnight  ;D

Your favorite team has a bye week. There are four other conference games on this weekend. Give me a sales pitch for which game you think I should watch this weekend from the comfort of my couch.

Looking for advice. We've been traveling to Dubuque every other weekend this fall. With this weekend off we still have a game in Dubuque the next weekend with an away game at Loras. Should we...
A - End the season with two straight trips to Dubuque with the away game at Loras and then at home against Central?
B - Just do the home games. Rest up for two weeks so you're properly prepared for the Dutch?
C - Either way, do I finally convince my family to eat a post game meal at Mulgrew's even though that's the opposite direction towards home and it's already a 90 minute drive back and we traditionally eat post game at The Mining Co.?

I can't wrap my head around calling a game just a few blocks from campus an away game. Colleges in Dubuque are about like churches in Pella, one on every corner.  :D

Do what you want about the Loras game, but you will want to see the Central game. Much as I hate to say it, I don't know which Central team will show up from week to week. The team that lost to Loras and is one of the most penalized teams in the conference or the one that nearly toppled a convincingly strong Wartburg? I am uneasy about Coe and UD might give me nightmares. I don't like this foreign feeling. Oddly enough the 4 QB offense I have faith in. The defense that couldn't get a stop when they needed it against Loras and Wartburg and let Simpson and BV rack up yardage needs to step up.

I would schedule to be there when the band is.
