Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

DBQ1965

One time Offensive Coach at Iowa Wesleyan and more recently Mississippi State Head Football Coach, Mike Leach has passed.  He was a breath of fresh air as a coach.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

May I recommend a book about the Air Raid offense, which covers the Iowa Wesleyan years.

The Perfect Pass by S. C. Gwynne. It is a very enjoyable read for football fans.

I was very happy to see you kicked SJU at Collegeville... we did the year before also... maybe we should form a pac and donate... LOL!

Outside the Crate

It's nice to see Wartburg's Christopher Winter being named d3football.com's Coach of the Year.

Northwestern College wins the NAIA title. Iowa has produced a ton of really good small college football the last few years. NWC, Morningside, Central, Grandview, and Wartburg have all made the semifinals or won titles. It'd be fascinating to see how it would shake out if they played across divisions.

Approaching ancient history now.  But Central and Northwestern played every year from 1970-1983
Central went 5-8-1 against Northwestern.  0-5-1 over the last 6 but they were all competitive games.

I know D3 schools are penalized, or at least not given credit for playing non-D3 programs so it's understandable  why we don't have M'side-Wartburg or NWC-Central anymore. It's too bad. Keiser who lost to NWC lost 3 non-NAIA games but still made the post-season. That couldn't happen in D3, correct?

Keiser won their league, so they'd have gotten an automatic bid in D3.

BVU hires new head coach.  I wasn't even aware they were going through a change in leadership.

I see that Wartburg ranks 4th among the 450 D3 colleges in Learfield Fall Director's Cup standings.  That's probably the best any ARC college has ever done.  Wartburg is only led by John's Hopkins, Williams and MIT.

Merry Christmas and happy new year to all our ARC friends!

My first post on the message boards, but will be my first of many.

This was an incredible season for my Knights!  Hopefully 2023 will equally or even more successful!
Sounds like Wartburg will be loaded next season.
