Uff da...

Not the start anyone really wants to a football season by the Duhawks. An absolute trouncing in Michigan. That was something that I did not expect. I was not so sure that Loras would win the game but after only losing by 14 (in a game they led by 14 at one point) last year at Hope I was not expecting that outcome. I'm not sure where to even start as all parts of the team looked terrible. 11 total rushing yards gained. 391 rushing yards given up. 112 passing yards gained. 271 passing yards given up. Hope only scored 49 but could have scored 100 if they wanted to.

I'm not sure what the answers are but boy do I hope (no pun intended) the fellas at 1851 Alta Vista figure something out and in a hurry or it is going to be a long season.

I am excited to see, what I believe to be, the Central football team's first trip to California. Thinking about it is giving me a craving for an In-N-Out burger.

We were planning on making the UD @ Platteville game, but not sure us old folk want to do a 2nd week in a row of a night game.  7pm kickoff in Platteville means midnight or later return to home.  Probably just hang out in Dubuque during the afternoon and then head home and watch the game on TV.

Are we getting the pick-ems odds for this week soon?

Ah, Doolittle you are still a spring chicken compared to me. But I do understand not going to those late games. For me it eould be more about fear of hitting a deer in the dark after one totaled my car a few years ago. As I have aged though, the ease of watching online broke my streak of 25+ years of traveling to every game. Fanosaurus Rex will have to cheer for me.

Driftless, things will hopefully get better at least in conference where every team knows each other better. Plus, you were playing the Flying Dutchmen. That has never been easy. 🤣

Posted! Apologies for the late post. Still working out a good system for seeing when Hansen posts the spreads and when I have time to post as I just started a new job. It looks like he posts them on Tuesdays so be on the lookout Tuesday nights for the pick'em post.

I appreciate the optimism Schipper. I too hope things can start to settle down this week and into conference. The Duhawks took care of Benedictine last year so I'm hoping for a great game under the lights in the Rock Bowl this Saturday night.

I will say, and I have not fact-checked this whatsoever, I believe the Duhawks have the record for most teams on their schedule with Dutch related nicknames. Which of course makes things incredibly tough  ;) .

I will be cheering for the Dutch Saturday, but it will be from 2000 miles away. Let's all hope the prevailing winds keep the wildfire smoke away from Thousand Oaks. That stuff can make even Southern California miserable.

I'll be in Thousand Oaks this weekend to see Central in person for the first time and to visit Rolland Stadium for the first time as well. Looking forward to this one!

I'm just about 10 miles to the south of where the big fire is burning now (it's moving north and east) and the air quality is not perfect, but playable here.  Thousand Oaks is quite a ways west, so I'm optimistic that it'll be fine to play there on Saturday.   Nothing like what was happening at Redlands last weekend that forced a postponement and a venue change.

I watched the Eau Claire marching band's half-time show. They are really good. Boy am I jealous!

Hey Driftless, if it makes you feel any better Wartburg only had nine yards rushing today against St Johns. Thanks St Johns for pissing off Wartburg before we play them next week. I do think they will be too enamored of another red and white team.

Cal Lutheran is a much better team than Illinois Wesleyan was. Glad to have someone throw up a little challenge before next week. Still most of the second half to go so who knows what will happen.

Was only a 7 point game at half but WLC broke it open in the second half. Warriors with 403 yards on the ground today.

Quote from: Schipper Strong on September 08, 2024, 07:36:40 PMCentral has another game against a team with a losing record. Going out to California for week two. I sure wish they would schedule tougher non conference games. Hello! Hope is a sister school, why aren't we playing them? I am sure there are stronger teams in MN, WI or IL we could play. I give Wartburg credit for taking on SJU. Wish Central would step it up.

Central has a sister school a whole lot closer than Michigan if the goal is tough non-con competition. Just sayin ...

Maybe cousins. Converge and RCA have their differences. That being said, football wise the match up would definitely be a fun one!

True! But they aren't NCAA which can count against you if you don't win the automatic birth to the playoffs, but have hopes. I miss the days when we started with Northwestern every year. Those were good times. I lived in Holland, MI for a short period of time and went to the Hope games so that is probably why I wish we would play them.

Platteville beats Dubuque 38-7
UD starting QB Ben Gultig out injured. Spartans played with a freshman. Tough assignment for anyone. On to next week.
