Warthog,

What time does the grill fire up tomorrow?  I have to work (if you call talking into a microphone work) in Waterloo in the AM, but should be back in Waverly no later than 1:00.

Also, do you need any extra dogs/brats/burgers?  Not that I doubt your preparedness, but just wanted to check.

Good question, Warthog -- what should I bring to contribute to the tailgate? I'll be heading north with my Orange-clad co-worker from Des Moines at about 3:00. The Coco's will be arriving mid- to late afternoon.

Lance, buddy, we'll miss you! Will you make it to any of the games this season??

This week's Around the Nation is posted and it talks about starting new quarterbacks, including those at Bethel and Central. Check it out, plus you can discuss ATN on our recently added ATN message board.

Got to appreciate the enthusiasm!!
Go Spartans!
And I'd love to see UD go .500 in conference, but I think we are a year away....you regular posters realize that in the next 2-3 seasons, UD will win the conference with a ton of juco and out of state talent, then fall back..kinda like UIU in 98 or 99..you heard it here first!

dutchfan,

Happened to park my car next to where Central was waiting to practice so I got to talk to some guys for awhile.  Really nice guys, sounds like you have a good team and last weekends win was alot of fun.  Will you or any Central fans be making it to stiftungfestivities?

Lance Harbor

DowJone$ - I have no clue what you just said, but you're something special.  Welcome aboard.

Dutchfan1 - Depending on how things schedule out with family related stuff, I'm probably going to come up for the season finale vs. Cornell.  But that can always change.  Either way, I'm going to try to get up for one game.

dutchfan, sportknight, etal:

I can't think of anything we need.  I just got through loading the Wartmobile and have prepared for preflight instruction.  The heat has caused some changes to our normal menu. (no hot dishes or food made with mayonaise)  The plan is for hotdogs, veggies & dips, chips & dips, black&orange Oreos (a tradition), Busch, Coca-Cola, Bloody Marys, peanuts, and a case of water.

Mrs. Warthog just spoke to Mrs. Coco.  They are heading south.

If you have some chairs you may want to throw them in.

I assume I will find a cool place to watch some of the Cyclone game and then head over to Walston-Hoover around 4:30/5:00.  Will cook when ever.

Good luck to all of the IIAC teams today.  Should be a couple of good ones out there.

JSPC jumps to 2-0 for the first time in quite awhile with a 42-0 rout of Perry...maybe I'm good luck? ;)

Dutch go to 2-0 to start the season.  Do all of you still really think a 5-5 or 6-4 season is in the works?

Copy of my post in the MIAC board
Tough day in Arden Hills...

2nd and goal from the central 2, 14.6 seconds on the clock.  Porta up the middle to the half yard line, 6 second, 5 second...gets the snap off a tenth of a second late Wetzell dives in for a meaningless td.  Very sad but we will be fine, this might help us more than we think.  We just played really bad in the 4th.  A pick 6 and the fumble on the punt(quite a bit like last year) really did us in.  From my angle we actually recovered the fumbled punt but lost it in the pile.  It was the right call to let them walk in for the TD even though Centrals QB thought he had won the super bowl after he ran into the endzone untouched.  Really a great drive by the offense to even get the chance to score. Aided by a 15 yard unsportmans like conduct penalty on Central for holding Phil down after a run.

IMO, worst than losing the game was possibly losing starting Center Tommy Davis for the season with a tore ACL.  Make things even worst was it came on a dirty play by the Central defender who pushed him down after the whistle and Tommy had stopped playing.  I had a hard time not confronting the Central guy after the game.

Croyle played from the 1st Q on with a concussion

Defense played beautifully aside from the opening drive.  Centrals points came from 7 on the opening drive, 7 from a fumble on our own 15, 2 from a high snap safety, 6 from a pick and return, and 7 from a fumbled punt on our own 5 and a walk in.

I have to hand it to Centrals punter, probably the best player on their team.

I feel bad for St. Olaf next week

On a happier note, a BIG thanks to Johnnie Red for coming out and making the tailgate party happen.  It was a pleasure to meet sjusection, duffman, JR, Retireoldrat, Ryan Coleman, OAS's father, and a nice former dutch coach
