BIRD of the FREE,
The WIAC has three teams in the top 25. The WIAC has five teams receiving votes and the IIAC has one, Central.    If Simpson and Coe win this weekend expect even less love for the IIAC in the polls.  The MIAC has two top 25 teams.  If Coe wins and St. Thomas beats Cocordia-More head then Coe should get a couple points thrown their way.  If Central wins they should crack the top 25
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Freebird

I would think the winner of Central/Coe should crack the top 25, your right central winning would give the iiac a better chance at a top 25

spartanfaithful

New to the board excited about the iiac this year. Spurrier my younger brother plays at osceola, and am looking forward to the october 27th Lakeland game.

Lance Harbor

Spartan Faithful - Welcom aboard.

Freebird and CooCoo - Not all that surprising that no one was ranked, however, that has a lot more to do with the preseason picks and how the cookies crumbled from there.

In my humble opinion, are Central and Coe among the 25 best teams in the country?

Coe - Yes
Central - Probably
Simpson - On the outside looking in, but could make a huge move.

The important thing for your team is that they keep winning.  That's the bottom line.  Other teams above will enventually lose, meaning someone from the IIAC will rise to the top.  And, CooCoo, yes, it's very important for non-conf opponents like St. Thomas and Bethel to keep winning.  That makes everyone look better.

Freebird

Those of us up at Bethel would appreciate it if Central could win out although I feel like there might be a better team in the IIAC

knights

I believe Coe is using a "spread" offense.  They are definately not using a one back set.  There is too much talent at back to use just one.  Northern is a junior and Suckow is a sophpomore.  Coe may be good for a couple of years.

Coehawk--

Suckow seems to be the focal point of opposition defenses this year.  He is a known entity rather than a surprise as a frosh.  No doubt he is talented but he didn't play much of a key role in your squads win.  Your defense holding UST to 3 and out twice in the last 5 minutes was the key to the game, that, and UST not going for a FG from the 23 yd line when leading by 4 with less than 2 minutes to play.  Northern is a load and hurt UST more with his running than Suckow, but maybe that is due to the aforementioned focus on Suckow.  Coe was fortunate to win, but deserving, so good luck to you the rest of the season.

Also, Suckow went to HS at Fredericksburg, what class is that?  I wasn't surprised at the the number of Iowa kids on the Coe roster but was surprised at the number of kids from smaller schools.  Being a native Iowan, I still follow Iowa HS football a bit.

WartTrainer

Thanks Walston for backing me on the tape thing.  I will agree with the everyone else on the board and say that this years team isnt as good as years past.  And if by some chance the Knights lose week one then then damn that sucks.  My prediction holds firm. Knights win by 24.   Coe over Central.

vinnysboy

Stop pissing and moaning about tape play your best defense and make adjustments that's what the coaches are paid. Execution is the key. yeah tape is nice but execution is better.

Spurrier

gill brothers,

your brother has played well. . .this week we play 6A #3 Edgewater. . .to be the best, we must beat the best. . .good luck against luther
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

qbdriver

Greetings All,

Some insight for all you rookies.........   The IIAC has some things to prove before we start talking top 25 or playoffs.   Maybe by week 6 or 7 we can start talking.  To gain respect across the country we'll need to do better in our non-conference games and have one or two teams remain undefeated.  Mt Union and Linfield would be laughing if they heard some of the posts.   Let's get serious, with out spring football our league is at a huge disadvantage.  That doesn't mean we can't have several teams make a run at it this year.      Warthog, I agree with your analysis of the Knights.  They will come ready to play this week and are just getting comfortable with their new faces.    Stormchaser, Simpson will have a hard time with the Knights, sorry!

Warttrainer and Pakk, stop fighting, it's sad to read and ruins the professionalism our chat board.

And Central somehow continues to find a way to win, despite being completely outplayed two weeks in a row.  The back from Bethel should have scored 5 TDs the way he was running all over their defense. 225 yards rushing!   Those turnovers will kill you!  Congrats to the Dutch!   The game against Coe will tell us a lot.

Luther, where are you?  This is supposed to be your big year........    Sheridan is the real deal but can your defense stop anyone?  Good luck this week against the Spartans, I hear they're tough?  Ask Dow!

It was so embarrassing to see Cornell, an Iowa Conference team, loose to the like of Iowa Wesleyan.  Mt Pleasant, IA?   Have you ever been there?  A glorified country high school at best.  Sad, Sad, Sad!   And to get shut out on top of that!  Will the Rams stay in the IIAC?

Dow, give me a break.  You're trying way too hard and no your QB is not the best in the league.  Are you living inside a Spartan glass bubble?  What planet is Spartanville on anyway?  Platteville is down this year and they shut you out!  Blackburn? Are you kidding me?  You must be new.....Good luck with Sheridan this week, he'll go for at least 250 and your see that nothing has changed in Dubuque.

At last but not least stop talking about Coe being at the top of the league.  They beat a cream puff in Westminster.  Blackburn and Westminster are in the same league I believe.  St Thomas will be down this year and be lucky to win five games.  They lost most of their defense that won got them to 7-2.  St Johns and Concordia will be at the top of that league again.   And please, please, please find a QB.  I heard that they are still rotating, c'mon already.  That never works.   I am not saying you are not good, but let's see if they can win again against the Dutch on the road.  CooCoo and Charlie, tell us more about this new spread offense.  Suckow only touched the ball 7 times.....was he hurt? Also what happened to All-Staker?  I heard he got beat twice over the top last week.......

Pakk

Fighting?  Where did that comment come from?

As an ex-Central player, I am happy to see them at 2-0.  I however, am not jumping on the bandwagon yet.  I read a few comments of how Central is a top 25 team.  Not yet.  Hopefully they'll get there, but it is way to early for that talk.  We will see after this weekend.

I also read a comment about the spartans?  Is that Dubuques mascott?  I'm actually serious about that question.  I played them 4 times and couldn't tell you what there mascott is.  Sorry.

Floyd in Iowa City

Wartburg had a hard time putting Augsburg away last year as well.  They then lost to B.V. the next week before bouncing back to win a share of the title.  This week is a big game for them to show the league that nothing has changed from the previous three seasons.

The game tape stuff does not do too much for me since Marcus LeVesseur played QB against Wartburg last year at times as well.  Wartburg won by three last year and won by three this year, so they had an idea about what they were getting into.

I know Wartburg has an injury situation at RB, but what has to worry some around the program besides the 34-7 loss in week 1 is that Wartburg only out gained Augsburg by 20 yards last week.  Last year they out gained the Auggies by over 250 yards but had turnovers that kept the game close.

It is all about winning and moving on, but there are lots of questions hanging out there right now.

sc_stormchaser

qbdriver - if you read my posts you would see that I never said Simpson would have an easy time with Wartburg. In fact, just the opposite. I said that SC hasn't beat Wartburg in 7 years, but I hope Simpson plays well and maybe we could come out with a win. I'll be pleasantly surprised if SC wins, but I'll also be surprised if Wartburg wins by 24 (wartTrainer's prediction)

96diver,
You're reading skills are fine, but you're coprehension needs work.  I said that if Coe wins hopefully they will get a few points, not enter the top 25.   If Thiel deserves 2pts. for a win against Ohio Wesleyan then it is not out of the realm of possibility for Coe to get "a couple points thrown their way,"  if they beat Central this weekend.  No one in here has compared any IIAC team with Mount Union or Linfield.  So I may be a rookie in my knowledge of DIII football, but at least I graduated from a school where being able to show comprehension of what I read was required.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Charlie Kohawk

qbdriver - the best way to learn about Coe's new offense is to experience it. You'll all get that chance over the course of the year. As for Suckow, he is not injured. My theory of his seeming lack of production (and it's merely a theory) is that a) opponents are keying on him (based on his 23 touchdowns a year ago, who could blame them?) and b) the coaches are saving him for the conference schedule. He'll have plenty of opportunities over the course of the year, although more may come out of the slot than the backfield. And Staker doesn't need me, or anyone, to defend his play. He may have gotten beat a couple times, but he also had 8 tackles and a key interception (almost two). Suckow and Staker may be from a small high school, but they are big time performers at Coe. Oh, and the quarterback carrousel ended at  halftime against St. Thomas. Andy Tekippe played the entire second half and, presumably, has won the job for keeps.
