My picks:

Wartburg 21
Simpson 20

Luther 35
Dubuque 14

Loras 24
BV 14

Coe 24
Central 17

But then again...I might miss every dang one! God, I love it!

vinnysboy

Walston, win or lose i'll post for dubuque and the IIAC so back off. More important than wins or losses are my former players

sc_stormchaser

BV, Coe, Luther, and Simpson (The last time SC beat Wartburg, we were conference champs...maybe this is the year?? I know, I might be dreaming. But I would love to see Simpson back on top.

qbdriver - your question about D-lineman - Jason Ripke (Simpson), period. The kid's a freak.

Keith-If speed kills then I go with Sherden
(man I hate defending the Norse)

Show-I tried to forget that one, thanks for bringing up horrible memories : >:(

Vinnysboy-Relax, it was a joke. Every year Dubuque starts off beating someone and we have all sorts of new guys (maybe girls) on here talking about how this is the year UD puts it together. By week 4 they're usually gone.

Just curious for those picking Simpson-Would you have picked the same 2 weeks ago, or does the Millikin game favor heavily in your decision?
I assume that's the case and I'm really hoping the Knights show that game was an abberation (sp?)
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I've heard of Ripke and I would say at this point he is probably the best, unless some unknown comes out and has a monster year.  Central usually has some very talented DLiners year in and year out, but I don't know if they have any studs this year.  They're usually a bitch to run against.

Junge is returning all-conference if memory serves me correctly and isn't there a pretty good guy back at Loras?

Everyone is invited to Cedar Rapids on Nov. 12th for the IIAC championship game.
Simpson vs.  Coe.  Not saying this will happen, but I don't think things will culminate with Wartbug vs. Cornell or Central vs. Buena Vista playing for the title. So, in hopes of a huge final game at the end of the year in the IIAC,  Go Simpson and Co Coe this weekend.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

My picks for the weekend:

Loras at Buena Vista -- I don't think Loras has it this year. Plus, driving all the way out to Storm Lake, the DuHawks won't be fresh.
Coe at Central -- I think both teams have comparable talent. It's the home opener in Kuyper, and the stands are going to be packed. Home field advantage wins, although the score will be tight.
Luther at Dubuque -- UD's Defense steps it up, but can't contain Luther.
Simpson at Wartburg -- after last week's contest with Augsburg, I just don't think the Knights have what it takes this year. I think if Simpson brings their "A" game, they will be able to edge out the 'Burg at home.

Here's my picks for the conference openers:

Coe over Central in a doozy of a contest
Loras over BV
Luther over Dubuque
Simpson over Wartburg as the suicide hotline in Waverly gets flooded with calls
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

War Pig

Dutchfan, I hear you about Central's fan support at home games.  It is very impressive.  Hopefully nobody informed their quarterback that the head coach was quoted on the cover article on this site as saying he would have never recruited him.  That was pretty brutal, but you can't blame the guy for being honest.  My buddy was at the Central/Auggie game and said the Dutch O-line is once again pretty impressive.  Their defense probably needs some work based on the yards they've surrendered.

Bottomline is that Wartburg are still the Champs until somebody proves otherwise.  I'll be bragging big time when all my picks cover.

The Show

BV returns a 2 time All-Conference pick on the D-Line in Rick Ohlinger.

Sorry Walston, couldn't resist...

And no, I wouldn't have picked Simpson to win against Wartburg 2 weeks ago.
Sometimes You're the Windshield & Sometimes You're the Bug!

WartTrainer

Coe over Central -- Suckow's first of many big games

BV over Loras -- On a last second field goal

Sherden over UD

Wartburg over Simpson -- Hammes's return is a huge spark for the Knights offense and they win convincingly

sportsknight

Loras has their turf down.  Not sure on the progress of the bleachers.  Pics are at http://depts.loras.edu/dev/fortheglory.html  Scroll down for latest update.

As for this week's games, I'll take Coe by 3, Luther by 14, Loras by 1, and Wartburg by 7.

To all the peter gammons of this post (yes a baseball reference, but stay with me here).. I want to say thank you for making me laugh.  I would like to take a poll and see how many people on here actually at one point or another played collegiate football.  qbdriver for example thank you for letting me know how almost every team in the conference will do even before conference play begins, and not only must you be exceptionally informed on the iiac but you seem to know all about the wiac to, as UWP is down this year apparently.  Been to any of their games?  Seen ud's defense?  How about coe, how'd they do last year.. co-champs?  But no shot this year right... lol  sheridan's going for 250 on saturday on uds defense huh.  When is the last time you saw the ud defense, or know any player on the ud defense?  Do you get your wealth of knoweledge from the stat sheet or actual games?  Im just sayingi  believe before people talk about any team or player that maybe they should educate themselves.  Good luck to all the athletes this week.  Have a good one fellas

p.s. Spurrier... I no longer play since i am out of eligibility but am living vicariously through the iiac, my brother, and these posts.
