coocoo you may be right but a pretty big statement right now dont you think or are you not giving BV or simpson any credit.  They may come up and steal one from you and then where will you be. Hoping that central can knock off Wartburg so you can tie? Coe has a good team but to early to make a statement like that i think.  Thats how upsets happen when you start counting games in the bag before they are played dont you think.

Dutchfan I have to aggree with you.  Based on the first week of action, I think the IIAC is the same as it was last year.  I don't think any team really got better or worse, wouldn't everyone aggree?

I don't think there is an intimidating force in the league, just like last year.  Coe and Wartburg will be there at the end.  Coe will get taken because they can't run the ball late in the game to put it on ice.  With a healthy Hammes, the Knights take the league without a tie.

p.s.  All my over/unders were right and all my teams covered accept Coe.

War Pig I don't think Wartburg will even escape without a loss.  The conference is pretty tuff.  Didn't sound like you exactly Manhandled Simpson but we will have to wait and see how things play out.

Well, I was a little off thinking it would be a high scoring game.  BV got off to a quick start with a great kick return which led to a TD on their first possession.  Then a blocked punt for a safety gave them the 8-0 halftime lead.  Hinrichs then sealed the deal with an INT return for a TD in the 4th quarter.  Congrats to Hinrichs on tieing the school record with 3 INT's in a game and almost had another one deflected to him late which would've given him 4.  Props to BV's young "D" for pitching the shutout.  They swarmed to the ball and never allowed Loras to reach the red zone the entire game.

Loras didn't look like they had the athletes that they've had in the past.  Their OLB's were the size of DB's. I'll give credit to the D-Coordinator, they put in some sort of "junk" defense to help control BV's passing game and it worked well.  Hopefully Loras's QB and RB aren't done for the year, they took a couple nasty shots, but hopefully they aren't season ending injuries.

I saw conditioning was brought up in an earlier post and it looked like that played a factor in this game as well.  Loras seemed to be sucking air pretty bad by halfway through the 3rd quarter.

Congrats to Coe, Wartburg, and Luther on their wins today.

wartburg beat simpson? i guess some things never change.....
speaking of reminising,(sp) i have to throw this out there because a lot of you either didn't see it or don't remember it....

this streak started in 98 with one of the sweetest goal line stands i've ever seen at any level.  especially considering how good their o-line was and the horse that  guy lehman was running the ball.... he ran for like 150 that game to paint the picture
1st down got to the 1 and then 3 straight running plays for nada

that game pretty much defined wartburg's 9-1 season and started a pretty good run since then...

Dutchfan,
How is it a big statement when I use a phrase like "it seems like."  If I said, "it will be wart and coe,"  then I could understand your comment.  Did I even say Coe dominated Central.  Do you think we have forgotten about Dubuque last year?  That game last year will keep the kohawks on point this year.
Pig,
did you go to the Central game?  Coe was able to run the ball.  They sustained a drive that took about six minutes off the clock in the fourth quarter.  That drive was instrumental in Coe's win.  They can run the ball.  Coe is using a different offense than last year.  I think it has been successful, but will get a whole lot better.  Dutch said they needed another 5-8 minutes in order to win the game.  Well that drive took away the dutches necessary 5-8 minutes.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I  believe Loras' plan on defense is to try and be an attacking defense.  Bigger guys at the key positions may give you size but may lack the speed, so you go with a smaller and hopefully more aggressive man to cover flats and try and hit holes faster then what a bigger guy can, of course we all know this, but i am just trying to justify it.  What a surprise that in a season Loras is said to not have the athletes they have had in the past.  I cant really say yet becuase I havent seen them play, but i am hoping that when i go to Homecoming I will be shown what is going on with them.  Another thing about the BV Loras game is that it is usally a pretty good game to watch year in and out, both teams play hard and usually the game is close, I guess just suck it up and get ready for next week, practice hard fellas.
Ok Ok ok lets just take this one foot at a time.....

Devine-
  De ja vu yesterday-
Simpson first and goal from the 4, in the North endzone. first play run to the 2. Second play run to the 1, third and fourth down no gain. That stand from 98 got brought up quit e few time yesterday. I've seen that picture of 4th down from 98 up in the football office. Its a pretty neat pile. I'm pretty sure the o-lineman that Simpson tried to run over in '98 is their o-line coach now.

I remember that Devine.  Old Man River really made a smart call on 4 and 1.  All he needed was 3 points and Simpson wins. He had a kicker that was dropping balls on top of Ottersberg during pre-game warmups.  Conference championship hanging in the balance... I know I'm kicking...

Show- It sounds like the BV-Loras game had its share of TO's and Defense.

I just want to clear a couple things up. Loras' D-Coordinator is also the head coach. Coach Klieman in my opinion is one hell of a coach in terms of game planning and schemes. It was not a "junk" defense,it was a tweak in his defensive scheme. I know you gave him credit, I just wanted clarify.

To address your thoughts on Loras' OLB's being the size of db's. It is real easy. Loras runs a 4-2-5 Scheme. So technically the OLB's are DB's.

Did you look at the Loras roster and then look at who played. I believe there are a ton of 1st year guys playing for the Duhawks. So, athletically, they may not look like they have in the past, but I have a feeling they will be more athletic as the season goes on and as the years go by.

I hope these clarifications, can help clear a couple things up for you Show. Not that your comments were bad, I just wanted to make you aware of what I know. Which isn't near as much as I did a few years ago when I was at Loras.

What did you think of Loras' offense? Not really in how good it was (obviously neither offense was on fire yesterday) but rather how different it was from the Coach Bierie era.

I only wish I could have been there for the defensive struggle. Nothing better than a nice fall day next to Storm Lake.

Sounds like the games were exciting throughout the conference this weekend.  Guys, I don't think that anyone team can be considered the front runner in the conference just yet.  I coached for the Norse for three seasons and one thing that I learned was that no game is a gimme.  This weekend will be another big one, especially for the Norse and the Knights.
Go Norse!!!

Walston Hoover

Depending on when you coached the Norse, I can definitely see why you think no game is a gimme.

I coached for the Norse 2002-2004.  16-14 over three very tough and exciting seasons in Decorah.

CooCoo, I wasn't at the Coe/Central Game but I do know that Coe had the ball with about 2-3 minutes left and could have put it away if not for a very quick three and out.  It probably won't matter because I don't think there is a team in the league that can come from behind and win a game with the pass other than Coe.

Devine, I thought Simpson had the "steel curtain" for a defensive line this year?  Reading the rushing stats for Wartburg would lead me to believe they got hammered on, especially in the second half.

Will Luther have their coming out party this Saturday?

Pig,
Down two scores with 3 minutes to go in a division III game, 9 out of 10 times the game has already been put away.  Central scored their second touchdown with 6 seconds left.  We'll see what happens on the fifteenth of October, but I guarantee one thing, after this weekend Coe will still be undefeated.
