ok to a different topic, how do we feel about the Loras/Central game?  I think that if Loras can contain the Dutch and get a few big plays, they may have a chance. This sounds like any game, but with the unknown status(at least from here) of their(Loras) RB and QB it may be a totally different game.  The defense has to step it up this week and give the offense allot of opputunities to get some bigs plays and special teams has to be consistant in a positive way. Lets hope this all happens, ill keep my fingers crossed.
Ok Ok ok lets just take this one foot at a time.....

War Pig

The Loras v. Central game should be very exciting.  After all,the winner should be able to lock up fourth or fifth place in the league, and that gets my motor running.

Spartanfaithful, what is the weakest part of the Luther team?  You're right if you said their defensive line.  If you look at the past conference Champions in the league, they had all had a very solid front seven that take away the oppenents rushing attack.  I would never get my hopes up about a team with a weak d-line.

"LC65, I don't have any respect for Luther at all, which is why I am taking Wartburg -10 points on Saturday. If a 6-4 season and a win against mediocre Central are the main credentials for getting respect, that dog won't hunt for me. "--War Pig

War Pig,
Doesn't a win in Indianola against a very impressive Simpson squad earn Luther any respect?  How about an overtime loss to B.V.?

Go Norse!!!

Walston Hoover

Are you talking about the .500 Simpson team or the BV team that lost 3 of their last 4 on their way to choking away the conference title?
Respect comes from showing up week after week and putting together a few years of doing so. I certainly respected Loras after the @$$ whooping they put on us last year, but that didn't last too long.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

lorbec47

Wartburg guys--
I could see why you would lose that respect for Loras right away...it was the rematch they had right? Give me a break. Every game is exciting in this conference, some just obviously have more at stake than others. I can see why u wouldn't respect B.V. either as they also beat you last year. You played Luther in a tight game, without "The Show" in the backfield. If you think you can contain him this weekend, good luck, and share those secrets fellas. Good luck to all.

dbljay21

Walston,
Does winning our last 4 games count as showing up week after week or was it just a lucky streak?
Go Norse!!!

The Show

I've never played in Luther's backfield... ;D

Okay, I say enough about this respect garbage.  Some of you guys worry more about respect than freshman sirority girls.

Who (in your opinion) is the best coach in the IIAC?  Is it Willis because he wins the most?  Is there a coach you feel is any better?

2 best coaches in the IIAC, if they had a chance to coach, would be Lance Harbor and DutchFan1.

When Dubuque beats Coe in 2004 and Cornell beats Wartburg in 2001, no team in the IIAC should lack respect for any other team in the IIAC.  If a team looks past or disrespects another league member they are likely to be taken to the woodshed and get beaten like a red haired stepchild.

The players and teams respect each other, there's no question about that. Its when they don't that they get bit. The respect amongst the fans and the respect amongst the players are 2 totally different things.

war pig and warthog,
well said about respect.  It was always my experience in the three years coaching in the conference that if you weren't prepared to play on Saturday you could get beat by ANY team in the league.  Someone much wiser than I said that to be the best, you have to beat the best.  I said that earlier today until someone defeats Wartburg and Coe, they have to be the teams to beat this year.  And that's all that I am going to say about the respect deal...

The best coaches in the IIAC have to be Willis at the 'Burg because they are always making a run for the conference title, and I think Hefty is one of the best because I played and coached for him and he has turned the Luther program around from the doormat of the league to a conference contender in just three seasons.  Also, Raeburn at Coe has to be included because of the success he has had in just five years.

Warthog, I'd hire you as an assistant any day. :)

I don't know who is the best  coach, but Eric Raeburn may have the most potential as a coach.  He is only 35 years old, maybe 34.  He is a division III champion football player from Mount Union.  He knows what it takes to get to the promised land.  He has done pretty well in only five or so years.  Let's just hope Coe can hold on to him.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!
