And a big THANK YOU to Luther for the whooping they put on Wartburg earlier in the year, too.  We'd have another mess with three teams at 7-1 in the IIAC (assuming Coe, Central, and WB win next week) if it had not been for the Norse.  So Luther - you DID figure in to the IIAC race this year, although not in the way you may have wanted to.

Walston Hoover

With Wartburg's complete breakdown on special teams, and an opportunistic Dutch team, Wartburg didn't have a chance. The Knights are a good offensive team when they can stick with their game plan, and they had to abandon it in the second half after 4 special teams plays leading to Dutch scores. Wartburg outgained the Dutch 469-300. The punt team has been absolutely pathetic all year and has not improved. Wartburg has to lead the league by a bunch in punts that have been blocked.
It was nice to finally see a healthy Dan Hammes today, We finally got to see what all the preseason hype was about. Schuring is the real deal as well and had some punishing runs in the second half. At 100%, I would put them both ahead of Sherden.
Congrats to the Dutch, but I disagree with Sportsknight, I think Coe has a better shot at making a run in the playoffs. The Dutch are decent on O and D, but dominated special teams. I felt Coe had a better offense and Defense altogether, and I don't think their special teams are too bad.

and coocoo,
If there is a 3 way tie, Wartburg is out because of the Rose Bowl Rule, and then they go head to head, so yes, coe will be in.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I'm  not sure that works in this hypothetical. It would be three teams tied with two losses. They split against each other but odds are the tie would be broken by going through the rest of the standings, because the teams would not have swept the other remaining IIAC members.

Let's hope that doesn't happen Pat.

Central fans should be encouraged, Whitworth lost as did St. Olaf's today so hopefully Central will be at least #8 in the regional rankings.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Pakk

Great job Dutch!!!  Take care of business next week and maybe you'll get a rematch with Coe.  Remember the poll at the start of the year asking who would be a bigger surprise to win the conference and Central was a team listed?  Remember when people on this site picked luther and dubuque, and loras, to beat Central this year.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.  26 conference titles and with a win next week that makes 27.  Picked to take 5th in the conference?  Yeah right.

Central, Central, Central

Pat Coleman

I remember in the Kickoff we picked Wartburg, Central, Coe 1-2-3 in the conference. I feel pretty good about that at this point.

I believe Pakk was referring to the IIAC coaches preseason poll.

I understand, just pointing out there were multiple opinions out there. :)

Pat,

I just looked at the Cortaca jug room, boy do you have your hands full over there, and I thought the MWC room was bad.

Yeah, there's some animosity between Ithaca and Cortland fans.

Congratulations, Central! It sounds like you took it to our Wartburg friends.

Hope to see you out here in McMinnville. Mrs. Coco would like to go back to the rooftop bar and drink wine with DutchFan1 again.
Two words:  THE STREAK

Charlie Kohawk

The Kohawks have to feel awfully fortunate to get out of the Rock Bowl with a W today, despite dominating the game statistically. For three quarters it looked like we were snake bitten.

Coe had plenty of opportunities and moved the ball effectively against the Loras defense, but couldn't put it in the end zone until the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Coe shut down the Duhawk offense all day long. Take away a 68-yard flea flicker (which resulted in 0 points) and Loras was held to less than 100 yards of offense. And the Kohawks delivered more awe-inspiring hits than I can remember -- Squires, Pfantz and Stacker delivered particularly memorable blows.

On offense Coe rolled up 487 yards on 92 plays, including 56 rushes. (What were they thinking?!  ;) Helmet stickers to Northern (158 yards rushing and a TD), Suckow (2 TDs and 124 all-purpose yards) and Rife (10 catches for 152 yards).

You all know how I feel about Suckow, but Central's Schuring won my MVP vote (as if I had one) today. 175 yards and three TDs in a 37-20 romp AT Wartburg is a big-time MVP performance. Congratulations Dutch! Assuming both Coe and Central win next week, I don't see how the NCAA could deny two deserving IIAC teams.

P.S. to CooCoo, let's not make this personal. For the record though, I'm salaried, which is another way of saying I'm on the clock 24/7. I show up well before kickoff to ensure myself a good vantage point and I've attended all games, home and away, except BV. You?

CooCoo,

If it is a true Rose Bowl rule I think that Central will get the bid.  Both Coe and Wartburg have been to the playoffs since Central has.  Your Kohawks with an invitation and Wartburg with the automatic.  So correct me if I am wrong.  But if it is a "true" Rose Bowl Rule the Dutch have been out of the playoffs the longest.

Charlie,

I've been to all the games, but B.V, St. Thomas, and Loras.  I did listen to each game on the radio.  I even bring a transistor radio to most the home games.  Having two young children and one on the way I could not commit to going to three of ten games.  I also go to the games by myself.  The only person I know to talk to at these games is Chandler, which if I'm lucky I get to say hi.  You on the other hand probably know plenty of people and enjoy their company.  I sit alone not feeling a part of the college, but rooting my heart out.  So maybe you people who work at Coe might try to include alumni a little better instead of propagating the "old boy" network that keeps most alumni away.  Remember Mr. 24/7 you're getting paid and receiving brownie points from the "old boys" to go to the games.  I just love the Kohawks and my only reward is the satisfaction of seeing a great team play in an even greater conference.
