Lance Harbor

I'm going to be away from a computer pretty much all weekend.  A few items of business to take care of:

The IIAC Regular Season Pick 'em has come down to this:

Person     Games Correctly Picked
The Show                23
Dutchfan1           23
Lance Harbor         22
Charlie Kohawk       22
NorseFan           21
Dbljay21            20
QB Diver            19

Keep those picks rollin' in.  I haven't decided what the winner will get, but I'll make sure it's something good.

Otherwise, I'll jump along with the rest of the CatDome nation and throw in my best wishes for the Dutch.  If the season were to end today, Central is a playoff qualifier in my book.

A big HOWEVER, the season does not end today, and I know that the Beavers aren't going to roll over and play dead.  I'll be listening to ESPNews on my Sirius radio Sunday afternoon.  Hope to hear the Dutch have their name called.

My Picks:
Wartburg - Knights end on a positive note
Coe - Kohawks finish strong, Storm make it interesting
UD - I have to stick with my preseason pick.  A win here would heal a lot of wounds
Central - The Dutch take care of business

Picks for this weekend from the driver:

Wartburg drills the Rams 40-14
Loras over Dubuque 20-19
Central overwhelms BV in a game that won't be close 35-10
and Coe holds onto to beat Simpson 28-27

IIAC gets 2 teams in as UW Whitewater is shipped to the North

show -- don't worry; the Dutch know that we aren't in the playoffs yet. No one is looking past BV. I'm making the trip to Pella this weekend for the game, so I hope it's a decent match-up.  ;)

Lance, is this two years in a row that I am one of the leaders in the Pick Em contest? Sweet! What happened to the pre-season picks?

The Show

Looks like a "make or break" week for myself in the pick 'em.  Didn't realize I was tied for the lead! ::)  Seems like I'll either end with a commanding lead or fall to about 6th.  Lets go underdogs!!!

Unfortunately, I'm being forced to attend a wedding this weekend.  Some people must have missed the rules meeting on not getting married between September - November...  So I'll have to rely on calling my parents after the wedding/game to see how the lil' bro and the Beavers ended up.

GO BEAVERS!!!

Cornell's head football coach Ray Reasland just announced that he is resigning effective November 23.  It is not a huge shock as the Rams have had a hard time in football in the Iowa Conference, but I wish him well as I thought he did a good job with Cornell Baseball when he had it and also did a good job back in the days when he got New Hampton going again as a top 3A high school program.

Good luck Coach!

I know this is a football board, but is there a chance that anyone saw the Cornell-Simpson wrestling dual meet this week?  I haven't followed what has been going on at Cornell Wrestling other than the coaching change, but that interim coach must be doing a hell of a job so far as the Rams knocked off #12 Simpson, 32-18.

I saw Cornell against Luther last year and the dual was not even close.  Granted Luther has had a very good wrestling program but I see that Cornell was 5-12 overall and 1-6 in the IIAC.  The Rams have a great small college wrestling tradition, but it is a little like Luther Football that it needs to be dusted off.

Wow, I didn't even know that Lance was keeping score ;D

Not a completely satisfying season for the Norse at 6-4, but it is still a winning season...

On to the picks this week:
Wartburg over Cornell in a laugher
Central over BV
Coe over Simpson
Spartans over Duhawks in the battle of Dubuque

Good Luck to the teams this weekend
Go Norse!!!

DF1 - The preseason pick 'em winner will be announced next week.

Show - Totally agreed on the "No weddings during football season" Rule.  Some people just have no sense of priorities.  ;D

Dbljay - I have to admit, the fact that this new message board doesn't delete rolled over posts is a huge reason why I was able to keep up.

Pat Coleman - I just now decided that I like the new board compared to the old one.  Thanks for switching.  ;)

Floyd,
I had the pleasure of watching Cornell knock off Simpson. Dan Gable had some words to say before the match. I'm not an Iowa boy, but I imagine it was very big for those elementary kids that were there to watch. Some of the Simpson youngsters seemed to be lacking in the strength department. They weren't able to finish some of their shots. This Cornell team might make some noise in the Iowa Conference this winter. I know it's early but they look good. They have room to improve but this is a hell of a start. I look forward to the rest of the season.

GO CENTRAL----the Cat faithful are pulling for you Saturday
on a positive note, as a result of that debacle we got a state of the art field and enhanced facilities (new instant replay scoreboard and all)....There will be no "Miracle In The Mud" the next time we meet!  That game did spur the Catdome to the next years slogan which is still with the team today------

LEAVE NO DOUBT
The Linfield people came to the IIAC board looking for some fun.  I think it would be rude not to play with them.  I will remind them that Linfield was the undefeated, unbeatable number 1 seed in the West in 2000 also.  One difference is that, it was probably their first time in the play-offs and...oops one game and out.
Too bad they didn't have the instant replay thing back in 2000.  Maybe they would have waited to see the Miracle in The Mud replay instead of coming out on the field to celebrate before the game was over.

HAVE NO DOUBT BUT ALWAYS CUT THE CARDS.

CaliRam,

Thanks for the reply.  Too bad there won't be a wrestling board for the winter until baseball starts up in the spring.  Good thing the Iowa Conference has such good wrestling programs to keep my interest outside of the college baseball and football seasons.

On the football side of things, B.V. beat Waldorf the week before they mildly upset Luther.  Simpson beat Waldorf last week.  Can the Storm also use the bounce of beating a weak Waldorf team and upset Coe?  Last week was certainly one of Simpson's best offensive games in quite some time, but they seemed to be solid against B.V. two weeks ago as well.

Don't come on here flapping your jaws and sounding stupid.  You make the rest of the IIAC look bad.

Linfield and the rest of their league may have been recent additions to NCAA D3, but Linfield has a long and storied history of college football at the NAIA level.  Playoffs are a regular habit with those folks.  Close your blow hole and catch up on history before you write things that show how little you know.

It is not going to take a UW-W shipment to the North to get two IIAC teams in.  The eight teams that are in the AFCA poll will be your WEST region.

Linfield, Occidental, St. John's, Concordia-Moorehead, UW-W, Monmouth, Coe, and Central.  Instead of crying foul for having a stacked West, we as football fans or fans of great football should be excited about the quality of games we will have to watch.  Their can be only ONE!

Geeze lighten up.  I thought I was talking to some posters from Linfield not the Vatican.  Yes, I know they are the defending national champs and that they have been winners forever and that we should all tremble at the mention of their name.  However, the "history" they came on here to talk about, is their one play-off game in 2000.   I know a little about that "history."
