I forgot about Klunder.  he would be great.  Last I heard, I think he was at Notre Dame??...

Yes Ryan Johnson Central's left OT made the lineup for the Aztec Bowl.

As Far as Don Knock going to Wartburg I don't think so.  The rumor I heard was that the salary cut to coach was to much for him.  They wouldn't give him his sons tuition either till he was a junior or senior I think thats correct.  So I think he will be at ISU for the near future.

Going back a few days, regarding the impact on recruiting.  The only way time the coaching change will effect recruting is now, when wartburg is lacking a head coach.  But since most players don't decide until the spring there won't be much of an impact.  I am sure the rest of the coaching staff is on top of recruiting at the moment.  The tradition at Wartburg will continue to get players to school.  I know this echos much has been said on the topic, but just wanted to voice my two pennies.

tttmib,

I tend to agree with you to a point.  With no head coach there the other coaches will attempt to use this to sway recruits.  It may or may not affect recruiting.  Time will only be the judge.  It's all conjecture on our parts anyway.  But don't underestimate other coaches using that to recruit players.  It was used in my son's case when Kac left central.  But I think my son felt that he liked Coach McMartin even more than he liked Coach Kac so in that case it was a win win for him.  I have said this before I think Coach Willis will get a quality person to fill his shoes whoever it turns out to be.

As an old alumnus, I would love to see a fellow alumni named to the Wartburg Position. I am looking for some insight:

Roger Britson - great motivator, intelligent coach. I wonder if there are any hard feelings towards Wartburg because he was passed over when Bob Nielson left. At one time Roger was the ultimate "Knight." Someone in an earlier post mentioned that Klunder bleeds black and orange. Britson was influential on Klunder.

Don Knock - Fifteen years ago Coach Knock was so loyal to Central that no other IIAC school existed. I wonder if that loyalty still exists. Is Knock still at ISU? I thought he was at a smaller coach in Nebraska as a Head Coach.

Klunder - Good guy, I am curious how long he will stay at Notre Dame. Correct me if I am wrong, but he really doesn't do much coaching as the director of football operations. I doubt if he's leave that post.

I wonder if Bob Nielson would consider comming back to Waverly if his kids were graduated from high school.

Oldknight.  I agree with you totally.  I'd love to see it be an alum and I'd love to see it be Britson.  I emailed him about the position yesterday, in case he hadn't heard.  You should do the same.  PM me if you're interested and I'll send you his email

That's really ironic. I emailed him yesterday also. He hasn't replied yet. I have not followed Moon Valley this year so I don't know if he's still in season.

I have talked to him a couple of time over the years but we never discussed the situation of his leaving Waverly. I hope that there are no hard feelings between him and Wartburg.

Apparently there is some problems with the phone lines coming out of Waverly.  I haven't received a call about my interview time. :'(

I hope the Knights hire a D3 guy.  We tried a D1 wannabee before coach Willis and it lasted one whole season.  That doesn't seem to be the way to build a program over the long haul.

I realize Coach Williams did a great job at Simpson coming from D1, but he was closing out a career not building a resume.

WalstonHoover, speaking of Coach Williams, how is recruiting going at Dowling for next season.  Assumption is finding some Catholic converts over on the east side of the state.

Warthog,

Maybe they're just going to hand it to you outright, without going through the interview process. Everybody already knows you there.

I noticed that among the IIAC players being named to the various All-West Region Team, there is a linebacker from Wartburg on the second team. Good job. He probably had an older brother working with him, huh, giving him a few pointers?

News flash.........

Luther Conerback Sam McDonald has been added to the Aztec Bowl roster.  Good luck to all the IIAC representatives

Congrats, also, to Central's Ryan Johnson for the bid to the Aztec Bowl.

For the 9th consecutive year, Central's legendary coach, Ron Schipper, has the distinction of coaching the Aztec Bowl.

It's really too bad that the AB is the same weekend of the Stagg Bowl -- every season, the two fall on the same weekend, and it seems to exclude the guys in the title game from playing in the D3 version of an All-Star game.

Anyway, congrats to all of the IIAC players selected -- enjoy Mexico!

Mexico may be a little warmer than Iowa this time of year, too.

That's quite a continuing honor for Coach Schipper.

coco,

Coach Schipper lives in Michigan now so I know its warmer in Mexico than it is there.

The football coaching position at Wartburg has been posted on the web-site
No one has called me for an interview.
They haven't returned my phone calls.
Do you think this looks bad for my chances?
