I wasn't aware, but I addressed the issue...

Show-Have you seen any post-baby pictures of Mrs.Show? Someone's been laying into the Twinkies a little hard. Needless to say she's not the same Mrs. Show in your pic.

BAD!! WH, I hope your wife doesn't have the same issue when little miss WH comes.... my Orange Clad co-worker tells me that you have a little Wartburg cheerleader on the way, arriving any day now.  ;D
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

The bags are packed and by the door. Getting a little antsy right now.

Hey Charlie,

Sorry I didn't believe you till I heard from Pat, but do you have anymore info, like how did this shot develop for Freddie?  Did uncle Marv pull strings, or was this purely on merit?  Either way it is very exciting to have another Kohawk in the NFL.  What does this news do for recruiting and does it open doors for Ashton or Neil?
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I don't think it opens up too many doors for the other two mentioned. Both are good RB's in the IIAC, but they aren't on the same level as Jackson was/is...

I was referring to Carey Bender, who is no longer with the Bills, but played on the development squad for three, I think, years.  He also played a season with the Scottish Claymores.
Charlie, correct me if I am wrong, no sarcasm intended. 8)

This is completely off the subject, but i was looking at the IIAC wrestling.  I noticed the conference duals were set.  My question is in regards to the absence of wartburg.  i am just curious as to why they are not taking part.  Do they have another meet on the docket?

SimpsonSID

For those who are not aware, the Iowa Conference features two sets of IIAC wrestling duals.

Wartburg will be hosting Central, Cornell, and Dubuque on Jan. 28.

Loras will host Buena Vista, Coe, Loras, Luther, and Simpson on Jan. 28.

tributetothemaninblack

thank you,  i was unaware of that information.

Walston Hoover

If Wartburg's not at the duals it just gives someone else a chance to win.
I haven't been around the conference relatively long, but is there anything remotely close to the dominance Wartburg has had in wrestling the last 10 years?

Freddy got his shot purely on merit, in my opinion, but as with most things, it helps to have a friend in the business. He had dominated the pass-oriented arena league he played in as a running back and was its MVP this past season. I'm not sure how many sniffs he's had (CFL included), but the Bills flew him in for a tryout a few months ago -- before Levy returned. I have no idea if it was related or not, but shortly after Levy was hired as GM I got the word that he was NFL Europe bound on contract with the Bills. I was personally hoping the Packers would give him a look when all their running backs went down this season. I'm just happy he's finally getting a shot. I agree with The Show. As much as I love Northern and Suckow, Freddy was special. His signing -- even if only for a stint in NFL Europe -- doesn't open doors for anyone. But it does open eyes to Coe and the IIAC, and that's good for everyone.

As for Carey Bender, coocoo is correct. He was anxious to see Suckow play when he returned for Homecoming and his induction into the Coe Hall of Fame. Neil is on pace to break Bender's career touchdown record, as hard as that is to believe. Who knows what the future may hold?

Unfortunately I was living in California during the Freddie years, and did not get to see him play.  I listened to a couple of games including the debacle at Central.  I did get to meet him at a Cedar Rapids Kernels game after his first season in the indoor league.  What is it about great running backs at Coe?  Two of the nicest and most sincere men I have ever met are Freddie and Carey.

COO COO FOR COE KOHAWKS!!!

Charlie Kohawk

I concur coocoo, but I'm not sure it applies just to "great running backs at Coe." The Coe football team is filled with upstanding young men. The same, I'm sure, is true throughout the IIAC (except perhaps of Dow Jones) and across the country. Maybe it has something to do with Division 3 and the character it takes to put academics first and play for the love of the game.
