I am a Des Moines resident, but have a son playing in the MIAC and Simpson is on the schedule this year.

Porta better bring his A game to Indianola, The Storm is on the rise. :o

I would have to agree with you CoCo after looking back at their season last year. To loose to a very tough Central team that Bethel has lost to the last 2 seasons, and to beat a pretty good Buena Vista team even though both were at home is impressive.  Bethel had its share of problems with Buena Vista at Storm Lake last year but wore them out in the end.  Bethel returns a large number of starters on both sides of the ball, and expectations this year are very high.

In my opinion, Simpson is again on the rise after a few rocky seasons. They cultivated some young talent in key skill positions. I'm not sure how graduation hurt the lineup. In looking at Simpson, and having seen Bethel the last few seasons, I would honestly say this would be a fairly even match up between two tough competitors. royalachilles, with the game being in Indianola this year, you should definitely make the trip.

So, what's the scoop on UST. Central has the Tommies on the schedule for the first game, September 2 this season.

UST is a screwy team.  They can look like champs one week and look like chumps the next.  They always play tough teams tough, and have a little trouble with the also rans.  Central is a good football team, and probably even a little better this year than last.  St Thomas will have there hands full there, as their game is not nearly as physical at Centrals style.  It will probably be the best tune up non conference game that St. Thomas has had in years.  If they get beat soundly by Central which I believe they will, it could really hurt their chances in the MIAC

Um, excuse me, mr. royalwithcheese.  The Tommies played the Kohawks the last two years and lost to them last year.  The Kohawks also beat Central last year.  So if the Kohawks pull off another win against Central this year I will expect a written retraction.  So I hope to here from you Nov. 5th.

Maybe the retraction should come now considering the Kohawks were the 23rd ranked team at the end of the year last year. ;)

Chill Coocoo -- I think royalachilles is saying that Central plays the type of ball that is characteristic for the MIAC. We match up with speed and physicality.

You're bragging about Coe's last two seasons? Didn't you guys get beat by Dubuque in 2004? You go!  ;D

Didn't you guys (Central) get beat by a team that lost to Dubuque the next week in 2004? :-*

DF1,

The Dutch don't match up well with the Johnnies.  History agrees!

Sorry CoooCooo, I am not sure how Coe came into the post, but they are obviously a very good football team as they finished an obvious 23rd in the country last year. My reference was to the Tommies, whom I saw play 3 times last year, and Central only once when they out muscled Bethel. If your thinking I am placing Coe in the grouping of an also ran, I am not.  The origional post was about Central playing UST in the non conference, and I will repeat that Central plays a totally different style of football than the Tommies.  I just think that the tommies will see a Bethel like attack when they play Central.  Very similar style.

royalachilles

I will say its nice to talk about football.  I have to come into the IIAC to hear about football, and the only things the MIAC clones are doing is talking about Hamms. Its too bad really, as some of the MIAC teams are really changing up some offensive schemes this year, and it would be good conversation.  I suppose they will come too a week prior to kickoff....  Pretty good though, needing a retraction on the first day of posting.

RA: Not much to chatter about when the Johnnies pounding Porta is a foregone conclusion.  Your Royals have become our redheaded stepchild.

Hey TDT, who is OUR Redheaded Stepchild.  You mean your redheaded stepchild, and remember, this is the IIAC site, I didn't hear anyone talking about your beloved Johnnies.  Well save that for the MIAC site when everybody stops using it for their social chatroom.

Hey, it's the boy in pink. How's Florida? It's the middle of the afternoon...shouldn't you be drunk on a beach somewhere? Yep, you're right -- Central hasn't been able to beat the Johnnies recently. Remind me again how that relates to the UST/Central conversation....  ;)
