Walston Hoover:

I'm not well versed on volleyball, but I assume future Knight middle-blocker Addison Faith will need some teammates.  The Peacock branch of the Warthog clan is supplying that help in the form of future Cedar Falls Tiger & Wartburg Knight, Karissa Lynn.  She was born July 6th.  I'm sure grandpa Warthog and uncle Little Warthog will be able to convince Karissa about the error of her father's way and get her enrolled at Wartburg as a member of the class of 2028.  At 7 lbs 11oz and 22 inches tall I assume she will have to find a home somewhere near the net.

Congratulations Warthog!!
Grandparents don't spoil their grandkids, their just very accomadating.
I'll call coach Walker and tell her to start working on finding a setter and a libero for 2028 and they should be set.

Congratulations to the Warthog family on your latest addition!

Mrs. Warthog must be thrilled to have another female in the group.

Congrats, Warthog -- do you have pictures of the future VB star to share with us?? (You know, if she is half as good as you know she will be, Central will try to recruit her.... the Dutch would love to steal Baby-Warthog and bring her into our winning volleyball tradition!) :)

These preseason polls don't mean anything, but it is nice, nonetheless, that the Iowa Conference is getting a little pre-season love in the press. (The only poll that matters is D3football.com, as they are the only ones that follow D3 ball consistently!)

In response to A-P having the most high school players in the NFL.....

The award (at least back in 2004 - most recent I could find!) goes to Long Beach Poly High School in  Long Beach, CA.  They had 6 NFL alums in 2004: Marques Anderson, OAK; Larry Croom, ARZ; Willie McGinest, NE; Samie Parker, KC; Omar Stoutmire, NYG; Brandon Whiting, SF.

I did a little follow up:  Anderson is currently a free agent, and I don't believe Whiting is in the league anymore.

There were 4 high schools that each had 5 NFL'ers in 2004.  Then came a list of 14 schools that each had 4 players, including Aplington Parkersburg.  A-P was by far the smallest - the next smallest community was Pascagoula, MS, with a 2000 population of 26,000.

And for all you A-P nuts, you're even leaving out probably the GREATEST athlete to ever come out of A-P, that is none other than the mighty Steve Schipper.   ;D

Walston Hoover

Ah yes, the almighty Steve, played TE if I remember correctly.
Jon Muller also played guard and FB for the Dutch in the mid 90's/
Coach Thomas is a huge fan of the old 36 power that Coach Schipper used to run.
Been a couple d-linemen the last couple years as well.
I've been working wing-T O-line camps all summer- Maybe Dillon will want to hire me on for the Rams. You may have a new team to cheer for Winger.

I was just reading an article that said a girl from down here in DM just signed to play softball with Upper Iowa Community College.

WH Stadium Area News - With the construction of the Wartburg-Waverly Wellness center the scoreboard @ WH stadium will be relocated to the NE corner of the stadium. ( Visitor side towards the street) So let's hope the weather is overcast on home game Saturday's , because it may be hard to read the scoreboard on bright sunny days.

FYI- locker rooms under home side seats are underway, time table is completion BEFORE camp opens.

Some walls at wellness center are above ground level.

The most recent set of construction photos on the Wartburg website also makes it look like they've repainted the lines on the WHS turf, specifically the endzones:

This will be the 6th season of use for WHS, so now is probably as good a time as any for a fresh coat of paint.

One of the construction photos of Wartburg's new facilities show four concrete pillars that will be the base of the relocated scoreboard.  It sort of reminds me of the monuments in centerfield at Yankee Stadium.  I think Wartburg should install brass plaques on the scoreboard pillars in honor of Dave D., Walston Hoover, Sport Knight and Lance Harbor.

I'll call Coach Willis about that first thing tomorrow morning.

The Dave D. plaque will read, "Damn it Devine, you call that defense?  You pull that crap Saturday and they'll beat you like a red-haired stepchild." ;D

W-HOOVER FIELD NEWS
I can confirm the field markings have been recently repainted. WITHOUT soccer lines. Sorry not to include that in last update. I wasn't a Comm Arts major like someone we know.

Walston Hoover

I'm glad they repainted. I don't think it would hurt to do that about every 4 years now. The W and the endzones were getting pretty faded.

All in the interest of completeness, my friend.  Grant Price taught me that.
