The IIAC is full of those kind of success stories.

Don't forget one other UNI to Coe College transfer who turned out O.K. for the Kohawk football team.

We had a running back who played back in the early nineties for Coe who spent his first year at UNI.

Carey Bender.

Our beloved Dave Devine ended up being alright at Wartburg after spending some time at UNI.
I believe Wartburg will add swimming when the new PEC is complete. Speaking of which, it is starting to take shape.
Everytime I see the plans for that I really wish they would have done it 10 years ago.

WOW, that place looks amazing!

I think that the entire IIAC owes Wartburg a debt of gratitude for pushing the rest of the conference to look at their own facilities, when Wartburg took the lead and built such a gem of a facility.

I don't know exactly what Coe plans to do, but the front page of the Gazette ran a story about Coe aquiring land to the east of campus.

Central is putting in their  new field

Loras finished theirs last year.

This will all make the IIAC look more attractive as a conference making the small private Iowa college a unique experience for student athletes from all over the country.

Way to go Wartburg!

BV reports Saturday.  Everyone else the same?

Floyd in Iowa City

I know Luther reports on Sunday.  This is always a very interesting time of the year for Division III as we all find out what schools actually recruited well and what the rosters look like.

It will be good to see the Iowa Conference preview on the conference website here in the next couple of weeks.

What's the status of Freddie Jackson? He had been listed 5th on the depth chart, now he's not listed at all, but his name is still on the roster.

Carlos Martinez was waived by the Falcons on Monday.

What's the status of Freddie Jackson?

This was dated 8/5/06:
Buffalo Bills Camp

As planned the coaching staff gave some of the younger players on the roster the opportunity to get some more reps than they have been receiving in training camp as they held a live offense-defense scrimmage of 16 plays.

"It was good," said Jauron. "If they're smart they know it was another opportunity for them to show what they have. Let's face it the time is limited and they're not on scholarship anymore. They've got to show something real fast that we can hang our hat on in the personnel meetings."

Running back Fred Jackson had nine carries during the series, but did not get a lot of running room. Despite having a slender build Jackson showed some power as he carried some would-be tacklers an extra yard or two at times.

"I was excited for it," said Jackson. "I was thinking about it all day. When coach told me last night that we were going to scrimmage I was thinking about it all night. I tried to come out here and help my cause."

"It was a good grind," said Jackson of the reps he received. "I think I was in every play out there. I was just trying to keep my head and know what I was supposed to do."

He was also mentioned in a report on 8/9/06, but only briefly.  It did indicate that he was getting more reps.

Also, all due respect to Coach Jauron, but Freddie was not on scholarship, he payed to play!

I think Wartburg reports Saturday. Everyone starts the same Saturday right? Why the difference in when the report. Is there a certain amount of practices they can have, or a certain amount of contact days before the first game?

Walston,
You'd better have that daughter plan on something rather than swimming @ "Be Orange" College. The pool will not have diving well so college level (as well as HS girls) swimming/diving  will be tough to host. Also  6 lanes is NCAA minimum but not ideal for team training/ meets.

If you need more info conact me.

Looks like the rumors are true.  Cornell has a picture on their athletic website of the new white helmets they'll be wearing this year.

Fred Jackson had three carries for 12 yards, including a long of 10, and one catch for five yards in his NFL debut for the Buffalo Bills against the Carolina Panthers.

Those helmets may grow on me, I hope so since right now I think they suck.

SK - Turn up the good, turn down the suck on those Cornell helmets.  Damn, those are bad.  Totally agreed, WH.  But who knows, they could grow on me, too.

CooCoo - All right, I'll admit it.  I'm a Wartburg die-hard pulling big-time for a former Kohawk to make it huge in the NFL.  I hope he makes it to the Week 1 roster.

I'm not positive on this, but I'm pretty sure Cornell wore white helmets with purple stripes when former Wartburg coach Rick Willis was playing for the Rams.  I'm not saying that fact makes them any less ugly.
