Sounds like Charlie took his Coe/CR "recruitment bit" straight from the Coe prospective student viewbook.

Crimson and Bold

Hello all.  First timer here, go easy.

Let me first say that this weekend is a HUGE weekend in college football, D-1 and DIII alike.  All of the major games will be watchable on national TV, but unfortunately none of the DIII games qualify as major. For this reason, I'm looking forward to sharing analysis with all of you about the games that we're not able to see.  That being said, these are my picks.

Wartburg - Simpson seems to be struggling this year and Wartburg hasn't struggled at all in recent years.

Cornell - new coach, new energy, new tradition?  I know that two wins in a season is hardly a tradition, but it could be the beginning.

Coe - gotta give the nod to the Kohawks.  Bobby is playing better and better each gamew and learning that it's his offense.  The defense is working hard to fill in holes that many people thought would be their achilles heel.  Plus I'm blinded by pride.

Central - this one seems to be the easiest pick.  Central is a very quality team that has already learned to come from behind and fight for 4 quarters and the season is only 2 weeks old.

Good luck to all!

Being a native Cedar Rapidian, I will chime in on Coe being the ghetto or in the ghetto.

Is Coe's field ghetto? YES. The answer is field Turf. I know Coe has been trying to purchase homes around the campus for expansion, so I assume in the next year or 2 they will address that need.

Is Coe in the Ghetto? Yes. In Cedar Rapids, there is only one area that is worse and it is not too far away.  I also know that the ghetto in CR is nothing like rough neighborhoods in big cities

As a "virgin" to post on this message board .. I find it rather entertaining and somewhat "educational".  Rather humorous at times.  It's much more disciplined than the IowaPrep message board - which is a breath of fresh air.

I'm planning on going to the Wartburg-Simpson football game this weekend - but never have been to the Simpson football field.  Is this field located on the Simpson campus?

My thanks in advance.

Storm-what?

Buckwheat- Yep, the field is almost smack in the middle. Kind of on the South Central/ South West side.  North C street goes right by it.

Having spent a few years in St. Louis before we moved to Iowa to raise the little warthogs, I find this conversation about the Coe ghetto quite amusing.  I personally find nothing around the Coe football field to be of any concern.  I actually have had some interesting conversations with the neighbors who sit on their front steps and watch the games.  One year the M-town/QuadCity Knight contingent was invited to move our tailgate from the curb to a lawn in the neighborhood.  Neighbors thought the CR police might object to our consumption of Coors Light and Jack Daniels on the street.  Any way, the house wasn't to fancy, but the people were nice and we left everything out when we went to the game.  We wouldn't have done this in the 'hoods around  St. Louis.

I may have  football withdraw this weekend with a schedule that won't allow any live football action tomorrow.  I'll take in Iowa State/Iowa on the tube at a bar in Decorah.  (Cyclones by 7)  Big night in M-town tonight.  Polished off Clinton to move to 3-0.  After a likely win at Davenport Central next week, there should be a good week 5 match up in town between 4-0 Bettendorf and 4-0 Muskies.  (Probably the kiss of death that I'm counting chickens before the eggs are hatched.) Several M-town seniors have Wartburg ties.  I would hope we have a good chance to get them to Wartburg next season.
