In my 3 years coaching at Luther, we only went to Wartburg once.  And the atmosphere was noticebly different from all of the other fields because of the proximity of everything.  It seemed to me that everything that was going on pre-game was very close to the field and I got the feel of an atmosphere similar to a tailgate at Lambeau or Soldier Field, but on a much smaller scale.  Looked like a lot of fun, though ;D

Hello, Dutchfan1.

I see you're doing your usual excellent job in the pick'ems.

Coco -- I do what I can to keep these boys in line! :)

Ash Park-I must not be very good at hiding my identity  :) We're doing pretty good over here, 2-0 with a big game against Trinity this weekend down in Texas.  We beat a good Hope team Saturday that played Central pretty tough.  Their defensive line was unreal, they had five sacks and four or five passes knocked down at the line.  I meant to ask any Central fans why Schuring didn't play against Hope, I didn't see him at all when I was watching the film.  My picks

Wartburg over Luther 24-7- Waverly is tough place to play and the Knights D is too tough
Coe over BV 35-10- Not much dropoff with TeKippe out
UD over Loras 14-13- The Spartans make it two years in a row
Cornell over Simpson 21-17- The Rams return to Ash Park to get the W

good luck to everyone this weekend

Charlie Kohawk

Congratulations Kohawks (14th), Dutch (15th) and Knights (22nd) for being ranked in the initial AFCA coaches poll.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Ramfan27,

Schuring had a bruised rib he got in the first half of the UST game.  He didn't play the second half of that game and sat out the Hope game.  You were correct about the Hope Dline they were huge.  They gave a good chase to our QB.  They kept the middle plugged up pretty well.

Fourth west region team listed.  Now, that is being highly thought of.

The IIAC looks like the second best conference in the nation by that poll.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Its good to see the conference getting some recognition nationally.  Congrats to the Kohawks, Dutch and yes, even to the Knights, on being ranked in the first coaches poll.  The IIAC is a tough conference and deserves the recognition ;D

I've got to give props (does anyone say that anymore??) to OAS/Adam Johnson for great coverage of Central and the Iowa Conference thus far this season. He's already done a couple of great articles, and this week's feature highlights the Central/BV game.

Storm-what?

Wartburg
Coe
UD
Simpson- They played 3 great quarters last week- this week they will come back fighting all four. I was seriously thinking we might sneak it out last week....until that 4th quarter bombshell. If Nelson had made that long field goal.....well... morale might have stayed a little higher as the game would have been tied. ..   *sigh*

Walston Hoover

OAS-
Surprised you didn't have Wartburg/Luther as one of your games to watch this week. Biggest game in the Iowa Conference no doubt this week and a huge rivalry to boot.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Da One

Picks for the week

Coe over BV (35-7) No brainer, Coe is the class of the IIAC (sorry Dutch)
UD over Loras (14-3) 2 in a row against the rival
Luther over Wartburg (28-17) Last years game was not as close as the score indicated (turnovers are a part of the game).  The Norse are battle tested, the Knights are not.
Simpson over Cornell (22-21) This one could go either way.  Simpson has fallen off and the Rams are getting better.

dbljay21,
Give me a call, we play Bartlett at Streamwood Friday.  Could be a good one.

Walston Hoover

Not as close as the score indicated????
Apparently you don't remember that Wartburg outgained Luther by almost 100 yards and had 2 fumbled hand-offs and a fumbled snap and the starting tailback didn't play after gaining 44 yards on his first 3 carries.
I don't like to make excuses for a loss but saying the game wasn't as close as the score indicated is assinine.
If by the norse being battle-tested you mean, "know how to lose close ballgames" then yes, you are correct, they are indeed battle-tested.
Here's to another 15 years of dominance by the Knights

Little bit of venom coming out of Walston there, now I am SURE its Luther-Wartburg weekend.  And it sounds like you are making some excuses for last year.

The Norse have played a very good St. Olaf team, who will probably win the MIAC, and played a very tough football game against Coe, the 14th ranked team in the nation.  That is battle-tested.  The Knights have played Monmouth and Simpson, not quite the same competition as St. Olaf and Coe.  On to my picks,

Coe over BV by 24
UD over Loras by 10
Simpson over Cornell by 3
Luther over Wartburg by 7 in what would be considered an upset
Go Norse!!!

Walston Hoover

Not excuses for the loss, but reasons why the assertion that the "game was not as close as the score indicated" are false.
I realized I was beginning to sound a little like a Hawk fan.
No doubt plenty of venom here. It always pissed me off how every year it was always Luther's year when we played them, always Hefty or the other guy ahead of him having quotes in the paper about how it was going to be a good game. I think I was part of wins 9-12 in the series, and only one was close.
I really hope we show that last year was an anomaly.
