Picks....

BV over Cornell   21-17.  Time to get a win Beavers

Coe 20 Simpson 3.  The Storm need to get something rolling offensively.

Luther beats UD in a shootout 34-31.  Wanted to pick the Spartans here but decided against it.

Game of the Week.....
Not too many posters picking the Knights this week.  I'm sure that's just fine with them.  Wartburg continues their mastery in Pella winning 17-10 in a defensive battle, exactly the way the game should be.  The Knights special teams will be much improved from last year's debacle.  Good luck to all this week.

Picks for the Week:

Cornell over BV by 3 at the Train Station.  Both teams need a W, but Cornell gets an emotional lift at home with the return of Mills and Newmeister.

Coe proves why they are the team to beat against Loras.  28-7 victory at the Mudbowl.

Luther over an athletic UD squad 42-28 in a shootout.

Game of the Week--Central over Wartburg in Pella.  The Dutch win a close game at home 21-17 against a good Wartburg team.

Ohio State wins at Kinnick.  The Hawkeye defense just isn't fast enough to match-up with Ginn Jr. and Troy Smith.  I hope I am wrong, but I just can't see the Hawks winning this one :(

knightlife06 - Coe plays Loras this week, but I doubt that changes your pick.

Picks for the week:

This week's games are easily the hardest to pick thus far.  There are some very intriguing matchups.

BV over Cornell by a touch.  The BV defense is for real... except the Kohawk offense is more for real.

Coe by 10 over Loras - Coe's Homecoming... easy choice.

Luther over UD by 3 - Wanted to pick UD here, but as much talent as they have, I think they're just as undisciplined.  Assignment football wins for Luther.

Wartburg over Central by 4.  I think the Wartburg defense will exploit the Central O Line and be in the backfield all day.  Plus I want Coe to be the 1st team to beat Wartburg this year.

Good luck to everyone.  Especially the Hawkeyes; they'll need it.

First of all, here's something that hit me today.  Does anyone else think it's kind of weird that no IIAC rivalries have a strange trophy like Floyd of Rosedale or the Little Brown Jug, etc?  There's some real potential in some of the IIAC rivalries:  Wartburg and Luther could play for Martin Luther's hammer, Dubuque and Loras could play for a big golden key (DBQ is the "Key City"), Coe and Cornell could come up with something to symbolize Linn County or Highway 30.  I think this needs to happen.

On to the picks:
BV-Cornell:  Not sure which way to go here.  I picked Cornell last week and it burned me.  I think their injuries are question marks on offense, and I like the fact that BV has an experienced QB.  I'll take the Beavers by 8.

Dubuque-Luther:  Luther defense will probably be tested here.  Luther's D is decent, but if the offense can't stay on the field longer than last week, it'll be a long day for the Norse.  I'll take Luther by 4.

Loras-Coe:  Duh.  Coe by 17.

Wartburg-Central:  This is the game of the week and a really tough pick for me.  While nobody has played in Pella than Wartburg lately, I'm still not completely sold on Wartburg.  Knights made a few mistakes last week that they were able to overcome to beat Luther.  I think that Central makes some of those missteps hurt more than the Norse did.  That said, this Wartburg defense is starting to get its swagger back.  The key is whether Wartburg can stay balanced on offense and keep the Dutch guessing.  In the end, I'm just not sure Wartburg's good enough up front to stop Schuring.  (As much as it pains me)  I'll take Central in a 20-17 game.

I like the idea of a rivalry trophy.
I know Cornell sits along the Lincoln Highway but I'm not sure what that would have to do with Coe. ???
We do boast that it's the longest running rivalry west of the Mississippi. Maybe we could go off of that.

Pella, Iowa -- Home of Central College, Dutch letters, wooden shoes and EarthPark. Good luck with that one! ::)
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Actually, the Lincoln Highway Association held its annual convention at Coe over the summer.

Walston Hoover

BV, Coe, Luther (in a tight game, the loser of this game wins 1 game the rest of the year)
In a defensive battle that lasts less than 2 hours due to 2 teams wanting to run the football and the new clock rules, the Knights win 10-0.
No bias there at all. Yeah, right, but I think the Knights have a good shot.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Here on my picks

BV/Cornell-- BV

UD/Luther-- UD, they are a lot better then everyone thinks

Loras/Coe-- Coe, I would love to say Loras, but after seeing Coe against Aurora I think Coe has too many weapons to stop, their D is the weak link, and its not very weak at all. The offense is just plain lethal. (Prove me wrong Duhawks!)

Wartburg/Central-- If this was in WaveTown I would go with the Knights, but its not, so I am putting on my wooden shoes. (I hope I am wrong though)
