Gonna throw in my picks for the week since I can't wait to get to this Saturday after a rough weekend.

Central over Luther - 24-10

Coe over Dubuque - 42-30

Loras over Cornell - 28-7

Simpson over BV 17-10

Wartburg over Augsburg - 28-7

Comments on last weeks games......

Tough one, Loras really shut down our main weapons in Suckow and Northern.  Loras has a very stingy 'D'.  A couple of questionable calls hurting both Loras and Coe!  Also, not much of a turnout for a nationally ranked team's homecoming!

Storm-what?

OK, it's not a volleyball board, but it's one of the few things we can brag on right now! I definitely Simpson should be in those rankings! Undefeated in the coference, wins over Central and Wartburg in straight games! I look forward to the Sc/Coe matchup tomorrow night for official bragging rights!

Ok football- wow! Coe loses and Luther lose and BV wins! What's a person to say? Didn't get a chance to post my picks before kickoff this week, turns out maybe that was a good thing!

So, now if Simpson just wins out the season, they will win the conference  ;)

OK, one game at a time. SC has a heck of a great track record going against BV, here's hoping we keep it going. I think SC will still surpsise some foes this year. Defense is tough and offense is better every week!

Congrats to UD and Loras on the big wins this week. It is certainly true every week is a challenge this year!

Picks this week:
Central (but I think UD will battle), Coe, Loras, Simpson, Wartburg.

Stormtruper,

Not sure where your post is going.  How is UD going to win the battle with Central.  They don't play this week.  The Dutch are playing Luther this weekend.  Do you want to change your picks?

Congrats to Loras for what turns out were two big wins in a row!  Also to the Dutch for a classic slugfest on Saturday!

Congrats to Dubuque for putting on the most explosive performance I have seen in person from an Iowa Conference opponent in a long time!  I knew that the Spartan Offense would be really tough to defend, but I was hoping that the Luther Defense would force some turnovers and that the Spartans might make some mistakes on their own as they historically are prone to do.  Dubuque only turned it over once, and that was a forced fumble when the QB was hit on the blind side by a Luther DB.  Much like Ohio State, the Spartans played a very clean game on Saturday.

The Norse might be kicking themselves for punting to Belleus and kicking off to him as well.  Dubuque was squibbing the ball to Luther most of the game after a couple nice returns, yet the Norse kicked off to Belleus even after he had caught a long TD pass and returned a punt for a TD. ???

A punt return for a TD, a kick return for a TD, a long catch on offense for a TD, and an interception for the only Luther turnover might make ex-Iowa Hawkeye Walner Belleus the National Player of the Week for Division III.

Augsburg (plays Wartburg this week) lost again this past Saturday to fall to 0-4, but the Auggies played perhaps their best game of the year in losing to Concordia in overtime, 34-28.  The Auggies gave up a lot of rushing yards to the Cobbers, but they were much more competitive than in losses to St. John's (60-0) or St. Olaf (68-17).

Concordia is only now 1-3 after the win.  Must be tough for them given their tradition and recent success.

St. Olaf (beat Luther) moved to 5-0 after beating Gustavus on Saturday, 41-13.  They play St. John's this week in what could be the contest that decides the MIAC championship.  I always hate to say that so early in the season since you never know what could happen down the road.

Bethel (beat B.V. and Simpson) bounced back from the Carleton loss last week to beat St. Thomas (lost to Central, beat Loras), 17-7.

Storm-what?

Thanks Dutchfan. I posted that in the wrong place, I think UD WILL battle, but against Coe, not Central! But my picks remain the same.

Here is some advice for the rest of the IIAC when they play Central.  Don't try too hard to stop them until they get down into long field goal range.  If you make them punt, you will start inside your 5.

Our punter is a real weapon.  He did that last year all the time.  He is truly a great punter.  I can not believe that he only started punting last year.  He can kick long ones but his kicking to a spot or the out of bounds is truly a gift.  He does such a great job.

Is the Central president still the punt team coach?

DutchFan2004

Yes,

President Roe is still coaching the punters and kickers.

Pretty quiet day in here today.  Everyone tired?

CooCoo I don't know much about IIAC Volleyball but it is nice to have any IIAC school getting noticed.  If the Storm did beat both Central and Wartburg have they had many loses to offset the big wins.  Again I don't know much about volleyball.

I hope you noticed that Central was ranked 9th in volleyball.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

DutchFan2004

CooCoo,

Yes I did.  I know that they have been pretty storng on the vball scene for many years.  It is good to see them doing well.  It is hard to follow all the sports at the same college.  So many going on.  I do try and see what they are doing.  I think it speaks well of the type of kids we are growing and recruiting here in Iowa.  NOt only the kids but the quality of coaching that the IIAC has attracted.

Storm-what?

V-ball: The Storm are undefeated in the conference(3-0), 13-6 overall. Can't speak to whom they have lost to. Tonight should be a good matchup with Coe. Maybe a W for the Storm will get them rated.... if not that's OK too!

Coe plays Dubuque tonight and Simpson plays Buena Vista.  Conference Volleyball is following a pretty same schedule as Football from week to week.
