I believe every level but d3 has standards. I don't believe there are any conference standards, just those put out by each institution.
I believe though if you are ineligible at one level, you can't transfer anywhere and play right away, so I assume there was a juco or some other school (I believe he showed up at Graceland or Iowa Wesleyan, I don't know which) that he went to to get his grades up. UD must be all about 3rd and 4th chances. I do know this.....the guy is a hell of a football player.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

DutchFan2004

There is no doubt he is a great player.  I am not saying that UD is doing anything illegal either.  I just wondered what the standards were.  I am sure that UD is on the up and up.  The article just hit me funny that he was at UD because his grades were not good enough for Iowa that is all I was saying.

Nice win Kohawks! Dubuque is dangerous -- Central beware. I give the Spartans credit, but they'll never get respect until they drop that Harry High School business on the sidelines. Loved it, loved it, loved it when the Coe fans (who outnumbered the Spartan faithful) gave it right back to them!

What's Harry High School business?

I guess I'm showing my out-of-state non-sophistication.

I like the Walston lines ... should help me catch SportsKnight for the overall lead (or not).

I'm coming to town on the 21st.

Need recommendations on where to go/eat/stay in the rough-and-tumble ghetto of Cedar Rapids, best way to get to Cornell from Coe (looks easy on the map, parking might be the biggest problem) and which place has the better pre-game, although I'll be flying into the CR with not a lot of time to spare before kickoff.

Come onnnn no delays!

K-Mack,
I've alerted the CR Convention and Visitor's Bureau of your visit. Get ready for the crimson carpet. Seriously, for such an august visitor as yourself, I might be able to arrange for you to stay in the alumni house at Coe. For that matter, you could crash at my place too, but my neighborhood is far more ghetto-like than Coe's. Send me an e-mail if any of this interests you.

I'd suggest you go to Cornell first -- you should be able to get the flavor of that game in the first half, while Wartburg and Coe will more likely play to the end, if ya know what I mean. Besides, there are far more postgame options in Cedar Rapids than Mount Vernon. When you leave the airport, shoot out Highway 30 to Mount Vernon then shoot back on Mount Vernon Road, which runs alongside Ash Park (watch out for fast-moving trains though).

As for the "Harry High School Business," it's players on the sidelines jumping and whoop whooping a chant about something unitelligible throughout the game. Perhaps Bush League would have been a better description, but that, to me, implies a certain level of effectiveness. Dubuque's behavior was not effective, as the final score showed.

Can you arrange for the Coe game to start about 8-10 minutes late and have a long halftime? :)

Now that's a tall order! I'll need CooCoo's help. Pat, are you coming too?

No, sorry, won't be making this trip. My new job needs me around.

Just hire a really long anthem singer. Be slow to start the clock countdown before the game. Etc.

Hey Charlie, Keith and Pat,
I bet I could get the game to start late.  Just ask Jean Johnson about my ability to disrupt things at Coe.  However, I will not be in attendance as my new endeavor is taking me out of town that weekend. Which is probably for the best since they just let me back into all Coe buildings.

Keith, I would take up Charlie on a room in the alumni house.  Very nice accomodations.
If you are staying saturday night I would love to get a chance to meet you.  I will be back in town about 5-6 that night.  Maybe I could catch up with you and Charlie at Paddy's or Mahoney's.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

K-mack,

Too bad you aren't coming into town by Thursday night... I could have you meet the guys and I out at wings at 3rd on 1st.  $3 all you can eat!  As for restaurants, it all depends on what suits your fancy that day.  Tomasso's in Marion is my favorite pizza place around and the Genghis Grill out by Westdale is great!  If you are into the Japanese steakhouse scene, Kaji up on Old Marion Rd. is a treat.

As for bars, I'd watch out for CR HeadHunters (the rugby club) if you choose any Irish Pub as your watering hole for the evening.  I live with a couple of those guys, and the entire group tends to get a little bit less than in control!

Coming from Cornell to Coe, Charlie's directions will suffice.  Once you get past the Hy-Vee on Mt. Vernon, watch out for trains AND traffic though!  If you are looking for decent places to stay, I only have experience with the motels up on Collins Rd.  If Charlie recommends the alumni house, tho, I'd have to go with his opinion.

Keep me posted on the happenings, and I'll make sure to send the HeadHunters your way wherever you end up to show you a real ghetto-great time!

I would agree with Charlie that you might want to attend the Cornell-Central game first then head over to Clark Field for the Coe-Wartburg game.  I think it will great to have you at both Iowa Conference games.

NorseFan

Had high hopes for Luther coming into this season.  I really hope they can finish the season strong rather than leave an extremely sour taste in their mouth for next year.  They need to turn the corner.  Hefty is definately the guy for the job.  Are guys buying into the system and really dedicating themselves?  I hope so.  Is Luther not getting the quality of athletes that other IIAC schools are?  I don't know.  I live in Wisconsin so it is hard to follow the high school career of some of these guys.
Anyway, picks for the week are as follows:

Coe over Simpson in a dominant fashion.

Central over UD but UD's offense will be the toughest test of the season for the mighty Dutch.

Wartburg over Loras

Luther will get this win over BV and they are in desparate need of it.  Remember the day several years ago when the D had to carry the Norse?  The tables have turned, the offense is now the leading unit.  Hopefully the D can turn it around and the offense can limit mistakes and finish drives.

Good luck to the IIAC this weekend.  Hopefully all good, exciting, and injury free games.

We have a game at Gopher College that day.  We won't be in town until 6:00 or 7:00 p.m.

Dominate on THREE!

Who do you live with D, and don't tell me it's shep.

Not Shep, but just as much of a knucklehead... or should I say JUGHEAD!!!  You got it... I'm the new roommate of the Word man and Royce's!

I'm giving some serious thought to heading to the Wartburg-Coe game as well.  Depending on what happens this week (and I'm not expecting any surprises), but it should be a good one.

I'd echo most of the sentiments already mentioned about going to the Cornell game first, how to get to Coe, etc.  My knowledge of the CR post-game scene isn't as extensive as some around here, but if you're looking for an Irish-type place, I've never had a bad time at Dublin City on 2nd Ave.  Just make sure you walk in the correct bar in that neighborhood, because there's an "alternative lifestyle" bar about a block away (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Picks coming sometime tomorrow or Friday.
