Although I rarely post nor have the time with three young kids and a working wife, I really enjoy this message board and read it all the time.   It really keeps me up to date in the IIAC.  Thanks to all who participate.  After graduation it is hard to stay up on all the schools and scoops of the conference but I will say you guys keep me informed.   Although not connected at all times I do have some insiders that have feed me some good information from time to time, especially on Wartburg, Central and Coe.

Wartburg over Loras 24-7 – Wartburg's defense is too fast for them and more disciplined than Coe's.   They will be better at stopping McCarron in the running game forcing the Loras QB to throw.  Loras exposed Coe's poor pass defense to set up the run.  Wartburg has a much better secondary.  Check the stat's – Coe is 8th in the IIAC in pass defense.  Should be a great game next week in Cedar Rapids.

Central over Dubuque 28-27 in OT – As Crimson and Bold mentioned, take your heart pills Central fans.  They have more than just Belleus. These guys from Dubuque are for real and if you give their defense any confidence they will just play better as the game goes on.  Central will find a way to win with good special teams play and just enough defense.  Central could get beat if their stagnant offense does not get rolling.  They will need to improve this part of their team to win the rest of their games and outscore Coe on Nov 4th.

Coe over Simpson 26-20 – This game will be closer then most of you think as Simpson is better than their 1-4 record.  If Simpson offense can exploit Coe's defense which has trouble against the pass and were ripped by Loras in the running game, they will put pressure on the conference's top scoring offense to score.    Simpson leads the league in sacks and Coe has given up 14 in just 6 games.  Very uncharacteristic of the Kohawks.

Luther over BV – 38-21 – Luther finally gets a win.  Who would have thought that the Norse would be 1-5 at this point and only be playing for pride at this point in the season.  Maybe they need to evaluate their staff and the way they recruit.  All we have heard about for the past three years is how they are rebuilding this program.  It appears they are going backwards.

qbdriver,
Speaking as a former coach with the Norse...I worked with the most of the members of the current staff and I can say for sure that they are an excellent staff.  As far as recruiting, Luther has between 90 and 100 guys on the roster every year and bring in 30-40 freshman a year.  There isn't a problem with retention of players because everybody plays, either on Saturday or on Monday with the JV.  And if you look at the top players from Hefty's tenure, the Norse start a lot of freshman and sophomores who continue to develop and produce as seniors (Pearson, Scheetz, Wigle, Stavast currently and recent graduates Rolland, Daubendiek, McDonald and Shanahan.  And throw Sherden in even though he is injured this year).  I believe the Norse have the right people on the staff and are recruiting the right people to win.  Rebuilding a program as bad as Luther was doesn't happen in one or two seasons.  And the high levels of competition in the IIAC, both during the season and in the off-season.
Go Norse!!!

Picks for Saturday

Coe 31 Simpson 10 - Coe is too much for this Storm Squad.  I can't imagine Niemann being their much longer.  Hasn't done enough.

Central 21 Dubuque 14 - Since McMartin has been at Central they haven't lost many games they were favored in.  The defensive coodinator is a heck of a coach and will limit the Spartan offense.

Luther 28 BV 17 - I just think the Luther offense will be too much for the Beavers.  Although I think this game will be pretty close.

Knights 24 Loras 10 - The defense will continue to play well.  Loras will come out and do some crazy things like they always do against the Knights.  After the hoopla the Knights will settle in and play good football on Homecoming.  Go Knights!

THIS IS...OUR HOUSE!  WHOSE HOUSE?!...OUR HOUSE!  WE RULE....OUR HOUSE!!

I have been reading on college football on various sites and after doing so I decided to post my personal mid-season awards and all-conference teams.  Being fairly new to this site, I don't know if this has been done before.  If not, hopefully this starts a trend.  I am also doing this to get responses so post back.

Offensive Player of the Year - Ashton Northern - Coe
He is much less heralded than Suckow, but he is the best back in the conference and he is showing it this year.
Defensive Player of the Year - Andrew Lehn - Central
He has been the best defensive player on the best team thus far so he gets my nod here.
Special Teams Player of the Year - Brant VanMeer - Central
Kills opponents by pinning them in their own end and has the best net yardage per kick in the conference.
Coach of the Year - Osterberger - Loras
The Duhawks are atop the standings at this point and no one thought that they would be there.
Suprise Team - Loras
See the Coach of the Year
Disappointing Team - Luther
Predicted to finish 4th but a tough loss to Coe to start the season hurt them a lot.
Team to Watch For - Luther
Have already played 3 of the top 4 teams
Team that Might Fall - Loras
Have Central, Wartburg and Luther still on the schedule.
Games to Watch - Dubuque @ Central, Loras @ Wartburg, Wartburg @ Coe
Central @ Coe - the last two should decide the conference
Suprise Player - Robert DeMoulin - Coe
Stepped up big after the Kohawks lose a pre-season All-America.  He is 8th in the country in Pass Efficiency.
Disappointing Player - Nate Newmeister - Cornell
Started fast, but injuries have slowed him tremendously.  Not indication of his skill just bad luck.
My Pre-Season All-Conference Team will be posted on Monday.

On the scoreboard earlier, BV was up 10-7 or something.

I forgot to do my picks. Can I get the Walston line favorites or something?
