Spurrier

warty,

should be a pretty good game. . .the spartans have talent on offense, but turnovers have hurt them this year. . .poor tackling killed them against loras and central. . .
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

Former Ram

I don't think it was any type of injury situation with the Wartburg QB.  I think they were just tired of not getting anything out of their passing game.  After the stats that Yordi put up, I think you can probably expect him to be under center next week against Cornell as well.  Pretty impressive job by a young QB in his first college experience against a tough BV defense up by the lake.

The Show

I'll take your word for it since none of the Wartburg faithful seem to know.

Before too long, you guys are going to have to come up with a tie-breaker for WH and I....

Great job Dutch -- you guys are on fire this season! Keep your focus through the rest of the season, and look forward to some much-deserved playoff action!

Dutch, you musta missed my picks.  Back on page 218.

I heard from a teammate that Bauder took a shot to the head on the INT, nothing cheap or illegal or anything like that.  I was surprised to see the coaching staff bypass Kuennen and go straight to Yordi.  I've heard all along that Yordi was the best natural QB of the 3 just didn't know the offense well enough yet.  I guess that has changed quite a bit.
THIS IS...OUR HOUSE!  WHOSE HOUSE?!...OUR HOUSE!  WE RULE....OUR HOUSE!!

Yordi looked pretty darn good.  Had a nice little run at the end that sunk my Beavers (not quite sure how a slow, white QB does that to you but ya know).  Looks like he has a pretty live arm but was fairly inaccurate at times.  Boy oh boy if only Wade woulda picked off that floater that Yordi threw to that slow #25 guy or whoever he was.  But, the Knights played a pretty good game.  BV just doesn't have that killer instinct yet.  Up on Coe, get smashed, up on Wartburg, let one slip by.  My Beavs are looking pretty good, but man they have to learn how to play with the lead.  Congrats to the Knights on a good win on an absolutely beautiful day at J. Leslie Rollins.

I really like the B.V. QB, but the Beavers struggle to protect him or run the ball consistently.  That does not bode well for playing the Wartburg Defense.

B.V. did play run defense better in person than at least 2 or 3 other IIAC opponents that I have seen this year.

Wow, sounds like the defense kept the Beavers in the game even though Hammes ended up having a good game.  B.V. only ran for 111 as a team, but that has to be one of the better running games for the Beavers this year.

It seems like there have been more OT games than usual for the IIAC this year.

Will Wartburg start the new QB again this week against Cornell?  With the struggles that the Rams are having as of late, it might be a good opponent to see if the young QB is the best option if Wartburg indeed makes the playoffs.

Did any Wartburg members of the board go to the game?

What was the Central over Luther streak?  Wasn't it in the 30's??  My dad played ball for Luther back in the late 60's and their only losses came to the Dutch and one or two others.

I posted the following during the week of Luther-Central:

Central leads in the Luther series all time, 45-21-1, but that does not do justice to how the Dutch have owned the Norse since 1972.  The Dutch are 31-3 over the last 34 with Luther wins coming in 1976, 1980, and 2004.

Luther won 10 of 11 from the late 1940s through the early 1960s, but that changed with the hiring of Ron Schipper.  Luther still beat Schipper three times in a row from 1969-71, but it ended after that.

Congrats to the Norse for winning a conference game after all that has gone on this year.  It was pretty good day in that the seniors won their last home game, the Hawks found a way to win, and although I am not a big cross country fan, Luther won both the men's and women's races for their 28th and 10th conference titles respectively.  Wartburg had won the previous 8 men's titles, so the Norse men winning their 28th was more news worthy than the women winning their 10th.

My main appreciation of Luther Cross Country back when I was in school was that Kent Finanger was an all-American in football and basketball back in the 1950s and he did a great job running a dominant cross program from the late 1960s to the mid-1990s.  He was also the head basketball coach for a while and also assisted in football and baseball.  He is a good man and is probably one of the more positive people I have ever met.

For the 3rd game this year, the Norse Offense ran the ball 50 times or more.  They are now 2-1 in those games with the loss being in overtime to Central.  The Norse are averaging 44 carries per game and 39 passes on the year.

The Central-Coe game this week should be a fun one to watch.  Maybe I can catch the 2nd half of it this week on the way back from the Iowa game.

Charlie, CooCoo, I'm assuming you guys will be at the big game on Saturday in Cedar Rapids....do you two tailgate before the game? If so, mind if I stop by your tailgate? (I promise to show up bearing gifts of beer!)  :)

Go Dutch!

K-Mack,

I have a question about region games.  What defines a regional game.  Looking at the QOWI it says that UWW is 7-0 in region games 8-0 overall.  I know AP is not in D-3 so that makes one non region game.  But how does the MHB game qualify as a region game.

The definition expanded this season:

You'd better bring more than just a gift of beer to the tailgate... with that neighborhood, you might want to bring your standard issue Coe Kohawk flak jacket!!!  If the weather takes a turn for the nasty on Saturday, there's always room (and warming drinks) straight east of Coe at the corner of Bever Ave. and 31st St. SE!

Charlie and CooCoo... you all know it's about the love... I have to drive through "that part" of CR every day on my way to work.

Nice to see that Yordi is doing well at Wartburg. I knew that kid would be a good IIAC player. By the way when I watched Yordi play high school I wouldn't have put him in the slow category, the kid is an athlete and will make plays. Anyway, congrats to Wartburg on the win and congrats to Yordi on his debut.

New to the board and am here to say hello.  I wish I had known about this board earlier.  I have been posting on bigfootball.com re: the Iowa Conference with nobody on their replying.  I have been doing predictions as well and have gone 36-9 on the year overall...not sure what my record is for just the in conference games, I will have to look that up.  Hello to all and I will be sure to check this board regularly.
