What is the deal with the Simpson press release always talking up their non-shutout streak. Is it that big of deal?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Storm-what?

LOL, I don't know why the Simpson release always says that! I thought the same thing! Wow, great, we are 2-6 but at least we aren't shut out......

Was it CHarlie Kowak or Coocoo- Crimson and gold? You must be cheering for the Storm then as well?? :)

I agree that Coe isn't in the "ghetto."  But, as far as the other IIAC schools go, it probably has one of the most industrial areas. One dorm overlooks I-380 and the smog of Quaker Oats saturates campus on given days. That being said, they seem to have no problem recruiting right now, so students must not care that much. I rank Coe near the top of the conference in academics, but near the bottom in location.

Still... growing up in the ghetto (unless it was CRAZY like mine), you might want to wear a flak jacket.  My skin evolved into a sortof flak jacket (or fat jacket... WH and Alfie have to make the call again).  Either way... bullets bounce off this East Waterloo native!!

You are not the only EWlo native on here, there is at least Alfie & myself, although I am sure the two latter are from a much earlier time than you. It is still amazing that the Trojans could have the string of losses like they did. I still only remember the banner years. ( Iwas actually witness to every single game of their win streak & then some).

THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!

* Flashback *
It was a boring Thursday afternoon in Mid-September when someone came up with the idea of word associations for the conference stadiums. With out putting much thought into it, I came up with my list. On that list I referred to Coe's beloved stadium as "ghetto."

From that one tiny incident an entire chat room has focused a ridiculous amount of time and energy on the status of Coe's surroundings. Why hasn't anyone from BV came out with guns blazing because their stadium was referred to as a "tundra" or how come no one from Simpson is up in arms for the term "cat litter" as a description of theirs?

I was born and raised in CR and now live in the 3rd largest city in the US. I and I think everyone on here knows that Coe College is not in the ghetto. However, when comparing Coe's stadium to the picturesque views of Storm Lake, or the charm of Simpson College, there is certainly a difference, and again, I think everyone on here knows that.

So looking back on that day that changed D3football.com, this chat room and the Iowa Conference forever...I wish I could take back my one-word association of Coe's stadium and just call it what it is. A LANDFILL IN THE MIDDLE OF A CITY. Thank you.

That's because BV is a frozen tundra, especially after mid October.  There's not usually a warm breeze coming off of the lake!

But the true frozen tundra is out at the practice fields.  I can honestly say I don't miss that place...

Wartknight... did you attend East High through the "mythical" years?  If so, you more than likely know my dad and uncles.  Did you know the 3 brothers from Cutler St. (Frank '69, Ken '71 and Scott '73 (I think))?  They've told me stories of the glory days... I'm just glad that I never had to endure an 0-fer season while I graced the Halls of Troy.  Aldrich has them looking in the right direction again, at least... the movement will follow!

FYI, tundra is, by definition, frozen. Frozen tundra is rudundant.
4 IIAC football championships

Trust me, if you've ever practiced up there in November, it deserves all the redundancy you can throw at it.

WH - Come on, the SID at Simpson has to put the "McCarney" spin on things when the season is a total loss. Well, I guess it wouldn't be a total loss if we would beat Central next week...okay, so it's a total loss.

Some more McCarney-isms Simpson style:

We haven't lost to St. John's since 1996
We have a winning record against Northern Iowa (9-6-3)
We haven't lost to Mt. Union since 1997
We haven't lost to UD in 19 years...strike that.
We haven't had a losing season during the Niemann era....oops. We better update that. Never mind.

luvd3football

Maybe McCarney and Niemann have something else in common - will they BOTH be looking for jobs after the season is over??

sc_stormchaser

I don't know about McCarney, but I bet Niemann will be back, unless he happens to leave on his own. They had a big freshman class...QB and three o-lineman are freshman. New offensive coordinator. It will take some time. Niemann has the 2003 playoff appearance in his back packet. He can win (with Williams players), let's hope he win with his players.

I remember when I got an e-mail from the SID at Simpson defending the use of their turf. Boy, it sure did come out of nowhere... I still laugh when I think about it

Confused, you got an email from him, too? I thought I was the only one.

I thought it was that bad blood between Simpson/Central fans talking....
