The Show

BV over UD - BV has its own big play ability and a kicker good enough to kick away from Belleus.
Wartburg over Cornell - Run, Run, Run, TD Knights.
Central over Coe - Central plays well in the mud...
Simpson over Loras - Ostey has yet to beat Simpson as a head coach?

Show- sort of interesting...BV beat Simpson the year before he was promoted to head coach ('99) and the year after he left (obviously this year). Simpson hasn't lost to Loras since '93, but you can throw historical stats out the window with this year's team. But I still drink the Storm Kool-Aid, Simpson 20 - Loras 14.

Might as well get the picks in.  Not sure what else to do with my Friday night now that the high school regular season is over...

BV @ Dubuque:  BV gave the Knights a hell of a fight last week.  But my gut tells me that they'll come out flat after the long bus ride from Storm Lake to the Key City.  UD 28, BV 23

Loras @ Simpson:  Odd 12:00 start time for this one.  Anyone know why?  Anyone care?  This would have been a great game a decade ago, but not in 2006.  Loras 24, Simpson 17

Cornell @ Wartburg:  Just because Willis won't be on the sideline for this showdown with the Rams, don't think he'll be cheering for his alma mater.  Wartburg 34, Cornell 6

Central @ Coe:  Someone's already mentioned the field conditions, and with a chance of rain overnight and into tomorrow, I think a sloppy field favors the Dutch.  Don't expect a lot of scoring, just some happy Dutch in a city full of czechs.  Central 14, Coe 10

Sportsknight,

Simpson is hosting a soccer tourney.  Imagine that giving way to soccer that just isn't right.

Rumor is that Cornell is going to be missing quite a few guys for tomorrows contest. I don't want to name anyone, but as far as injuries go they will be without 4 maybe 5 starters. I know they have some other guys that are sick, but I haven't heard whether they are playing or not. Also one of their players is a father as of this morning so congrats to him. Basically things are not going to get much easier for this team so someone has to step up.

Is this good?

"Wartburg has now recorded seven-or-more wins in 14 consecutive seasons. The Orange and Black sport a 121-25 record in the span, good for a winning percentage of .828
The Knights sport a 28-3 record in Walston-Hoover Stadium since it opened in 2001, good for a winning percentage of .903"   Nice stat from WB SID Mark Adkins..

I know that from 98-00', you can add another 15-1  to that mark..  so that would be 43-4 for WB @ home since 98'
Not nearly enough playoff victories in that span for the knights, but it has gotten better in the last few years..

curious as to what their home record was from 92-97 when they had like 10 coaches?

dutchfan, let's hear some of the ridiculous stats from central on their wins/streaks

Almost forgot to post my picks this week:

UD over BV 35-17.  UD has another breakout game.

Loras over Simpson 27-20.  Simpson is more inconsistent than Loras.

Wartburg destroys Cornell 41-10.  Knights dominate all phases of the game.

Central over Coe 16-10 in overtime.  Sloppy conditions slow down the speedy Kohawks.

With no Luther game this weekend, its a good time to go visit the HS team in the second round of the playoffs.  Some good, old-fashioned NW Illinois football in November.  Forreston Cardinals move on over the Lena-Winslow Panthers  26-13 in IHSA Class 2A Playoffs.

Good Luck to everyone this weekend  :)
Go Norse!!!

Wartburg hammers Cornell 35-7.........Knights are good and Cornell isn't (good analysis out of me)
UD over BV 24-20.........BV suffers hangover after tough loss
Simpson over Loras 14-10.............Simpson stops the Loras running game and squeaks one out
Coe over Central 17-14.......copy of last years game and keeps hope for the Knights and Kohawks

Just wondering why everyone thinks the field is going to be terrible at Coe today.  From what I heard all week is that it is supposed to be nice in the Cedar Rapids area this weekend.  And didnt Coe have the bye last week which should give the field a chance to recover after two weeks ago.

Kohawk Krazy

Here's my picks...

BV
Simpson
Wartburg
Coe

I don't see any reason the field at Coe is as bad as two weeks ago today.  It doesn't look like were going to get any rain today, so things should be ok.  It will be more dirt than mud, but that's ok.

Go Kohawks!

Well it's raining in Waterloo right now, so maybe you get a muddy field today at Coe...either way should be a good game down there.  I will be at home today babysitting the kids.  I will be watching the Hawkeye game while listening to the UD vs. BV game on the internet.

I don't think Wartburg's been shut out for 150 games. Maybe SID could check on that for us  ;D
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Devine -- where did you come from? You've missed most of the season.

Hmm....some Central stats for you from the Central website: The Dutch have had 27 Iowa Conference titles (15 in the last 22 years), 17 NCAA DIII playoff berths, "no losing seasons since 1960."

Here is an interesting stat I found in the media guide: Central is tied with Mt. Union and Washington & Jefferson for playoff appearances, at 17. Central has had 24 Iowa Conference first place finishes since 1980. Central ranks #3 in winningest DIII teams since 1980, with a 231-49-1 record, and a .823 winning percentage. Central also ranks among the winningest teams (at any level) in the NCAA, coming in #4 overall, behind Wittenberg(OH), Linfield (Oregon), and Nebraska.

How's that, Devine? :)
