The thing you have to remember is that he hired those coaches. Really I think Skladany and Ash are good coaches. Even Alford is good. I just think Cotton was very overrated coming in.

Steve Alford = 1 NCAA tourney win in his tenure.  Dr. Tom = 1 NCAA tourney win per year.

As for the ISU coaches, Cotton's idiotic calls on 3rd and whatever zap the life out of the entire team.  They need size and speed on the defensive side of the ball before I go after Skladany.  Granted... when they had Tim Dobbins anchoring the MLB spot and Berryman and Leaders on the D-line, Skladany's schemes worked really well!  Too bad the depth got kicked off the team this year.

Question for you WH... does Mac deserve 1 more year?  Aren't 5/7 years of bowl games enough for 1 extra year?

Redmen... what's your status for the UI/Wisconsin game on Saturday?  Could I actually use your ticket if you travel to Indianola, or is it a student ticket?

I'll be down on Friday night whether I have a ticket to the game or not...

Not when your conference winning percentage is lower than Jim Walden's.  Danny Mac won non-con games plus was able to beat Iowa, that is what kept him in Ames so long.

DutchFan2004

True Mac has been able to beat Iowa when no other ISU coach could do it on a regular basis.  I really think it would be a mistake to let him go.  The percentage thing is not a valid argument as Mac has been there longer and the conference has changed since then.  Did Walden ever contend or play for a conference championship I don't think so.  While coach Mac didn't win the conference he is the only coach I know in my lifetime that has done that.  Not even Johnnie Majors was competing for that.  If the Cyclone faithful want to get rid of a coach after two bad years then maybe but Mac has been a winner there where few coaches have been.  I also think that he should make them buy out his contract if he does go.  ISU signed it they should live up to it now.

Did you forget everyhting I taught you?
2-51 against conference teams w/ winning records at the end of the season does NOT allow you ANOTHER year. Dad can motivate and coach, but as for hiring assistants he's so-so @ best.

My guess he's back in IC to replace Parker as d-coordinator in a year or 2.

Are you coming up for the game or will you  be in CR? I'll be down for parents 52nd.
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

ISU's last 5 coaches

Earle Bruce (6 years, 36-32-0)     .529

Donnie Duncan (4 years, 18-24-2)      .409

Jim Criner (4 years, 16-24-2)     .381

Jim Walden (8 years, 28-57-3)     .318

Dan McCarney (12 years, 55-83-0)     .399

McCarney hasn't won much more than anyone else, before you say throw out the first years because he was building the program, consider that his record the last  6 years is only a .433 winning %. How many of you besides Cornell want to have a coach around that has a losing record his last 4 years? Sorry, couldn't resist the dig.
McCarney said it best to Maisel when he said he put himself in this position by the horrible year they are having.
Now off my soapbox.
Wartburg is my reason to look forward to Saturdays.

Just checked-
If Mac loses his last 2 games, his conference winning % the last 4 years is .250

Mac is a much better guy than a lot of other coaches out there... never passed the buck once in his tenure.  Blame always fell squarely on his shoulders if anywhere at all, and he made it that way.

I don't think he'll end up in IC though.  My ear-to-the-ground tells me that Miami is considering bringing in Barry Alvarez with a head coach/AD package and bringing in Mac as a defensive coordinator.  That'd be a better situation for all parties if Mac just didn't look back to Iowa and coached at a great school.  He and Alvarez will do well to clean up that program a little.  It'll be interesting to see what Mac can do with class after class of studs.

If he wins his last 2 games this year, he would be 10-22 conference (31.25%).  Considering where he brought the team from, though, .3125 is a TON better than the .1428 they historically had.  All things being said, ISU won't get another coach as passionate about ISU football (2nd lowest funded FB program in the Big XII) for a better price tag (12 years experience, 2nd lowest salary in Big XII).  If Pollard is worried so much about economics, this should play in somewhere.

DD-
Chances are I will be using my ticket, but tickets are already selling online for $25 so you should be able to find a cheap one.

DutchHawk-
Like stormchaser said, we did lose some talent at receiver (Kain), but Stoner has stepped up and Peterson remains solid.  On defense we did lose Ripke at DE and Kern at linebacker, but I really don't think our DL needs any help this year and our defense in general is always solid.  Can't really comment on the OL, but with the talent we have I wouldn't have predicted this kind of season, but that's the way it goes.

Picks

BV rolls the 'dorf
Coe over Cornell (closer than most think)
Simpson over Central (I took the storm in a very minor upset last week, can we make it a major upset this week?)
Wartburg knows what's on the line and beats UD in a close one
Loras stops the skip and takes care of Luther

Are you going to craigslist to see those ticket prices?  Let me know if you (or your brother or sister-in-law) could get me a ticket (which I'll pay for).  Get ready for a LONG weekend!!

Charlie, us Cornellians are still here buddy. We are still throwing our 2 cents in every once in awhile. There sure is more to talk about when you are winning though. Dillon will get things turned around. Turning a program around doesn't happen in one year. This weekend is huge for the Rams. I have a good feeling about this game and I think we are going to start to see this rivalry blossom again. Go Rams! Coe Sucks!  ;D
