If its windy it can make for a miserable day...well as miserable as watching a great game can be, but the wind and cold is nothing the Johnnie fans aren't used to up in Collegeville. Do you guys have any snow on the ground in that area???

"Hey Coco, Bluenote, Tuxguy, DenS LA, Wildcat11, et al -- Central v. St. John's this weekend in Pella. I know that a lot of Central fans (including myself) were hoping to play Linfield this weekend. We'll have to settle for beating the Johnnies, it looks like. How many Linfield fans are behind Central this week? Wink

Hope to see you guys again next season! Go Dutch!"

I'm on the Dutch Band Wagon baby!  :o  That's going to be a very cool experience! I wish I could be there for the festivities!!! Enjoy the game and get a victory. Hopefully Whitworth can win also and meet the Dutch the next week.

PS...how's Windmill doing?  ;D

Windmill? Windmill??
Bluenote, you said the last time you saw him, he was dancing in the town square with a tulip sticking out his a$$. Those were the good old days.

I'm pulling for Central in this one, too. SJU has been to the playoffs plenty of times, but Central has had a dry spell. Your guys have been working for this for a few years, have gone through a coaching change, are undefeated, and I think this is your year.

Besides, we like Dutchfan1 and KR, who both live in Iowa.

Dutch04 -- yeah, I'll be in town early. Some of the girls from my house want me to come down the night before, so we'll see when I actually make it to Pella. Where do you tailgate?

Blue, Coco, welcome to the Dutch bandwagon! :) Wish you were here!

Everybody has been helping the visitors from Minnesota with their Dutch letters and dining recommendations but no one has suggested that after the stop at Jaarsma's they should walk a couple of doors down to Ulrich's and pick up a couple of rings of Pella Bologna.  They might as well get the whole experience.  If I was going to be there Saturday and planned on crashing a tailgate party, that is what I would bring.  Just imagine the bad jokes those big old tube steaks will inspire.

The all-conference awards are up on the IIAC website:

http://www.iowaconference.com/men/football/all_conference/2006.htm

To the victors go the spoils as Schuring was MVP and McMartin was Coach of the Year.  The Dutch also had the most all-conference players with 11 and 1st team performers with 7.  They were the most consistent and mentally tough team this year.  Congrats on your 14th undefeated regular season and good luck in the playoffs, Dutch!

Congrats also to Walner Belleus, who earned First Team honors as a receiver and return specialist and Second Team honors as a defensive back to become the first IIAC player to receive All-Conference honors at three different positions in the same season under the current All-Conference format.

Dubuque had 8 guys made all-league.  Coe and Wartburg had nine.

As for the Norse, I agree that Pearson and Stavast deserved all-league 1st team.  I was a little surprised that Sweers made 1st team, especially after his game against Loras to finish the season.  Zach had great numbers and great athletic ability for a QB, but he also had two all-conference receivers and two all-conference linemen around him.

Besides the QB thing, I thought the league coaches were right on about the Luther Offense having players getting recognition and the Luther Defense and Special Teams being shutout.  It might be a long off-season in Decorah.

I agree with everything except for COY.  Brautigam should have won that award hands down if the voters kept with how they have historically voted.  PLUS he guided Dubuque to five conference wins for the first time in my memory.  McMartin was deserving and many congratulations go out to him... but he wasn't COY this year.

During Dubuque's webcast, the announcer said it was Dubuque's 1st winning record since 1987, and first winning record in conference play in 24 years.

So either you are 24 years old or younger.  Or for some reason you can't remember trivial Iowa Conference data over two decades old!!! ;D

I would have liked Brautigam to win COY but I am fine with McMartin winning the title.  Undefeated season, plus winning 3 overtime games means he was doing a good job of motivating the players.

I'm actually 25, but I don't remember much from before the age of 4 or 5.  :)

For the COY being from Dubuque I can agree that he may have been in the running.  But with recent history in the IIAC what is more of a feat.  10-0 or finishing tied for third.  I know that it is the best result for UD in the past but does that make it COY?  I think the undefeated season tumps it.  If the Dutch had a 7-1 9-1 conference championship then I think UD gets the nod but 10-0 is a special thing and a feat that is rare in the IIAC.

10-0 happened 3 short years ago in 2003 and the coach that went 10-0 didn't even get COY.
