Bold?  Yes :o, but I have to think the boys are going to be looking to prove themselves this week.

Coach Gagliardi will be oiling all squeaky parts (and as shown  last weekend, there are a lot of squeaky parts ;)).

Perfect set up for a joke, but I'm not going there. Dutchfan1?

WH.... just think... in a short 17 years and some odd months, Baby WH will be on the legal market for Steege!  How is the young one doing these days?  Keeping her safe from Steege I hope!

Funniest thing I've read on Post Patterns in a long time.

Doing good right now. Got to several football games this year, Wartburg/Central, Iowa State, and Winona State, not to mention most of the Dowling ones so I'm preparing her to be the first woman coach in the NCAA. The moment I found out we were having a girl I put a restraining order on my old roomie.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I never said that UD hasn't been a bottom dweller team, and I never said that one athlete makes a coach unnecessary.  I was speaking to the blatant disregard of the voters for Rick Willis when he by FAR had the reins at the best team in the conference in 2003.  He got snubbed because Simpson rebounded their program one last time to get a 2nd place finish.

If I were trying to have it both ways, I would've commented on how more UDUB players deserved to be on All-Conference teams... I would've argued the point to a ridiculous amount on how Walner Belleus deserved to be POY.  I pointed out he had amazing stats and wondered how close he was in the race, but I never said Schuring didn't deserve it.

My point is that in recent history the COY isn't predicated by a 10-0 record EXCEPT when the Dutch are near the top.  Don't give me the crap that it isn't easy coming in to coach the Dutch because of all the expectations.  You get the athletes, you get the history, you just need to follow the recipe and you'll be another successful Dutch coach.

COY since 2K1

2001 - Cornell's Steve Miller (7-3, 6-3... 3rd in conference (beat WB))
2002 - Coe's Eric Raeburn (9-1, 8-1... T-1st in conf (beat WB))
2003 - Simpson's Jay Nieman (9-2, 8-1... 2nd in conf (lost to WB))
2004 - BVU's Steve Osterberger (6-4, 5-3... 3rd in conf (beat WB))
2005 - McMartin (9-2, 7-1... T-1st (beat WB))
2006 - McMartin (10-0, 8-0... 1st (beat WB))

Half the time they voted for a NON-first place coach.  I wish I had quotes from when Willis was getting snubbed.  "It is easy to vote for the front-runner.... what about a coach that actually did something for his team".  WH can speak more to this than I can as he has paid closer attention to the board over the last few years.

Pull out all the quotes you want DF1... I admitted JUST over the weekend that UDUB had a great year.  Whether they will historically be a bottom dweller isn't the point... Brautigam went 5-3 in conference AND beat WB.  If you look at the stats (with the exception of Nieman), a win over WB and a top-half finish (when you aren't Central) = COY!

PS... tear me apart for this one.

PPS... I hadn't had much time to check out Post Patterns because of craziness at work.  I'll stick to ripping the Johnnies from now on.

Just finished reading through all the posts... Johnnies by 19???  There's a good chance there won't be a total of 19 points scored in this game!!  To expand on my earlier pick (Central by 7), I predict a 13-6 game for the Dutch (in OT:)).  The Johnnies won't find the endzone ONCE this weekend... welcome to real IIAC football!

I don't take anyone who has a crush on Chuck Norris seriously.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Is that a little contempt for the Dutch in that long post?? gee come on now! Did you play at the 'burg??

I would further like to beat this dead horse but I think that Koehler was probably a front runner with Mac for COY until they lost under pressure at home to a team they should have pounded (i say pounded because WB hangs with Central, Central whoops UDUB) If I were voting that would have turned my vote from Koehler to Mac. As for Brautigam I think you need to do more than 6-4 for COY...play consistently tough in all games, and dang...with those athletes, noone can argue that they are the most athleticall talented in the league...yet I dont see them coming any closer than 3rd in the near future.

Didn't play... was roommates with Cody Kelley and JJ Zearley 1 year, roommates with a student coach same year, close friends with WH and all the FB guys from his suite... so a TON of connections, but no PT.  That's why I frequent this board as I never got the chance to let my playing do my talking for me.

I know we still have a rep in the post-season, so this is an open-ended question...

Does Koehler still have the "taking over Willis' program" tag next year, and a conference 1st or T-1st would give him the COY nod?  He's by far the newest guy on the block... with the "pressure of taking over a perennial contender".  Sorry DF1... had to jab just a bit :)
