I'll throw my two cents into the "Best IIAC Team in the Last Decade" debate.  I really think it is a push between the '97 Simpson team and the Wartburg squad from 2003.  I had a cousin that played for Simpson in '97 and was a student coach in '98 and those guys were tough.  Playmakers in the QB and RB...Big, dominating lines...and very well coached in the autumn of the Williams era.  '03 Wartburg had a lot of the same ingredients.  Might have had a better passing game, but the IIAC had evolved greatly in those five years from 3 yards and a cloud of dust to what we see in the conference today as far as offensive schemes go.  It'd be real interesting to try to imagine what those two squads playing against each other would have been like.  I guess that's why someone needs to develop an IIAC Football video game. :D

You cut-off the reminiscence a year early.  The best IIAC team was Central 11 years ago in the first 2 games of the 1995 season.  It was the year Kacmarinski was on the cover of Sports Illustrated.  I cancelled my Stagg Bowl plans when his leg got broken at Wartburg in the third game of the season.  They still went undefeated until they lost by a point in the first round of the play-offs.

Next year, if you ask which is the best IIAC team of the decade, the answer will be the 2007 Central team.

With the upcoming Alamo Bowl does anyone think that Iowa can win?

I have heard a lot of people comparing this years Alamo Bowl to the Freedom Bowl that Iowa beat Texas...Texas had spent part of the year at #1...Iowa had gone an unremarkable 6-4-1 and then beat Texas 55-17.  And also to the Sun bowl where Washington was co-Pac 10 champions and played a middle of the pack in the Big Ten Iowa, and Iowa came out and smoked them.

The difference is those were Iowa teams that played hard but didnt have that great of a record.  This years Iowa team has the talent and injuries did hamper their season.  But this years team also had a bunch of head cases that gave up on the season.  I hope they pull things together and maybe they can win this game.  But I really haven't seen it in this team to be able to win in the Alamo Bowl.

That being said...Go Hawks and let's get a win over Texas.

Now for the REALLY big question.  Can Dubuque finish next season in the top half of the IIAC??? ;D

The Show

Iowa will win by 3-7 points or lose by 28-31 points.  Just depends which team shows up on both sides.

Opening spread is 11 1/2 points.

Iowa seems to play a lot better when they are the underdogs, so we should be set!

That's a very optimistic projection. :)

Since we are talking bowl games, any predictions on how the clones will do??? :D

In 2 years we win the Independence Bowl.
Redmen and D2.
We are tentatively planning the WAOSAGCFDTIR
"Wartburg and one simpson alum great canoe float down the Iowa River" for June 9 and 10.
Hopefully this year its not the coldest day of the summer and a certain brother of redmen's doesn't capsize or try to climb a sand bluff.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I'm in for the WAOSAGCFDTIR this year.  No weddings to contend with this year.  I thought we were going down some other river this year?

I think Iowa will keep it close at the Alamo.  But it is sad, rewarding a 6-6 Iowa team who tanked the last half the season with a date against the defending national champ Horns.  Not fair to Texas either.  I guess I'm not saying Texas will automatically win, because a lot can be worked out in a month, but the Hawks do not deserve to be there.

I heard ISU is the early favorite in the Toilet Bowl held in Bangor, ME.

My last trip down the river was with Bobcat and some of the other '99 Knights on a 4th of July float trip.  That was the day that sealed Little Warthog's decision to go to Wartburg.  What a day!

Iowa in the Alamo Bowl.  Who really gives a crap?  :-\

Ninth place in the Big Ten, WOW that's special!   ;)

They fired the wrong D1 coach in the state of Iowa.   :'(

Gee, Warty, you don't need to sugarcoat it like that.
You can speak frankly.

Alamo Bowl officials give a crap.  They know Iowa brings a large fan base with them that fills up hotels and spends a lot of money around town.  And that's what it's all about really. ;)

Agreed, 9th place aint too great. >:(

2-51 against conference opponants that finish their season with a winning record tends to get you fired before a coach that takes his team to 4 straight January bowls...or are you saying UNI's coach should have been fired for missing the playoffs 1 season after going to the championship game??? ;D

Although I liked McCarney and if I was the AD I probably wouldn't have let him go.  Pollard seems to be the guy to make big moves, and I wonder if the people that give the big money at ISU were in his ears about making the switch.

Da One

Kyle Pearson should have been 1st team all region.  Teams game plan to stop him and he still had 89 receptions and over 1000yds.  I know Luther's record was bad, but he was not.  I know "to the victor go the spoils," but KP has dominated for 3 years.  He was screwed last year being named 2nd team IIAC when he lead the league in receptions.  He had 20+ more catches than Dusty Kain.  Now he gets the shaft this year!

Congrats KP on the Aztec Bowl nomination!

KoHawk01

Very surprised with the all region teams.  Congrats to those from the IIAC that made it, as they were all more than deserving.

What I can't figure out is how Northern couldn't make it ...... I feel he definitely had the numbers.

Also how does Brock Hall from Loras not make it?? He is arguably the best LB in the conference and I know he is one of the best in the regionl .....

There were also a few others i couldn't figure out ......
