There may have been injustice, but since the teams that lucked their way in lost, all was well.
What would have been terrible is to have 2 teams from the same conference that beat up on the SAME teams all year long play each other to become supposedly the best in the country. Thankfully Florida and USC proved everyone wrong.

I have always thought that you should have to win your conference to play for the national title under any non-playoff format.  The Michigan argument was weak since they were not league champions, so I think we agree on that part.

USC did not think all was well when they watched LSU destroy Oklahoma in 2003.  Luckily the AP voter bolted the BCS and voted USC #1 to force a shared national title, but USC had lots of questions surrounding them until they won the BCS title game the next season to somewhat legitimize what had happened the previous year.

The Big Ten gets a lot of attention and exposure compared to some or most leagues, but SEC traditionally gets most of the hype as the best football league and the ACC almost always gets most of the hype as the best basketball league.  It is not that way every year, but I guess I missed all of the national "Big Ten is the best conference" talk that seems to get some so riled up about the league.

I gotta call you on this one, Walston.  In the lead-up to last night's game, everyone I heard said that Florida played a tougher schedule, but would lose despite it.  They turned out to be wrong on the latter point, but Florida's schedule in the SEC was justifiably recognized as being tougher than what OSU saw in the Big 11.

What a bizarre weekend with the Norse Men's Basketball team beating Wartburg and the Norse Wrestlers losing to UW-La Crosse.

Yeah, but both the Luther basketball team and the UWL wrestlers are coached by former Wartburg assistants, so the Knights are still superior.

Yeah, I'm thrilled so far with the direction of the Norse Basketball team under a Knight!  It's early and this was a rebuilding year no matter the coach, but it would be nice to actually beat someone like Northwestern Bible College if we are going to have to have a Wartburg guy on the Luther campus.

How many wins would Buzz have if he were coaching the Norse or the Knights?

Buzz won 510 in his Wartburg career, including 18 his last season in 92-93.  He's said that he wishes he would have stayed on for the 93-94 team, who ended up winning 14 games under Howard Gauthier.  Even in a perfect world, I don't think Buzz would have stayed with coaching to this point.  I think he enjoys watching the game enough that he would have gotten out about the time that Coach Peth came along.  So if you assume he coaches another 4-5 years with an average of about 16 wins per, that puts him up around 590.  Not on Bobby Knight's level, but not bad either, especially considering he coached high school ball for a few years before coming to Waverly.

I believe what has been said all year on the ESPN family of networks is that the SEC is the deeper league, but the top teams in the Little 11 were superior to those of the SEC.  However, at the beginning of the year I believe ESPN was saying different, with ESPN "expert" Mark May picking, of all teams, the Hawks, making the final four in the preseason college football tournament.  The Lil 11 was overrated all season and we are all lucky Michigan was not invited to play in the title game.

Hi All,

there will be a collegiate weightlifting (snatch & clean & jerk) contest held at UW-LaCrosse Feb 17th.  Just thought I'd post it in case anybody is interested.  Proceeds go to a national suicide hotline.  I've attached an entry form.

I, for one, have always enjoyed some nice college snatch.   ;)

Also, I know somebody usually puts something like this up every year, but here's the proof that Wartburg is truly deserving of the BCS Championship:
Wartburg beat
Cornell IA who beat
Alma who beat
Albion who beat
Butler who beat
Dayton who beat
Robert Morris who beat
Central Conn St who beat
Georgia Southern who beat
Western Carolina who beat
Eastern Kentucky who beat
Western Kentucky who beat
Southern Illinois who beat
Indiana who beat
Iowa who beat
Iowa St who beat
Missouri who beat
Mississippi who beat
Vanderbilt who beat
Georgia who beat
Auburn who beat
Florida

That gets frowned on the older you get!!! ;D

And before I made the chain for Dubuque I realised...anybody in the IIAC that beat Cornell would have the exact same chain!!!

Doesn't that include all IIAC teams then

Sportsknight-Too bad their not having the snatch tourney at BV, that seemed to be where you were at the top of your game.

So Cornell goes 0-8 in conference but they would have a shorter chain to Florida than the rest of the teams in conference that beat them...hmm.

Sportsknight-
There are still tickets available to ISU/KU and Hilton was rocking last night. May be worth the trip down to watch your boy coach.

Just so long as I don't have to wear one of those yellow trash bags like some of the fans were last night.

Actually, I have some high school ball to catch on Saturday.  Might listen on the radio, but won't be there in person.

I see the midwest conference now will televise over the internet all of their basketball and football games.

I know IIAC schools have audio over the internet.  Dubuque has a retired local dj doing theirs while a lot of the other schools have broadcasting students doing theirs.  Would it be too difficult to add video to what they are already doing?

Just curious.
