I find it hilarious that every time a wartburg player ties his shoe correctly before going outside, one of the knight faithful on here is bragging him up. However, when a UD player achieves an accomplishment EVERY college football player would dream of, many of you try to spin it into "recruiting pitches" or the team only won half its games (which in case you can't count WH, 6-4 is winning more then half).

It's news boys! He's a former D3 and Iowa Conference football player! It should be all support from everyone on here but I do understand that the knight faithful may still hurting over that loss to UD at the end of the season so I won't take any offense to the comments.

Daunta Peterson is a heck of an athlete and person from what I know. And even if some posters on here hope he falls on his face, I am hopeful that IIAC supporters will wish him well and he lives every football players dream!!

Take a deep breath, Willie.  I know I don't speak for everyone here, but I'd guess that most people here would like to see as many IIAC people go as far as they can.  That's why you hear people around here congratulating Fred Jackson whenever he does something good in the NFLE (that including people that saw Freddy ruin one of their homecomings).
I've always found it weird how many UD students and alums have a sort of inferiority complex.  Maybe be its because of how many people in DBQ turn a blind eye to the school because of Loras, but I'm not one to play armchair psychologist.

If I had a daughter and she said she liked soccer over football, I'd be jumping up and down with excitement. Now, if my son claims he likes soccer more then football..he may just end up without a roof over his head.

Knight faithful- i don't visit d3hoops, but I did notice on the iiac page the knights are winless on the hardwood in the IIAC..ouch.. is it youth, injuries or just plain bad luck?

is it August yet? This offseason is dragging already...all the waiting with no HC to tell me what we should do defensively next year.

You've nailed that one as far as things that used to drive me crazy.  If I had a nickel for everytime we would be talking to someone from Dubuque, and they would say "Oh, college students, you must go to Loras."  And then seeing the sad look on their faces and the conversation suddenly end when we would reply, "no, we go to UD."  Or my amazement at all the men in Dubuque that are named "Loras" it is unbelievable.

Of course, lucky for me nobody at the Dog House or the Mining Co. ever told us those 2 dollar pitchers were now 3 dollars because we went to UD!!!  Then things might have gotten ugly.

Maybe we Dubuque alums need to try some group therapy so as to not turn so many people off to us.  The power of positive thought can work wonders.  I will chant to myself at work today, "I went to UD, and I am a good person"

Ok, as for IIAC football.  Here is another prediction.  UD will either really keep things on the upswing next season and go 6-2 in conference...losses to Central and Loras.  Or things will most certainly go back to the status quo...0-8 in the IIAC, coaching changes, player revolts, that sort of thing.

I, being of the Catholic faith and Wahlert High School graduate have a simple response to answer that. I wouldn't categorize it as any kind of "inferiority complex" but rather decades or even a century of UD being the wicked "step-brother" of the 3 colleges in Dubuque simply because UD is not affiliated with the Catholic church as Clarke and Loras are. Those from outside the community may not realize that Dubuque is about 90% Catholic. Thus, if you were brainwashed like I was as a child going through the ranks of the catholic school system in Dubuque, you thought there was no religion but catholism and you must not be very christian if you aren't catholic. However, even though I am still a practicing catholic just as half of UD's students and alums are, I also realize that Presbyterians sure are great people too and just as Christian (if not more so in some cases) than catholics.

Don't want to get into a religious discussion but that is the bottom line where it (UD-Loras rivalry) all stems from. Mostly ignorance on many catholics part thinking they are better. But, in God's eyes, we are all equal and being one faith over another does not mean one person is better or more christian then another.

Sermon finished.

Belleus and Mashburn Named to Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-West Region Team

The University of Dubuque had two football players named to Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-West Region Team. Walner Belleus (Sr., Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee H.S.) was named to the First Team All-West Region as a punt returner, 3rd Team All-West Region as a wide receiver, and Honorable Mention All-West Region as a kick returner. Teammate Mark Mashburn (Jr., Homedale, Idaho/Homedale H.S.) was named to 3rd Team All-West Region as a defensive back.

Belleus was a 2006 Aztec Bowl selection and intercepted a pass returning it 33 yards for Team USA helping them to a 28-7 victory on December 16 in Aguascalientes, Mexico. He was named to the Iowa Conference as a First Team Offense, First Team Returner, Second Team Defense. Mashburn was First Team Defense for the IIAC and led the nation in solo tackles and total tackles.

UD finished the season with their most wins since 1987 with a 6-4 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the conference (tied for third place).

Willie,
I can somewhat empathize with your experience, since I was brought up Catholic in the Dubuque area (not within the city, but close enough to know what you're talking about).  However, my experience differed in one giant way.  My dad had been forced to attend high school at Dyersville Beckman after the private HS in Cascade shut down, and absolutely hated it because none of his friends were there with him.  I think he also has a certain level of bad blood for Loras, for other reasons.  I have my own issues with Loras, mostly because the majority of the people I've known that attended school there discovered that they were better than me after being there for about a semester.
Thus, I know of the bias against UD in Dubuque right now, but with so many more Dubuque kids going to college somewhere besided Loras now, as opposed to 20 years ago, I think you can look forward to that "little brother" feeling fading away in the coming decades.

Also, thoughts and prayers to the family of Bob Loslo, who had been the unofficial photographer of Wartburg football for as long as I was in school.  Bob passed away on Friday in Cedar Falls and his service is this afternoon at the Wartburg Chapel.

Sorry to hear about Loslo.  I have enjoyed looking at his Wartburg photos for a few years now.  Some of his pics have been on my computer background from time to time.

First off, I want to congratulate the U of Dbq and Duante Peterson for making it to NFL Europe . . . Quite an accomplishment, I think that really says something for the level of athleticism they have @ that school . . . Also, can anybody direct me as where to go in regards to seeing a release of this years Don Hansen's All Region Teams .... Any help would be greatly appreciated ...... also, if anyone can speed up these next 6 or 7 months that would be greatly appreciated also ... good day to all

Wow -- that's a lot of players on that team. Kinda cheapens the honor for all, don't you think?

Spurrier what is your point?

If you are playing at the D3 level why would you be going to a combine?  I don't think many of the D3 players here in the IIAC have been recruited out of these combines.  Isn't that for kids looking at a level higher than D3?  I would not expect Central kids to be there at the combine as they have committed to going to to Central or have at least decided to attend an IIAC school.  Why would you go to the expense of going there to play at an IIAC school.  The logic of your statement escapes me.  The same goes for Coe, Wartburg and the rest of the IIAC schools.  Maybe thats where UD gets their out of state kids from I don't know.  I think that Coe, Wartburg, and Central have a good way of recruiting as they are the three schools with the trophies in how many of the past years?  Was your son trying to get recruited by an IIAC school there?

#1 the nike combines are free. . .

#2 there were over five-hundred kids there. . .not all of whom will sign di, aa, or dii scholarships of course. . .

#3 there was lots of speed, size, and strength there. . .

#4 perhaps the iiac could win a few playoff games vs the rest of the country with some of this talent. . .6-11 since the automatic qualifier

#5 ud has recruited the florida talent pool

#6 the results are beginning to show

#7 why wouldn't schools go after the best student-athletes available?
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

This is actually happening all over the place. It's not unusual.

I was not aware that D3 kids were doing this.

Nike camps are free to go there?  Do they pay to get you there as well? I can see how that might help recruit out of state players.  Maybe The IIAC teams would benefit from going there.  Somehow I don't see that being the savior of the playoff record.  It may have helped UD to get to the #4 spot in the IIAC.  I don't see that putting the IIAC to the regional finals.  I don't see St Johns or UWW doing that.  Might be helpful but don't see that being the key to the IIAC doing better in the playoffs. Central didn't do that poorly against St Johns.  Better execution would have helped against St Johns this year.  Central while losing first round against a regional finalist was not blown out.  So going to the Nike camps may be helpful I don't see it being a savior for the conference.
