Wow, we um, really know how to kill a conversation, don't we?

OK, something to spark discussion: what is your favorite non-conference foe? Why?

Has anyone read the latest ATN? Here is my favorite IIAC excerpt:

Best excuse for not updating the team's Web site
We'd give Dubuque a harder time about still having a preseason article out front in January, but according to the fine print on the site itself, Vince Brautigam is responsible for both maintaining the site and coaching the team.

Brautigam excelled at the latter part of his job, improving from 2-8 to 6-4, with a season-ending win over Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference power Wartburg and a top-half finish in the IIAC. Dubuque was competitive in the second half of '05, bonded on a May '06 trip to Germany and then turned in the school's first winning season since 1987.

The six wins was more than the Spartans had from 2002-05 combined. Brautigam, hired before the 2001 season, was 7-43 before this year, but finally got the program on the track he wants it on.

So no rush on that website thing.

(For the record, there are articles from the '06 season on the Dubuque site under Team News/Recaps)

I guess I will go with the "any publicity is good publicity" theory here for Dubuque.

And on the Simpson football page they have the 2005 highlights...so at least Dubuque has 1 team beat as far as the web page goes.

Are there any non-conference rivalries for IIAC teams???  I know Loras and St. Ambrose have somewhat of a rivalry, although they won't be playing each other next season.  Other than that I haven't noticed any teams that play most every year.  I know Dubuque for the most part plays a home and home with somebody and then moves on to someone else.

Here a couple of questions.  Simpson lists football championships going back to the 1920's  Dubuque has been the in IIAC since the 1920's and I don't see that Dubuque ever played Simpson before 1950.  How is that?  Also, Loras supposedly left the conference around 1950 and I see that Dubuque and Loras only played each other maybe 6 or 7 times before Loras left.  Any body out there with any answers???

The length of the rivalry isn't an issue.... when I posed the question, I meant it to spark conversation about the teams cause your team to rise to the challenge of playing them. In Central's case, I, as a fan, love watching the Dutch play Augustana. We rise to the occassion every time we play them -- it's always one of the toughest, most competitive games of the year because both teams bring it.

For fan value, we love Linfield and Frosty's Lute's for the same type of reasons. Central has only met up with them in the post-season, where Augustana is a pre-conference season foe.

To defend Simpson's webpage, the updated information is at the top of the page and was updated weekly during the season. As for the bottom of the page, I don't know why that hasn't been changed.

As for the UD playing Simpson question...I believe UD joined the conference in the late 20s and that's why they didn't play up to that point.

Dubuque joined in the early 20's then left for 3 years before rejoining the conference.  My question is that I don't see that Dubuque ever played Simpson before 1950.  How was that possible?

...last I heard he was in a sanitarium near Urbandale.

Who's the front runner in the IIAC next year? Is it the usual suspects or are there some dark horses on the horizon....

Central, Coe and Wartburg.   I would look out for Coe if that TeKippe kid is back.   With him and Suckow they will be tough to beat.   I think Coe also has most of their defense back plus they get that nose-tackle Pinckney kid back from Wash that started for them in 2005.  I think he tore a bicep and had to sit out a year or something.

and Willie, no offense taken.  Just lighten up.

Wasn't last year Suckow's last year or am I mistaken?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships
