Saw this over on the SCIAC board.

Did any of you out there have a coach like Andy Dick in that clip???

I wanted to get some thoughts from the board on the lack of success the Conference has had in the playoffs.  I went to Central and am a huge admirer of Coach Schipper.  I know I am biased but he appears to be the only person able to generate sustained national success from the Iowa Conference.  I had the opportunity to meet Coach Willis a couple of times and thought he might be able to do this at Wartburg.  My personal theory is the conference cant' support more than one national power because of the shared recruiting pool.

Noticed that Walnur Belleus worked out at the Iowa State Pro Day. He is the only person from an Iowa conference school to work out for the NFL.   Here are his results:

Belleus Walner CB/KR Walner (5-9 ½, 180 pounds) ran his 40s in 4.58 and 4.64. He also had a 36 ½-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-1 long jump, 4.29 short shuttle, 6.90 three-cone drill and 8 bench presses.

Not the stats I bet he was hoping for.  A DB or a return specialist will need better times than that.

4.58 wouldnt be bad for a linebacker:)

I was hoping we could maybe talk about some football so I'll see what I can do to get some conversation started since we're less than a half year until next season!

I'm doing a little preseason award thing here; please chime in!

Conference Champ:  I like Wartburg for some reason  ???

Surprise Team of the Year:  Loras College

Disappointment of the year:  Luther

Offensive player of the year:  Vance Schurring

Defensive Player of the Year:  Brock Hall

Special Teams Player:  Neil Suckow

Coach of the year:  I'm thinking Osterberger for some reason

Looking at this I think I've gone crazy!! lol!  Hope you all are having a solid offseason!   ;D

Conference Champ: Central returns a lot of seasoned talent on offense and defense

Surprise: Luther...Sherden might bring enough firepower and confidence for them to finish third...dont konw about their defense though.

Dissapointment: Coe...they werent able to beat Central/Wartburg at home...and top that off with a loss to Cornell at home...they wont be able to win those on the road and will probably lose to someone they shouldnt at home again.

Offensive Player: Schuring for a three-peat

Defensive: Brett Doud at Central mainly because I dont know many defenders across the league...hes one of the best though

Special Teams: Sherden...if he returns kicks

COY: Probably not McMartin...10-0 is the standard so really he wont improve in the regular season...maybe osterberger at Loras

That is why stats only tell a portion of the picture. It's obvious he has talent or he wouldn't be getting drafted in the NFL. And there is also something called "football speed" that any of us that played know about. It's the ability to cut, take great routes, and make moves that you can't "time" someone on. Being a former linebacker/fill in DL when necessary, my 40 times were definitely not blazing but I also led the team in pass break ups my junior year because of my ability to read and take good routes---that is football speed. Walner on the other hand, just basically can make guys look like junior high football players at times by his ability to make them miss, be running full speed, stop on a dime, switch directions, and back to full speed. In my 16 years of either playing or watching D3 football, he's the BEST I have ever seen at this level doing those things. There was a reason he started as a return man at Iowa also and there is a reason he will probably get drafted. The stats are nice "supporting material" to help a players cause but in Walner Belleus's case, I'd be willing to bet he'll still get his shot without a 4.4 - 40 time.

I'm doubting he gets drafted, but probably picked up as a Free Agent after the draft.

Walston Hoover

I would put the odds at slim to none that he will get drafted.
There have been plenty of players contribute in the NFL that started with free-agent contracts though. I know 1 that has have a very successful and long career.

This has been discussed quite a few times before. I think the (for lack of a better term) "watered-down" recruiting plays a role. Part of it is probably more than half the kids in Iowa grow up in a wing-t or some other run-heavy offense and it doesn't develop the athletes to work the more pass heavy offenses that a lot of coaches want to run. Another problem for the IIAC is the West Region has been pretty strong the last 10 years.
I know the 2 years Wartburg got beat by Linfield (in McMinnville) we had pretty good size wins in the first round. The IIAC hasn't exactly had the best draws in recent years either since most of the time the conference champ has had at least 1 loss.

Huh? Coe hasn't lost to Cornell in the Raeburn era and pasted the Rams 31-14 in Mt. Vernon this year. I'm sure this was an honest mistake, but one that needed to be corrected.

For all of you predicting the Kohawks' demise, I remind you that we're installing FieldTurf. This surface will be ideally suited to Coe's spread offense. Not to mention, practices will be more productive. I wouldn't write the Kohawks off just yet.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

DutchHawk

Yea my bad...maybe I meant Loras? I dunno...purple gets confusing in my head. Either way I dont think installing fieldturf will be to the advantage of Coe over any other IIAC team, especially Wartburg and Central as they both have the speed and athletes to cover it. Ask Belleus and Dubuques supposed high powered offense how the Fieldturf at Central helped them last year... I think they finally scored on the 2nd teamers in the 4th quarter.

Anyone know a place in Des Moines where I can get transmission work done that won't charge me an arm and a leg but will do a good job?

The transmission on my wife's 2002 neon is going fast, never did seem to idle and come out of idle right.

Thanks!

Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

I used Mitchell Transmission when my transmission went out a year and a half ago.
