Why is Central reporting earlier than any of the other schools? Do they have an earlier game or something?

Charlie Kohawk

Coe players report on Saturday with ginormous chips on their shoulders following the most blatant case of disloyalty and cowardice they'll ever experience from a teammate. They'll be greeted by a beautifully refurbished field thanks to this summer's FieldTurf installation project.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Pat Coleman

Thanks, Charlie. It had been at least 24 hours since you mentioned that.

DoubleOT -- reporting date take the first day of classes into account as well as the day of the first game.

Okay thanks Pat for the clarification.

I've been told by a fairly reliable source close to Coe that Coe has filed or is thinking about filing a motion with the Iowa conference that forces players to sit out a season when they transfer between Iowa Conference schools. Probably filed by Charlie himself.
Since most of the time I believe transfers are more a player wanting to get out of the school he is at rather than wanting to go to the school he is heading to I don't think this will take. If he really wants to play football he'll transfer to a MIAC or CCIW or MWC school.
The spirit of the rule is OK, but make it a 90 day rule or something to that effect. That way if a guy transfers after the season he can still play the following fall, but if something last minute happens then they have to sit out.
Tough rule to enforce though. With many multi-sport athletes in the conference, if a football player leaves for another school at Christmas, can he play baseball in the spring? What if a player didn't play at his previous school and decides he wants to give it a try somewhere else?
What about a situation where a player shows up to one school's camp as a freshman and decides a few days later he wants to be somewhere else? Does the rule apply to him?

After a swift kick in the nuts by a college kid, Charlie has bounced up and is ready to go.

Hey Everyone!  Long time reader, first time poster.  Norse report Sucday.  I guess it wont be hard to figure who I am rooting for in the conference.  As to the earlier discussion on the IIAC compared to other conferences.  From where I stand (N central Illinois) no conference within 300 miles is better, with the exception of WIAC, and with my alma mater being ISU...GO! Cyclones!..the IIAC was where we looked first.  From top to bottom the IIAC would be in the top 3 of most conferences....IMHO.  I have seen about 10 games in the past 3 years and the competition level is very good.  I also watched alot of games at Aurora, Eureka, Knox, and Monmoth.  Also the campus and education value in the IIAC is top notch.  Again I am partial to the state of Iowa and all levels of academics and athletics.  Never been a fan of the U of I or N'western.  I even root for the Hawkeyes at bowl time.  But I am a Big 12 fan first.  The IIAC is a quality conference.  Now lets play some football!!!!

Welcome to the board Norsedad. At least we can agree on the Cyclones.

I though the basis of D3 is that without athletic scholarships students are not indentured to one school.Since they are in effect paying to play instead of getting something to play, there should be some freedom along with that.I can understand Coe's and Charlie's frustration, but as it's been proved here, players have been switching schools for some time.

Charlie,as for Suckow's loss, look for others to step up in his place, like Sam Hammes. This could work out to be a positive for both schools.

About the issue on transfering inside the IIAC, and making a sit out period. I believe that there should be a rule stating that players who transfer inside the IIAC should have to sit out atleast one game. Even if it is the D3 level, because the student made a commitment to the school and program, and they would not be able to leave all their problems in the real world. It is part of the learning experience.

If the player transfers from a school where they didn't play baseball to a school where they will try to play, there should be no punishment. Though if they were playing football at the first school, and plan to play at their new school they would have to miss a game. Potentially change the rule for the age of the student (freshman and sophomores 1 game; juniors and seniors 2).

Also, the amount of games pentalized should depend on the sport, because 1 game in football is more important than 1 game in baseball, so maybe make them sit out longer for baseball.

With this rule, I think there should be a way for a student to challenge the rule, for those cases where a student is changing schools for adademic or financial reasons. Maybe they must meet with IIAC officals, maybe just write a paper that must be approved, though I am not sure about this part.

So if there was a sit out rule would the one game sit out be for an IIAC game or could it be for the non-conference games? I personally think that the first game of the year would be fine and that usually is a non-conference game. I also think the whole sit out rule should depend on when the kid transfers and what the circumstances are.

Isn't everyday in Decorah Sucday?
