I think Suckow is a huge addition for Wartburg.  Very few players have game changing ability and Wartburg just added one.  I feel great about Central's D as far as opponents ability to sustain drives on them, but Suckow can score from anywhere.  I thought Central was a pretty solid favorite (I'm biased), but I really believe Central and Wartburg are a toss up going into the season.

I'd look for Wartburg to move him around a lot and let him try to attack the defense from a variety of angles.  That will also not let the opposing D get too comfortable with Suckow in just one spot.  I can see him lining up at TB some plays, wideout some others, and even working out of the slot in multi-receiver sets.  I don't really see him as "replacing" Van Rees.  Both are very good at what they do, but fairly different types of backs.  Besides that, Wartburg has had a lot of success using 2 backs over the years (Moestre and Beatty, Beatty and Hodapp, Hodapp and Parker, Parker and Hammes, Hammes and Van Rees, etc).

Walston Hoover if your brother went to Wartburg after you. My son and your brother played football together. My son graduated in 07

I agree he is a great addition, as is any all conference player. I just think that unlike Coe, Wartburg has weapons who are near Suckows ability, whereas at Coe, after Suckow there seems to be a drop off in talent. Thats all I was saying is that this has more of an impact on Coe than it does on Wartburg if that makes sense to you guys.

you guys are talking about wartburg using him the same way coe did.  wasnt that one of the speculative "reasons" that he left in the first place? because he wasn't an everydown tailback?

I don't believe he will be the every down guy for wartburg as they have always been a two back offense sharing the load and they haave two pretty good backs coming back from last year in VanRee and Boom (frost last year). To be honest I'm not sure where they are going to use him

WartTrainer

One thing with Suckow is that his durability has been an issue for the last two years so I dont know if they could count on him being an every down back.  Plus...like Wartburg_fan said they have two pretty good backs coming back.  I think they should  use him like USC did Reggie Bush....kick returns, punt returns, and move him all over so that defenses will be off balance.  Plus they should limit his touches to 12-15 per game so he can stay healthy.

I think the USC comparison is pretty on.  While Wartburg doesn't have a QB even close to comparing to Leinart, they do already have an established back (Van Rees=LenDale White) and a couple of pretty good possession WRs (Duchman, Vetter/Lahr=Smith, Jarrett).
I don't think Suckow needs to be a guy that touches the ball on every other play for Wartburg.  They have enough other playmakers that he will compliment their talents as they compliment his.
I think that'll be the biggest difference between Suckow at Coe and Suckow at Wartburg.  Coe needed him to be a much bigger part of the scheme, and for whatever reason (durability, abilities weren't a good fit, whatever) he couldn't be the guy they needed.
You Heard It Here First Alert:  With Suckow added to the mix, Wartburg TE Ryan Hoerner will be able to get lost in coverages a lot more of the time.  If whoever the QB is can find him, look for a big year for the JR from West Dubuque.

Just noticed on the IIAC site that Loras plays Upper Iowa the first week of the year.  Is this the first time the Cocks have played one of their former IIAC rivals since making the jump to D2?  I'm pretty sure it is.

Ash Park

I talked to a parent today that has a son on the Coe football team and from what his son said it sounds like Suckow didn't leave because he wasn't the every down tailback. The parent wouldn't get into specifics but it sounds like he just wasn't happy at Coe and he wanted to enjoy his last year playing. This is the reason he apparently gave to a couple of the players from what this kid said to his father. This is all hear say so it could be that not all of it is true. I think someone said earlier that we may not know for awhile or never know why the guy left and that is probably right. I believe Coe will still be a tough team without him and who knows it may work out better anyway.

Walston Hoover

That was the same reason I was given Ash so I was a little lost at claims of playing time being the reason. Simply put, He and Raeburn didn't get along.

Hey guys, a little off-topic here, but I am pretty excited about it. For probably the first time in my life, I stepped on the scale this morning and my BMI didn't fall into the "obese" category. I am now, simply-overweight,  75 pounds removed from a lifestyle change starting the weekend before the Super Bowl this year and I am feeling good. I have a ways to go to get where I want to be, but the light is now there at the end of the tunnel.
I have been accused of being a DB coach now back at school, and to be honest with you, I don't mind a whole lot. It is time I learned something more about the game of football.

Guess that nickname you had in college doesn't really fit anymore...

Everyone still calls me Tubby. Heck I don't think some people in school even knew my real name.

It is three years after the Clone Wars. The Jedi council assigns Anakin to spy on Chancellor Palpatine, as Anakin is forming a close friendship with the politician. Palpatine constantly tries to manipulate Anakin into believing that the Jedi Council is against him.  Anakin learns Chancellor Palpatine is the mysterious Sith Lord Darth Sidious and is the mastermind behind the war.   Jedi Master Mace Windu fights him, along with three other Jedi that accompany Windu. They all fail.  Anakin becomes Darth Vader, believing that he can save Padme from death by becoming evil. After a fierce battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin, Anakin gets fried by the lava at Mustafar. Chancellor Palpatine takes him to a medical facility, where he gets fake legs and a fake arm attached to him, along with a breath mask, and a helmet. And thus, Darth Vader was born... With Anakin turned to the Dark Side, could this mean the fall of the Republic and the end of the Jedi Order?
