OK, I can no longer keep silent.  I, being neither a Kohawk fan nor a Wartburg fan am getting ill.   Maybe we should turn this board into a Warturg chat room so that they might bask in their last two seasons of finishing second........who really cares!   Oh..........I know the "Orange" do.  We're all scared now!

"Be Orange" you've got to be kidding me.

Let's talk some football!

Pat Coleman

If you don't like the topic of conversation, try starting a different one rather than complaining about what people choose to talk about.

I'm pretty sure other posters have just as much access to the board as we do.
I don't know much about the other schools right now so I'm not going to start any conversations about them.
Footballdaddy-Everyone make it through the conditioning test alright? Hear any "incredibly fast 40" stories?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

This is my first post, although when I've had time I've read the postings in this ongoing conversation (for years!).  What finally stirs me to write is the interesting decision by Neil Suckow and the responses of some to this decision.

While this decision by Mr. Suckow understandably stirs the various loyalties of the fans (or "partisanship" -- I live in D.C.), one must remember that the philosophy of Division III demands respect for student decisions about where, when and how they participate in intercollegiate athletics.  I suspect this decision was far more difficult than any of us realize, and there's probably no way to make it or carry it out in a manner that will appease onlookers who feel, in some sense, betrayed.

In the end, it's Mr. Suckow's education -- and all that education entails in a small college environment.  The values behind that assertion are what lead me to be a proponent of Division III athletics.

As for the football, it will be very interesting to see whether, and the extent to which, Mr. Suckow has a positive impact in a former rival's success on the field.

W-H all I can say is that my boy called after testing to say he was happy with how he tested. He gave no specifics only that he ran the best 40 he ever had.I knew he couldn't talk freely because he was with some other players. He also called and said that the night pratice went well also. We'll go up for the scrimmage next Sunday and Thursday and see in person how everyone looks.

OK qbdriver; What is it you wish to discuss?

Suggestions:

1) This will be another in a long list of break out years for Luther.
2) Dubuque's 2006 season was a flash in the pan.
3) Cornell might finish as high as 8th in the league this season.
4) Central will never lose another conference game.
5) Coe got screwed.
6) Loras has a nice setting for the football field, but messed it up with soccer lines.
7) If Buena Vista could recruit worth squat they'd win the IIAC every year.
8: Simpson is known for hot coeds and a second tier football team.
9) Pat Coleman should run for President and Coco should be his running mate.

Heh, thanks. I turn 35 this December so I'm eligible for the first time. :)

Also, if you think that Neil working on the Wartburg coaches house this summer didn't have influence on his decision, and that they never talked to each other during this time, then I guess you were the first person in line to shake Barry Bonds hand.

All we get is the Wartburg spin in this chat room, therefore I don't post and this room is irrelevant.

Suckow and Suckow alone made his decision to transfer.  Instead of blaming him maybe your should think about blaming your head coach who ran your best player out of the program.
THIS IS...OUR HOUSE!  WHOSE HOUSE?!...OUR HOUSE!  WE RULE....OUR HOUSE!!

To put an end to the speculation, yes Neil Suckow worked for Steege Construction this summer who was doing some work on Koehler's house.
Did Koehler hire Steege Construction because Suckow worked for them? Heck no.
Can you imagine the outrage at Coe if Koehler even said something in jest to Neil about transferring over the summer. I know it didn't happen anyway but I don't think ANY coach that's smart enough to get a head job would approach another team's player about transferring.
Re-read this. If anything took place at the house it would have been because Neil initiated it. Koehler would have been absolutely thrown under the bus and black-balled by the IIAC coaches had he even suggested to a star player from another team transfer to Wartburg.
There's been plenty of Coe flavor on here in the past, but everyone seems to disappear. Last I checked, there's no prerequisite of being a Wartburg fan to post on here.
I'm well aware of the Marv Levy connection, but I think a player of "Fred's" (Seems that he doesn't go by Freddy anymore) caliber would of had a shot regardless of where he went to school"

Not to mention that it would have been tampering if Koehler had talked to him about it.

As for the Wartburg spin,I for one would welcome some input from the other camps. There is nothing wrong with some friendly rivalry. Everyone has the same opportunity to speak out.

I think Wartburg did what they needed to do to advance their program.  If Suckow hadn't been unhappy at Coe the door would have never been opened for Wartburg.  Just who pushed that door will probably never be known by anyone.  Obviously Suckow was opened to being courted and someone from Wartburg was receptive.  I have no love for Wartburg, Coe or Neil Suckow and don't care where Suckow plays football other than how it affects Central.
This is a great board and if it seems a little Wartbugcentric, that is a result of the passion their alumni and students feel for their program.

dutchfan1

Anyone ever visited the MIAC board? Non-Johnnie fans need not apply. This board isn't all THAT one-sided. Come on -- Wartburg alums aren't the only fans that post in here -- I can think of regular posters from each school.

Now, Warthog -- Central never losing another conference game? Now that is a topic I would like to explore! :)

sc_stormchaser

No need to discuss topic #8. Yes to both.

DutchFan2004

SC,

I agree that no need in discussing #8.  The wives of ours would shut down the board.  ;D

That and DF1 might take offense  ;D

I don't feel that the empire has taken over.  They are just hyped up a little and that is a good thing.  We should all be excited for the season to begin.  I think it is great wish there were more posters from all schools.

Warthog,
how sure are you about #4.  It would be fine with me if it happened.  ;D
