Just to throw something out there.  With the recent talk of soccer lines on fields and with todays athletes being bigger, stronger, faster.  Do you think it would improve the game if we made a football field as wide as a soccer field???

DoubleOT

I agree with Ash Park, Cornell will be winning more than just 2 this year. For what I have heard, they brought in a few freshman who will step on in, and do well...not to mention the commitment from the returners. I do hope Cornell can turn it around this year...atleast start to...

Depends if you are a fan of defense or offense. Personally, I think 52 yards or whatever it is is plenty wide.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I have no facts to back up the rates, but I heard the cheapest would be around $120/night. That's not bad in the larger city, but the other places in town are probably half that. Again, I could be way off on the rates.

Show- get this one...if I remember correctly, we stayed at the Super 8, then walked across the street to eat breakfast at the Carrollton. Ahhh, the stories I can tell about some of the places we had stayed. I could never figure it out...one week we would stay at a dumpy motel, the next week we were staying at the same hotel Michigan was at when they were in CR to play the Hawks. I have a picture of the huge "Welcome Michigan Wolverines" and just below their sign was the tiny "Welcome Simpson Football."

Yes, I have.  I like the wider field.  Don't like having just 3 downs.  Don't like the 55 yard line.  I like there is no fair catch rule.  I do like the 20 yard endzone but don't think you would ever see that here in the U.S.  But I do like the idea of 75 yards wide vs. 53 yards wide.

I'm fine with the way things are.  I know there are a lot of coaches on here and was curious what their thoughts and others on here were.

Plus, you know, this just proves not all conversation on here revolves around Wartburg.

After watching the CFL this summer on TV,I agree there are some things that I like and some that I don't. I like the wide open play and motion of the CFL and AFL,but I'm an offensive guy(really!).If I played defense I'd probably hate it.

WartTrainer- thanks for the heads up regarding the SC roster. I always enjoy looking at it during the pre-season. A couple of interesting things. The roster has roughly 20 non-Iowa kids. That has to be a record, at least since the 80s. When I played, we maybe had one or two out of state kids. Also, to bring up a topic discussed earlier this year, Coach Niemann and if he needs to have a stellar year to keep his job. Adding flames to the fire, it looks like Lounsberry's title is now Associate Head Coach.....interesting.

BTW, df1, let's try to find something other than our "rug" and SID to make fun of because you've been using that same song and dance for the past three years...get a little creative.  ;)

Speaking of our SID, his season preview was the first IIAC to be posted on D3football and the roster is already out. He does a nice job down in I-town. He just gets a bit defensive.

I can tell you from experience that Lounsberry is a tenacious recruiter, and is a hard man to say no to.He will build up Simpson's roster and if he becomes head coach the Storm will be hard to beat.

What is the problem with Coach Niemann?  I met got to know him a little bit a few years ago and thought he had a really good mind for defense. Not to play twenty questions, but was there resentment that Simpson didn't hire someone with ties to the school or Coach Williams?

WartTrainer

Footballdaddy - you arent kidding about Lounsberry being an agressive recruiter, he called my brother usually twice a week, he ended up saying yes and is down in in the land of the Storm.  I also was impressed with the fact that when I helped move my brother in this last weekend Lounsberry remembered my from when I went down with my brother for a visit.  He is a real nice guy and I see why people like him.

footballdaddy

In comparing Niemann and Lounsberry there is a big difference in personality. Lounsberry comes with credentials that you respect and a manner that makes even the parents want to pad up and play. Niemann, quite simply, does not.

Nieman is trying though, when I went down on that visit with my brother he came up to me and started talking to me like I was a recruit....I had to tell him I was there with my brother just checking things out.
