Another "newbie" to the board, although I have been reading all the posts for the past two years or so.  Looks like everyone is going to have to put up with another Wartburg fan.  But don't worry...if your team is playing against Luther, I will be cheering for them that week as well.

Coe scrimmages Platville this Saturday.
t_m_e,
Do you have a first hand account of this scrimmage?  Did it take place as scheduled?

First, welcome to the board Kohawk72 and, belatedly, to Mayne Event. It's nice to see Kohawk Nation better represented here.

As for the scrimmage, it was Friday night. (FieldTurf paid immediate benefits after all the recent rain.) I was there for only 90 minutes of what I hear was a 3 1/2 hour scrimmage, so I can't offer much of a report.

From what I saw, Coe has some work to do in all phases of the game. Then again, that's the purpose of scrimmages.

On offense: Tekippe wasn't sharp, and threw an INT on a screen pass that was returned 90+ for a TD. This isn't a concern. There is no doubt Andy will be in top form once the games count. It's evident Coe will miss Ashton Northern most of all. The new receiving corps shows great promise.

The punting game was awful, but it seemed to be an open tryout. I only saw the new kicker -- Rousa, I think -- attempt one FG (a short miss), but I know the coaches are high on him.

I still believe the defense will be dominant, even though it wasn't against Platteville. No one fills out a football uniform quite like Calvin Thomas. The sophomore linebacker is an impressive physical specimen. The IIAC will have its hands full dealing with Thomas and fellow sophomore Tate Harrison for the next three years. It was good to see Jordan Pinckney back on the d-line after a 1-year absence. He doesn't get all the stats, but makes everyone better by taking on two linemen.

Anybody want to try to predict who will be the rookie or newcomer of the year for the conference this year? I realize it is kind of difficult not knowing right now who everyone has brought in for transfers or freshmen. Of course Wartburg has Suckow but he has been in the conference for 3 years already. I guess it could also be based on a player who is their first year of being a starter as well.

How many series did Tekippe go? I was told he only went one or two series.

Welcome aboard, TheOne.  Although your name is a bit outdated now.

I didn't take notes, but it seemed he was in for at least three series while I was there, and I saw less than half of it. Returning transfer CJ Feller got a lot of work and will, presumably, back up Andy.

Sophomore WR Robert Welborn, a 6-5 210 newcomer for Coe who played basketball last year. You heard it here first.

I looked up the message board at d2football.com and they are talking that UIU should beat Loras by 30 and not give up anymore than 10 points.  Someone said it's a shame they scheduled a sure win against Loras instead of taking the money UNI could give them to play in the UNI-Dome.

In the pick em I took Upper Iowa to beat Loras but I sure would like to see Loras pull out the win against the Peacocks.  Either way I'm sure they could have some bulletin board material for the Duhawk players if they were to take a look at that board.

I wonder if I should make the 45 minute drive to Fayette this saturday to cheer on Loras.  I could probably make it back in time to see most of the Iowa game.
