Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Can't believe we're treating the Wartburg football roster like its the lost section of the Nixon Watergate tapes.  Although if it was up more than 47 hours before gametime, we probably wouldn't have.

2004's right about 92.1 in the Pella area.  I'll be doing sideline reporting for the majority of the Central games this season, but not on Saturday.

I'll have to tune in later this season to hear how a former SportsKnight co-anchor is doing in his new career.  I filled in for a local radio racing show this past summer...I forgot just how hard it is to be on-air, guess I've spent too much time in the controlroom.

Looks like another big roster for the Knights.  I counted 160 names on the list.  74 freshman who will get plenty of experience in the 6 JV games on the schedule.  I'm sure some will even see some Varsity time, and of course they get to go up against one of the best defenses or offenses in the IIAC (and in Division III) every week on scout team.  Should be another intimidating year for any team traveling to Waverly on Saturday to see so many black jerseys come running on to the field.

Let's not go overboard here. Wartburg needs to win a few more games before it can make that claim. None of the players on this roster have won a playoff game.

I wouldnt say its that intimidating...as a player your more focused on your job that standing looking around at all these people running around. I dont remember any of Wartburgs pregame stuff, I was more concerned on the job I had to get done in the next 60 minutes.

Stick around, you'll find out.

Take it easy on TheOne...He's just trying to give his successors on the scout team some pub.

Looks like most people on the board would agree Wartburg is one of the top teams in the conference...and they may have just snuck into the top 25, but number 25 out of the couple of hundred teams is pretty respectable.  Of course those are just numbers and rankings, now it needs to be shown on the field.

Right. The conference, yes. In Division III? No, not really.

Two-time IIAC MVP and the pride of Coe College Fred Jackson scored again tonight for the Buffalo Bills. This is from the postgame report on the Bills' Web site:

Running back Fred Jackson looks to have the inside track on the fourth running back spot with Marshawn Lynch, Anthony Thomas and fourth-round pick Dwayne Wright expected to make the roster. He was used on kickoff return and was the first back into the game after Lynch's night was over. Jackson finished the game with 18 yards on six carries including a five-yard touchdown run. (Although the box score I saw said 23 yards on nine carries and a 12-yard catch. He also returned three kicks for a 21-yard average with a long of 22 yards.)

I am always the first one to admit I was no 'Walston Hoover' during my time at Wartburg.  However, I would never trade my experiences playing college football for anything in the world.  I may have spent the majority of it on Scout team or the JV squad, but I was able to put those pads on everyday for another 4 years.  It was definitely worth it....isn't that what D3 football is all about?

I mean, couldn't you have at least got somebody from Iowa to write about Iowa football.

Feel free to recommend someone. We didn't get any good recommendations.

By the way, Keith is not from Iowa. :)

We would definitely love to have a local guy we can trust to give the IIAC the attention it deserves. That's not to say that guy doesn't exist, we just haven't found him yet. Doing so is definitely a priority. The conferences who have that guy (see MAC, WIAC, USAC, NCAC, etc., for examples, are really well done)

The way you guys have talked about the local media over the past few pages though doesn't give me a lot of faith that that recommendation is forthcoming.

Unfortunately, Kickoff is such a big project that it's not really wise to have Pat and I preview conferences anymore, even though we trust that the two of us will at worst make up for what we don't know by having detailed discussions with the coaches and basing the capsules on that.

More about Kickoff on the thread on General Football, Purple Heys.

Congrats to Freddy! Lets hope he represents the IIAC well!!

Not trying to be too hard on the one...just trying to keep him in perspective! Yes Wartburg is a quality football program with a good defense and offense...is Central and Coe as well...yes. Best in the nation? No, not with the recent teams. But hey, that is what makes D3 so great. So many people with so much passion for their teams. I love it!

Hey One,  don't seat it...Pride, even blind pride, is what being a fan is all about.

Now as I put my shameless plug out there for the Cornell Rams...I have a poser for you Wartburgers, Dutchies, Kohawkies.

Which team will have the most relative trouble with the Rams this year?

I did not say the Rams will win any of these games or even came close.  I'll save my actual picks for these games on the pick 'em board.

Last year I would say Coe "lost" this challenge.  We actually led that game for a time.  And had a call gone the other way, the 1st half would have been tighter.

Central was battled hard for a half, but that was in the rain and they dominated in the 2nd half.  Wartburg pretty much dropped the hammer on us all game long.
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.
