We are staying home this saturday and having a birthday party for our son.  It has a football theme and we will have games on tv going and we are planning on having a lot of tailgate type food.

Anybody out there have any special recipes for us we might use???

Super Nacho Dip
16 oz. sour cream
16 oz. cream cheese, softened
2 packets dry taco seasoning mix
Shredded cheddar cheese
Chopped lettuce
Sliced black olives
Chopped tomatoes
Chopped Onions

In a bowl, combine sour cream, cream cheese and taco seasoning. Mix, Spread mixture into large serving plate with raised edges. Sprinkle with the cheese and all other toppings. Serve with tortilla chips (the tostitos that are for dipping are great). Needs a couple hours to chill before serving.

Good Old Fashioned Beer Brats:

2 cans of Beer per package of Brats (the cheaper the beer, the better)
Onion Powder
Garlic Powder
Black Pepper
Salt
Chopped Onions

Combine all ingredients into a pot and boil brats until done.  Brown the brats on the grill and serve.  Classic tailgate food.  I don't know if the kids like brats, but it is a great way to cook them.  And don't worry about the beer...the kids can't get drunk from beer brats  :)

My wife gave the dip recipe to my sister to make.  And she is doing the brat recipe backwards.  Grilling them first and then soaking them in the beer.

Again, thanks for any and all recipes you come up with.

MNBeev,
I still think, that no matter how key the player, it is the depth around him. If there are other players that can take the load then it doesnt have as big of an impact. I will use Central as my example. Say they are completely healthy, that coaching staff will undoubtedly focus on Schuring, but they must also spend a lot of time on Connel, Huisman who have had a good first two games, not to mention their special teams and Defense which have a knack for finding the endzone:) However, take a team with one outstanding player who if you stop there is no way the other team will be able to throw/pass then it has a much larger aspect.

The great thing about football is that all 3 aspects of the game are equally important...defense, offense, special teams. If you are lacking in just one area as a team your not going to win tight games.

doolittledog: doing the brats that way is like marinating a steak after you cook it...it just doesn't work as well.  But it is your party, do it how you like...Hope you have a great weekend and a great party  :)

I also agree on the backups that need to fill a position, they should in college be able to be "just as" good but we all know sometimes that isn't the case and it does make a huge difference in who plays.  Central is a good enough team where they do have options and will win, other teams do not have that kind of team/players.

Like I said (look up) Central in your example is good enough for a guy like Schuring to be hurt and still come out on top.  Central, Like I said in my previous entry is good enough all around, and has players that can take the load off the team by stepping up.  Central is a good football team, no doubt, but other teams that don't have options, like you said, will struggle.  I totally agree with you that football is a game of all 3 aspects.  Just as in golf, you can drive the ball a mile chip within 4 foot of the hole, but if you can't putt you're screwed...And you helped me out a ton when you said if you take one player out of the game, (by stopping him) or in my example if the "studs" are out (injured, ineligible) the other team will not be able to play at thier highest potential, as a team.

Anyway, i must have been confused with what you were asking.

My opinion on Central is that I don't care who is backing up Schuring.  If you take the 2 time Iowa Conference MVP off of that team, they are more vulnerable to losing to a team that they shouldn't lose to.  Now, do I think Luther is going to win is Vnace doesn't play....No.  But, I think that him being out improves the Norse's  chances exponentially.

MNbeev

I like the words that you speak.  Luther's chances of winning are higher, and central chances are losing are higher, but it won't happen...

Wow, I need something to do during work...
