Iowa had beat ISU 3 of the last 4 years coming into this game.  Hardly a case of can't figure out how to beat them.

So Central is up on Luther and Wartburg big over BV.  Any other scores out there???

Good deal, I went 4-0 this week in my picks.

Thanks for the updates.

And if we go back just a bit further, the Hawks have dropped 6 of the last 9...typically as heavy favorites.  I think its safe to say there is more talent is on the black and gold side.  Maybe a more accurate statement would be for Iowa to figure out how to play to their potential against ISU.

Either way its not been a great football Saturday for me.  The Hawkeyes and the Beavers were both on the wrong side of the score.  Luckily the Tigers from Spencer won big over MOC-FV.  Hopefully the Bears can bounce back against another all-star RB/TE duo in KC after losing to the Chargers last week and bring me back to .500 for the week.

What was the final score of the BV / WB game?

30-20 Loras over Cornell...so frickin' close to that IIAC win.

Loras lives a charmed life.  Cornell moves up and down the field all day.  Loras to their credit moved the ball well as well.

An INT on an ill-advised throw goes for a TD and another gift INT when the receiver slips on an on-the money throw at the Loras 5.  Cornell also missed a GOLDEN opportunity to tack on a TD late in the 1st half when Cornell TE was overthrown near the goal line...he could've skipped in.

Cornell led 20-15 after 3.  Loras was sweatin' bullets and whining for every call on the sideline until the game was in hand.  I was there and I heard 'em whining first hand.

Loras running back McGrew had a great game, ran hard all day.  He was the difference maker in the game for Loras.  Game clincher came when Loras TE caught a ball in traffic...after dropping 2 earlier in the game.

Cornell WILL win an IIAC game this year.  Or three.

I have to disagree with you on this one.  3 wins is a stretch, a big one.  Sorry Ram fans, ONE conference win at most for the rams this year, and that is also a stretch against Simpson.

And one have the final on the BV - Wartburg game?
I know they took a beating today, it was 38-0 at sometime in the 3rd...

I hear you, but you lack 1st hand experience on watching the game the Rams played today.  They moved with impunity for the most part.  Again, to Loras' credit, they did what they needed to do and capitalized...hats off them.  But, in my opinion, this was Cornell's game to win...or lose.  They had their way with Loras' D.  Cornell's D work their collective a$es off but Mr. McGrew had a great game.

Loras supposedly was credentialed having beaten St. Thomas and taking the Peacocks to the mat.

Loras was not the better team...it was at best a toss up, with TO's being the determining factor.   IF Cornell takes better care of the ball, AND capitalizes on an opportunity in the first half and Loras is 0-1.  These are attainable, correctable issues.

There was also a TD saving play when Cornell's Freshman QB stepped in for series and was a lunging tackle from a 55+ yard scramble for a TD.  Loras was on the edge of defeat all day.  They did not act on the sideline like a team that was in control of the game.  I was there.

The Rams didn't protect the ball and didn't capitalize and That, however, is why the Rams are 0-1.  They will kick the (expletive deleted) out of Luther in two weeks.  I think Cornell beats Simpson.  Your Beavers are at risk as are the Kohawks.  Your BVD will be a challlenge.  I think the Kohawks are overrated.

My opinion.

And with all due respect, you are entitled to yours...

I was also in MT. Vernon this weekend and just wanted to toss in my two cents.  First off helluva a hard fought game for both sides.  First off, the Rams will have a hard time winning a conference game if they don't protect the ball as was the difference today.  The Loras D didn't really come to play but they got it done.  Brock Hall picked off a pass and took it 35 yds. to the house and that took the wind out of the Cornell sail.

Taking nothing away from Loras but in the past they haven't had the greatest rushing attack and they ran all over Cornell.  The Loras rb's saw many plays where they weren't touched until they reached the Cornell LB's who also miss many tackles which led to the big runs for Loras.

You talk about how how Loras beat St. Thomas and played UIU.  I honestly think this was the difference maker as Cornell decided to go with two weak non-conference teams and just didn't look ready to play when the game was close late in the second half.

Just my two cents, both teams worked their backsides off.  Great way to start off Iowa Conference play!

I was in attendence today at the Loras-Cornell Clash

This is not the Cornell team everyone is used to- they have weapons on the field, the wing t was looking good today.

As far as the whining on the Loras side, it was equaled by the whining on the Cornell side as well. I was there, I heard it.

I think Cornell not going for the easy 3 at the end of the half was a mistake.

Without a doubt, I agree with Purple Heys, the Rams will win a few ball games  in the IIAC this year.

Congrats Loras on the win and keep it going

just read the re-cap on the WB game thanks to their great SID

pretty impressive numbers for the knights- 9 sacks, gave up 12 yds rushing(9 sacks will do that for you) and held them to 207 total yds in a nice shutout..

led 10-0 @ half before scoring 28 in 3rd qtr..  Hoerner another huge game 4-94..  vanRees 12-114

sounds like the knights may have their hands full in Decorah next week with the game they gave Central today..sounds like Sherden had a big game.. what was that noise about him being injured earlier in the year?  tried to see the boxscore from the game, but they don't have a thing about it on their site..

i'm perplexed by the hawks & clones- have now lost 7 of 10- yet ISU wins today after getting  whupped by UNI last week and losing  to a bad Kent St. Team..  they will go on to win 2 conference games at best in Big 12.  their season seems to revolve around this game and iowa needs to quit underestimating them and looking ahead..
it was evident the hawks came out flat with the 60 yds of total offense they had in 1st half.. no way they should have lost 7 of past 10.  :-[ Ferentz is getting paid way too damn much to get domintated by ISU

if tony yelk is kicking today, hawks win 13-6  ;D

Good news...Iowa still hasn't given up a Touchdown this year....Bad news Iowa State figured out how to kick field goals....Iowa choaked one away a few years ago and things turned out ok.  GO HAWKS!! could we worse we could be Michigan or even worse Notre Dame.

Real reason of the post.....

I know it is really really early but Tim Connell put on an MVP performace in Pella today....Luther did a great job getting their defense in the backfield and getting shots on him but he had answers to most everything they could throw at him.  End of the first half and all of the second quarter he had a hard time even running on the field let alone being a running quarterback.  4 TD's 300 yards with little running game and a hard time keeping Luther out of the endzone.  Ya it is Luther but he did the same to Hope a week ago and they were a playoff team from a year ago.  22-3 as a starter.  Completing 70% of his passes.  He is getting out of the shadows of Vance and delivering when given a chance....Would be nice to have Vance the whole game sometime this year....Maybe Wartburg.....GO DUTCH!!!

Lets see UNI over ISU, ISU over Iowa = UNI "mythical state champions" in football!

RE: Cornell Kicking Luther ars in the future?  Not gonna happen.  The Norse have a quality offense, the right side o f their O-line is excellent.  .  Connell had a huge game congrats to him, good decisions, ran well, threw well, don' t know about MVP year, but he's carrying the Dutch O right now.  Also HUGE game for Huisman, not only great catch in the end zone, but downed two punts at the 1.  It'll be  a great year in the IIAC.

If you want to talk about MVP candidates, here's a plug for Tommy Breitbach. The kid is dynamite! 105 receiving yards today and two spectacular touchdowns, one on a fourth down when he somehow managed to emerge from a crowd and another when he went high into the air to out leap the defender for the ball. Also, a 40-yard kick return and nine tackles, including three for a loss.

As for the Coe-Simpson game, the Storm won nearly every offensive category but two -- turnovers and the score. I don't think that's a coincidence. Coe's defense is good enough to keep them in every game, so long as the offense doesn't turn the ball over. They haven't had an interception or lost a fumble yet this year. It may not be pretty, but a W is a W.
